Weigh in day for me, I was happy to go down 1 pound. The weather has been nicer so I can walk more often without having to go to the gym. My steps each day have been higher this week, and I hope to just keep increasing. I have been having more problems with my back lately, im not sure if it's related to my increased activity or what. Today was also my day to measure myself, which I do once a month. I was very happy to see my arms and legs continuing to get smaller, but I didn't see as much change in the middle part of the body. :-(. But I'll just keep working on it. Weight loss is a slow process for me, for various reasons. I hope everyone has a good week!

Way to go, @RunnersHi! Losing 45 lbs in five months is remarkable, and I know that you feel so much better, not only physically, but in other ways, too. I joined Fitbit on Jan.7, and today I have reached 30 lbs weight loss. It is so encouraging, is it not?

Keep it up. friend!

Hello, Everyone! I missed my report for week 3. I did not have much to brag about then. I have reached a plaeau and was a bit discouraged. Thankfully, today I had a break through. So, here is my report for week 4:

USW- Ultimate Starting Weight - 183.5 (1/7/16)

CSW- Current Starting Weight - 159.5 (3/26/16)

PW- Previous Weight - 156.6 (4/17/16)

CW- Current Weight - 153.6 (4/25/16).

GW- Goal Weight - 149.5 (by 5/12/16)

UGW- Ultimate Goal Weight: 135-145 lbs, not sure (I will assess that when I reach 145 lbs).

Total loss for this challenge is 6 lbs.

Today, I officially celebrate 30 pounds (13.6 Kg) loss since I joined the Fitbit community on Jan. 07, 2016. I have 18 more pounds to go in order to reach my perfect weight. Better yet, with occasional exceptions, my morning blood sugar is within the normal range (under 100).

The only downside to this is the hanging skin on my inner upper arms. So, I started to work on some muscle groups. However, if some of you have any ideas how to best work on these problem areas, I would greatly appreciate it.

It is so great to read about the progress you have all made. What an inspiration you all are. Let's keep it up, everyone, and God bless!

I've been so unsure of my ultimate goal weight, first it was 175, then it was 160 then it was 140 now I have it back up to 160 (ish). I've lost 75 pounds and 14 clothing sizes.

Going off the BMI standard chart I should be 140's but realistically for my large frame 160's is in the desirable range. My legs aren't going anywhere, my hips aren't either. I'm 165 now and I'm happy, I've been bouncing around mid 160's for a few weeks and it seems like this is my end point. No, I'm not giving up but my goal was to be a size 8. I'm down to a size 6 and medium to small dresses and shirts. With that being said, I think I'm done focusing on weight loss and rather focusing on toning my body. The muscle I see coming through and the inches I'm losing although the scale isn't moving leads me to believe that I'm at a healthy weight for my body type. This weight is also what I weighed in high school at the peak of my body physique. My doctor has expressed that she feels I've accomplished enough and that I'm fit and healthy as can be. If I want more to do more but she sees me as completely healthy.

I'm struggling to stop relying on a scale and focus on what my body is telling me.

Hi. @dianenyc! It was great to read your recent report, and admire your restraint in the face of great food. Ordering baked eggplant was a great idea. Eggplant is very low on calories, and yet, it is very nutritious. I cook that at home occasionally.

I have been going through a plateau lately, as well. Today, my scale has finally moved down, and I am greatly encouraged. I started going to the rec center with my husband, trying to work on some muscle groups (just went there twice, last week). I experienced some muscle pain after each session, but that should be a good sign. I hope the pain part will be replaced by some muscles on my inner arms and abdominal area.

Keep it up, my friend! Blessings and strength!

@OCDOC, Thanks for sharing this. Like you, I would have never thought that I will loose as much as I did in the last three and a half months. These short term challenges have taken me from one stage to another (10 lbs. per challenge). Yesterday, I just broke off a tow week plateau, and I received my 30 pound loss badge. That is since January 7, when I joined the fitbit community and the Valentine Challenge.

My husband is impressed with my progress and started to go to the Rec Center, but is not ready for the fitbit experience... yet. I am glad to hear that your wife joined you. Your journey in this, together, will make this experience even more pleasant.

Congratulations on your accomplishments and health progress!

Best wishes to you, both!

