So my weightloss journey started about a year ago, and after losing 30 pounds I've been in maintenance mode for about 6 months.
About a month ago I decided to try eliminating dairy from my diet (I took out milk from my morning cereal, cheese, and yogurt), and the only substitution I made was almond milk to my cereal. The odd thing is, I've actually gained about 5 pounds, which really surprised me.
Has anyone else had this experience, or knows why this would happen? (The almond milk only has 7 grams of sugar in a cup, so I don't believe that's the cause).

I would check my calorie logs for the time in question and see what else has changed over that time. Apparently you've made some other swaps you aren't noticing right off the bat. If you aren't having cheese in a sandwich maybe you have subbed some higher calorie option in your lunch, that sort of thing.

About 8 years ago I had to stop eating dairy - my body lost its ability to process the stuff. At the same time I decided to stop eating meat. I found it was easier to order vegan meals than constantly try to find out if a meat dish contained a lot of cream or butter. I actually worried that a vegan diet would mean weight would fall off at an unhealthy rate. I too initially gained weight. In my case I assumed it was down to my body processing a non-dairy based diet much more efficiently than my previous dairy laden meals.

The same thing is happening to me right now and the weight gain is fast. I wonder if the diary was preventing some absorption and without it I’m absorbing more? I have probably cut about 800 calories of daily milk and cheese out of my daily diet. Eat an apple, orange and half a banana instead and a few more nuts.
