Howdy, @dancefoxtrot & @Cele21 !
I was in there with you. I'm about ready to get back in here. I'm bouncing up & down 5 pounds above where I was. Too much Comfort Food too often. I just can't cope with doing it yet. But I'm happy to know that I have Friends already in here for when I can handle it!

Can't cope anyway so might as well come back in and see if I can succeed again.

UGW- 145
145 would still have me in the BMI Overweight Category. But my Nutritionist would hit the Roof if I aimed for the Normal Category (131). She won't be happy with 145. She says that the Chart is not correct for Seniors (I''m 68) and that I appear healthy now.
@dancefoxtrot I took up Dancing after I left last time. I was going to Ballroom Dancing w/ 1/2 Hour Lesson over in Vancouver (Washington) every Saturday Night. But my Workload has increased to 60-70 Hours a Week and I just can't do the 1.5 Hour Round trip Drive right now.
However, I do go Square Dancing every Sunday Night. And I took up League Bowling every Tuesday Afternoon. These are my 2 best Stepping Days since I get in more Steps when I'm not actively participating. The rest of the time, I have to fit my Steps into my Work Schedule. I do get a lot of Steps in on Wednesdays since I'm in a GD that has been going on every Wednesday for over 2 Years now. But I suffer the next few Days since I put everything I can on the Back Burner.
I do have a Gym Membership through Fit & Silver (Medicare Benefit my Insurance Company offers) but I don't go very often. Don't like the Treadmill. It's just for really desperate times.
Here's hoping I will motivate to post!!! It will be on Sundays if'n I do.

Hi all,
I'm back after a long time away, too.
I've missed this group - the support, ideas, accountability. Hope everyone is doing well.
Time to re-focus on health.
My goal for this round:
stay focused!
I need to move a whole lot more and snack a whole lot less; and get into better habits and routines.
I'll be happy if the weight just edges down a bit after being stuck for so long.

Wonderful to see you here again. Weight is not dropping yet but I am being more aware and moving more on most days. 6500 steps so far.
Goal is to not eat after 8 pm so I'm eating a bowl of vegetable barley soup that I added califlower to.
I like your goal of moving more and snacking less.
We can do this. We have done it before.
Stay strong everyone,
Barbara

Isn't dancing wonderful and square dancing is a sure aerobic. I'm not a nutritionist but the idea that once you hit 65 you should be in the overweight BMI category to be healthy sounds wrong. All the nutrition and health advocates that I follow do not agree. I'm 5'7" and still have tummy fat when I get down to 145. I would go by is it fat or muscle that you are losing. At almost 78 y o I certainly wouldn't harm myself by aiming for the over weight BMI rating at all. I'm in the healthy weight at 153 with a BMI of 24. I need to get down to 140 and keep my muscles in tact. Some people have weird ideas about older adults.
Enjoy the process.

Great. Let's snack less and move more.
Trying hard to stay focus on the goal to lose the extra tummy fat.
We can do it together,

Sorry about your tooth. Hope that you are not in pain. Keeping your BP in normal range is super important. Weight loss can cause less need to take as much medication so that is a great goal.
Sounds like you really are working out.
All the best,
Barbara

Her concern is not with the Weight Numbers but with the Fat Numbers. She says that the Weight depends too much on other Facts. Especially Muscle, which weighs more, vs Fat which weighs less but, as we all know all too well, makes its presence known all too visibly.
She wants me to get my Meals better balanced, to work on the Fat Percentage. And to increase the Muscle. Especially in my Upper Body.
I have one of those Scales which measures Weight, Fat, Water, Muscle, & Bone Mass. Haven't used it much the past Year. Mostly just before my Appointments with her. And then the Batteries died.
To be honest, she was a little flabbergasted when she met me the first time. First, I was out in the Hall getting my Steps in while waiting for my Appointment. Secondly, she's just not used to having new Clients who aren't there to get help losing weight. I'm seeing her because my Doctor wanted me to get "expert" help since my Labs aren't where they should be. Things like Vitamin D and Bone Mass have been too low.
I hope to be as healthy as you are, @dancefoxtrot when I add the 10 Years you have on me. I'm almost the Spring Chicken in my Square Dance Group! A few of the other Dancers are old enough to have been my Parents! And one of those Couples not only does the Square Dancing but they do the Round Dancing as well!!