Hi, @scottie0714. I was just about to ask the same question a couple of days ago: how do you break a plateau? This challenge has been much slower for me than the previous two, but April 10 - 23 has been extremely slow, in spite of the fact that I walked more and just started going with my husband to the Rec center to work on some muscle groups. Apart from muscular aches and low energy, there was not much change on the scale... On the contrary, my numbers kept going up and down, with no real progress on the down side. It was frustrating, and I felt that my internal organs were heavy.

I did not do anything different in the area of exercise. On the contrary, I tried to rest and just take care of myself. I made a big bowl of salad and put it into an air tight container, to last me for a few days (half of my daily meals are always salad, without dressing). My salads usually include some or most of the following: lettuce, spinach, kale, parsley, green onion, celery, and carrots. When I serve it, I can eat it as is, or add some walnuts, a hard boiled egg, chicken stripes, raisins, dried cranberries, or some cherry tomatoes (salad keeps me full and gives me the healthy, low calorie, nutrients and fiber that my body needs). I log any of the above additions to the salad separately, to ensure a good record of my calorie intake (I always log my food).

But, a couple of nights ago, because I was feeling so heavy inside, I decided to have two cups of Super Dieter's Tea (I use that optionally for internal cleansing). That did the trick for me. Next morning (yesterday), the scale went down a couple of pounds, and I felt light and energetic again. This morning, another half a pound came off.

Here's the tea that I've used for years for internal cleansing, if anyone's interested (can be found at WalMart for about $9.41):

"Intermittent Fasting" is a voodoo-sounding term, and should just be called "Eat when hungry" Smiley Happy.

Hi, @scottie0714. Thanks for asking that, & @OCDOC, thanks for clarifying. "Eat when hungry" is a great advise! One thing that I've learned from a book I was reading on nutrition and healthy lifestyle is to discern "true hunger" from "false hunger". The "true hunger," the author says, is felt somewhere in the area of our throat. The "false hunger" (caused by anxiety or emotional stress) is felt in the gut area. When I experience the second, instead of eating, I have a grass of water or a few walnuts.

I also noticed that, when I eat raw foods (salads), which are full of healthy micro-nutrients and fiber and low on calories, I never experience false hunger. It is only when I eat starchy foods (even oats, which are good for us!) that I feel the need to eat more often, even though my stomach is still full. Learning to listen to my body and discern these things has helped me monitor my eating habits.

@Bogdel

I agree, I tried the whole intermittent fasting and while it was okay the first few days, there is no way I could keep up. I'd much rather each when I'm hungry and choose healthy and wholesome options than only allow myself to eat a certain period of the day.

"I'd much rather eat when I'm hungry and choose healthy and wholesome options."

I totally agree! "Eat when hungry", and being sure that it is "healthy and wholesome" is the best way to go, if we want to build a healthy life style that we can enjoy for the rest of our lives. From my reading on nutrition and reversing pre-diabetes (my problem last year!), the greener the food, the healthier it is. My sugar lately has been within the normal range (80-100), which is huge for me!

I just had a bowel of salad (I never use dressing) for breakfast. It tasted so good, and I feel so full.

I'll have some fish with pees and corn on the side in the afternoon.

So I skipped last weeks weigh-in. I was bloated...for girly reasons 🙂

I'm a bit bummed that the drop in weight isn't more significant but I haven't been as diligent about logging foods. Several times over the last week I've eaten out or had birthday snacks at work. It's hard to log what you didn't make! I'm hoping next week's weigh-in will be better!

One exciting thing I noticed was that my runs are getting easier and easier to do! This past week I also added in weight training, so I'm excited to see how this will improve my fitness journey!

Wow @Bogdel!  Thank you so much for the nice comments; I really appreciate that.

Well, here's my weekly check in.  It's late because I didn't want to report the gain that was showing up and I'm at least back to last week's report now.  So this week I'm greatful for a plateau because it sure beats a gain! 😉  I've upped my steps and thought I've been doing well on diet too, so it's disconcerting, but I did have several restaurant meals and may be I'm underestimating the calorie count.  Will try to do better.

@HelenKr, You broke the 150 lbs threshold! How exiting! That is my goal at the end of this challenge (149.5 lbs)! I have 3.6 more pounds to go. I know the feeling you were sharing. I went through it last week (didn't want to share the extra pounds that were showing up on my scale lol. I know that much of it is probably water or waist, but still... ).

Keep it up, friend! Best wishes to you!
