Easter to Memorial Day Challenge 2016

Welcome to the next challenge!!!

Our challenge starts Easter March 27th through Memorial Day May 30th. (USA holiday)

To be part of the challenge you start by posting your initial weight stats and what you would like to achieve by the end of the challenge. You can then check in as often as you'd like with a weight update, to share a story from your week or start a conversation about a topic you'd like some advice on.

Welcome to all our new members, old timers, and anyone who is just following our challenge! Let's continue to work hard, meet our goals, and most important, give each other the encouragement and positive thoughts to keep all our spirits up!

Thanks to @saraj91 for the last challenge! Hope to see you again in here 🙂

A little rundown of terminology for anyone who is new:

USW- Ultimate Starting Weight

CSW- Current Starting Weight

GW- Goal Weight

UGW- Ultimate Goal Weight

@RubyH -  I am short too (5'2").  You are much farther along in weight loss, but I'm working on getting there.  I love your tagline!  Good luck to you!

Best Answer

@Bogdel Yes I am determined to stay on track & hopefully the scales will catch up soon! Just have to keep reminding myself of the progress I've made already. Checking in with the group has been a great motivator, reading all the brilliant updates & advice has been so helpful.

Thank you so much for your kind words, the brilliant bunch of people in this group (yourself included of course) have provided me with much encouragement & support, wouldn't have got to where I am without this I don't think.

Hi, @Lathandria! Welcome aboard, and congratulations on your new fitbit. I am glad to hear that you already feel "addicted" to it. This is a great addiction to have, as we seek to replace our addiction to the wrong kinds/amounts of food and lack of activity. I joined this group on January 7, 2016, and I lost 30 pounds (14 Kg) since then. I can't tell you how exited I am about it! I trust that you will find this as rewarding and fun as most of us did in this group.

Try to become familiar with this app and get the most of it. One of the most helpful tools for me, apart from this group challenge, has been logging my calorie intake. Fitbit always tells me when I reach my caloric in-take for the day, or when I need to burn a few because I went overboard on food (smiling).

Have fun, and let us know how you are doing.

Best wishes to you!

Hi Guys,

Okay, I am thoroughly confused.  Got on the scale this morning it read 163.4 -- arrrgh!!! So I'm going to get my haircut so I decide to report my stats when I get back.  I walk home from my haircut -- long enough to get me to almost 12,000 steps so far today.  I decide to get back on the scale and I now weigh 160.4.  That's the number I'm reporting:

USW 184
CSW 166
GW 160
CW 160.4
UGW 150 (subject to downward revision)

I have accounted for the usual effect of morning coffee (that was before my a.m. weigh in) -- but I'm thunderstruck that my weight could fluctuate three pounds in the course of a few hours -- though I will happily take the loss.  Any thoughts?

Hope this finds everybody well and happy.

@dianenyc I attribute it to your hair being made of flaxen gold..that stuff weighs a lot!  The low number is the real one 🙂

I have been watching but not posting. It's been too depressing because I can't seem to get myself coordinated. When I exercise, I don't eat well; and vice versa. But, my extra weight is really starting to inhibit me... and hurt my hips. So, I'm going to stop "watching" the discussion and start holding myself accountable... so here goes.

USW - 165 June 2013
Partial goal attained - 145 Nov 2013
Stress period led to New SW - 167 Jan 2016
CW - 167
GW - 159
UGW - 139

Aiming to hit 10000 steps everyday and log every day.

@ca-north Welcome and good luck to you!  I was feeling very inhibited by my weight too, didn't even want to get on a scale. This is a great group and they'll provide support along the way.  Hang in there, you can do it!

Thx HelenKr!

@dianenyc - sometimes my scale does funny things too.  Maybe the battery is getting low.

I hope your hair cut went well!  🙂

So about the scale thing...yes i have seen fluctuations -usually related to water retention. I also have a scale that varies sometimes. I was thinking about replacing it when i hit Onederland as a reward. Who likes their scale and what model is it?

Easter Weight - 353

Week 1 - 351

Week 2 - 348

Week 3 -  348  (I came in at 346 day after weigh in due to massive sodium intake prior to weigh in)

Week 4 - 344

Week 5 - 340

Memorial Goal  - 333

-4 lb (13 lbs total)

When I started back in March, tying my shoes was a painful process. The act of bending over would trigger some type of abdominal spasm. As a result of this, when I bought my last pair of running shoes at a try on yourself store, I skipped trying them on due to not wanting to trigger the spasm in public. And of course the last pair of shoes I got were a terrible fit due to not trying them on. Now I can lace shoes up without triggering the spasm which I am happy about. Also those 4XL walmart shirts that shrunk on me in the dryer are starting to fit a little better now.

I read every single post on this challenge board and wanted to thank everyone for making such a great community. Good luck out there!

I use a weightwatcher scale and also the fitbit Aria.

Both work well, but I find the secret is to avoid moving either of them, they both read identical if they are on the same suface not moved.

I still use both at the same time each mornng, prior to any food or drinks.

This seems to work best.

The Aria look nice and they sync with the fitbit app well, with weight and time sent wirelessly.

Bit pricey, but I am really pleased with both the Aria, and Surge. - Saved a fortune in wine & beers, looking forward to 35lb badge in the next day or so.

Hope that this helps

Sharing the results of an 'interesting' experiment. Over the years, I noticed that whenever I started eating 'properly' after a period of binging, I would lose a ton within days..presumed water and wastage. Can it happen 'in reverse'?

Yesterday, to 'celebrate' 4 months of successes on these challenges, I gave myself a 4 hour window to binge like crazy...no booze...just eat anything and everything from 7pm to 11pm..gorged...I ate past satiety. Then I slept.

Result this am?.. +5 pounds!! Eating in 4 hour window with 12 hours sleep! Yikes. This sure explains the 1-2 pound bumps after even a less gluttonous evening.

Naturally I don't believe I manufactured 5 pounds of fat in 12 hours, but needless to say I hope it drops off as fast as it came on 🙂 Will see where I am for this week's weigh-in later this week.  Rob

Hi, @ca-north! Congratulations on taking a step further and becoming both active and interactive with this group. Unless you have already done so, I highly recommend that, in addition to walking 10,000 steps, you also enter your weight goal and log your calorie in-take, being sure that those are "good calories" (from greens, beans, and seeds), rather than empty cals from flower and sugary products. Keeping a log and staying withing the recommended calrie deficit has helped me immensely (I lost 30 lbs. since January).

Best wishes.
