Sure.
I'd have huge calorie burns on a bike ride over the weekend - and could not eat the whole amount that day to keep a reasonable deficit.
Keep a weekly balance, your body doesn't know midnight.
For some workouts - the repair & recovery happens over next 24 to 48 hrs anyway when it would like more nutrients - so works well to eat the next day more when you might be hungry.
Now - if dinner was light on protein, and the workout was intense like lifting - there is a benefit to getting some protein in before bed, since the body will attempt to do some repair while you sleep.