How cool round dance as well with older adults doing it. Great. Sounds like good goals to elevate your Vit D and bone density. I love your getting steps while you waited for appt.. Muscle tissue burn 8 times more calories than the rest of us so building muscle is a smart way to burn excess body fat.
I have a scale that allegedly tells me how much fat water and muscle % but this is what I found about my scale. If I enter my age as 30, 50, 70 or 77 I get radically different results in the percentages. As we age it seems that this dumb scale is programmed to make me weaker and fatter on the very same day just a minute apart because I changed my age. Try it. It is not accurately perceiving these darn percentages. Seems dishonest to me. I think it says I'm 41% fat when I put in my 77 years. No way is that accurate if my BMI is 23.9 at my current weight.
152.4 this morning so back where I started a week ago. 4123 steps so far and more water to drink so I don't snack tonight.
Stay strong.

So nice to see so many "old" friends, and new ones too.
Taking stock of where I am...yuck!
I've gotten off track with sitting and working too many hours and just grabbing easy food.
So, goals right now:
get up to 5 glasses of water daily
start cooking again
move move move
Right now I am off to a good supermarket. Went through two new cookbooks of vegetarian dishes and made a list of ingredients.
Hope everyone is on track today.

dancefoxtrot - I remember when you lost the weight before. You were amazing! Such determination, and you totally inspired everyone. If I recall, you had several injuries, including a car accident, and that sidetracked you. How wonderful that you are getting back on it!
What you posted about the scale - that is just horrid! Return it, complain to them. The assumptions made about women and aging...ugh.

Great goals especially the move move move one and the healthy food that you are making for yourself. I'm so glad that you are back since you are so supportive and I know we can do this together!
The stupid scale is programmed that way instead of somehow knowing our water, fat and muscle my some electronic magic.
I have been eating less but my weight is bouncing from 153 to 152 almost every other day. If I stop munching on so many nuts at night I'm sure the lbs. will leave more quickly. Only 3872 steps tonight so I will march around as I watch the news to get it up to 4500 or so.
Eat Madras lentils, beans and red rice and steamed broccoli for dinner so far.
Okay I better get up and move as I listen to the depressing news.
My art classes are fun although sedentary.
We can get healthier and stronger together.

I'll try that on my Scale when I weigh tomorrow, @dancefoxtrot. I'll try 34, 1/2 of my Actual Age and see what it says. I'll let you know when I report in tomorrow.

Well, @dancefoxtrot you were right! My Fat, Muscle, Water, and Bone Mass are all much better at Age 30 than at Age 68!
Going by the American Council on Exercise's Chart for Fat, I'm an Athletic 30 Year Old or an Average 68 Year Old. Going by the Surpahs Chart, I'm Normal at 68 and Low at 30. (That's my Scale and they reference the University of Illinois Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition for the Chart.)
And I have almost 50% more Bone Mass!?!?! Sheesh!
THANK YOU!

Slipped last Wednesday climbing down an Embankment and rolled. Nothing damaged but I'm still aching and not able to walk fast or a lot. My 7 Day Average has gone from 23,690 last Tuesday to 19,065 Today. And I've gone down my Friends' List from 6th to 16th. Depressing if I allow it but I know that I'll be back in form before too long and will fight my way back up that dern List, so I'm able to withstand the temptation to have a Pity Party!!!
Bottom Line Excuse for my Gain is that I'm still eating at Tuesday's 2,366 Activity Calories Burned when I only burned 1,022 Yesterday! Not good for the Weight Loss!!!
I'm not going to be able to Square Dance Tonight. My Right Arm is still aching bad and my Good Knee is still sending sharp jabs of pain when I'm starting down the Stairs at Work. Better to skip tonight and continue to heal so that I can Bowl on Tuesday!

That's more than a small victory, @Eljuanito ! If you're replacing Fat with Muscle, you'll gain weight but lose inches! AND you'll be more Fit!!

There really should be rehab for sugar addicts. I had gotten back into it, eating junk mindlessly while I worked. So far it's been two days with none - usually by day 4 I have a hard time. I'm hoping to have some time to cook enough food today for most of the week, including hearty soups. Need to have more filling things on hand so I don't just grab junk.
Also trying to organize papers - ugh! Losing clutter and weight at the same time..I wonder if I'm taking on too much.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
