Do you find alcohol calories impede weight loss?

ANSWERED

OK, I've heard alcohol intake stops fat loss but if "calories are calories", and you stay within your daily intake goal, shouldn't you still lose weight?  I'm no alcoholic, but I do enjoy a nice glass of wine now & then. What is everyone else's experience?

I also enjoy wine. I have found that it has not stopped weight lost. I have had 4 glasses of wine in a week and I still lost weight. I believe our bodies react differently to alcohol and you should monitor your weight and see how it affects you personally.

Think the fitbit includes your calories you burn just tiching over, so sounds about right.

Your body and your liver process alcohol and sugar the same way, so I would say they affect weight loss the same way. You can eat sugar in moderation, and still lose weight. The same would be true for alcohol.

"Of course of life's minor pleasures -- yummy deserts and liqour -- aren't positively correlated with weight loss," she says as.she sips on a Negroni.

Thank you. I agree as long as you control the alcohol.

Alcohol is made up of a lot of sugar, therefor instead of using up fat during the day your body will use the sugar first and leave the fat...behind!!

i've lost ten pounds since january, and the only adjustment i made to my alcohol intake was cutting out beer and wine. i switched over to just drinking vodka with either coconut water or seltzer, and i'd normally have six drinks or more the nights i drink. occasionally, i would drink beer or wine, but i faithfully entered all my drinks into my food log and i've been fine.

i also tend to not eat when i'm drinking, so that also has an effect.

If you're exercising enough and exercising hard (running, fast walking, weight training etc), you're going to burn alot of calories, even vodka, tequila or bourbon. If you don't burn enough calories alcohol will affect your weight loss. I've lost 80 pounds in one year and now struggling to eat/drink enough calories to maintain.

I believe in everything in moderation. If you count all the calories from your drinks and just have alcohol on occassion, I don't think that it would be any worse for you than an occassional sweet.

I've had drink occassionally since I got my Fitbit and have had no problem losing weight. I just treat it like a candy bar and make sure that I eat healthy food most of the time and count all my calories. I also try to make sure that if I know that I'm going to drink some alcohol one day, that I don't find an excuse to not get my workout in that day.
