Getting fit at work?

ANSWERED

I am going back to work on Monday and I dread it because I have such a hard time find time to  walk.

Does anyone have a similar situation? Can you offer any advice?

I make myself get away from the computer. I work at a desk job where we can take up to 2 fifteen minute breaks and 1 one hour lunch. I force myself to get away from the computer and walk around the building (either outside doing laps in the parking lot or inside by climbing up/down the stairs), and I spent half my lunch exercising around the building at home. That helps me get like 6,000 steps before I even get home. That way I don't have to spend my whole evening trying to make up for lost steps. Mondays are tricky though because there is so much to do.

Hi Deborah,

I have trouble getting the steps up when I am not at work! When I work I can get anywhere from 3k to 7k in the workday and somehow need to find time to do the extra.... My way of getting the extra in is by walking the treadmill while watching TV - my rule is that the TV is only allowed on when I am on the treadmill!

I have started a group for those who are work/study "ohilics" feel free to come over and join! https://www.fitbit.com/group/22N83R

Find a buddy or you can do it by yourself....instead of going to the breakroom for your 15 minute break, turn your music on your phone and a walking app and take a brisk walk. I do this on both of my breaks. You can even walk on your lunch break and then eat at your desk later.....Print to the furthest printer at the office and take the longest route to pick up what you've  printed. These little things will help you to get your steps in....Hope this helps

Susan... I wish it was that easy... I am a nurse and am standing on my feet all day at work. Sadly I don't have the luxury of being able to walk around except when I rounds are happening. When I am on my break I have to sit and eat otherwise I would pass out from lack of food. I am not allowed to eat on the go - I can drink water while at work though. When I finish work I try and get some extra exercise in though it is not always so simple. As I said - I am a shift worker... Means there are times that I do evening and overnight work. It really doesn't leave me much time to sleep sadly! I wish it where easier to get the extra steps in when I work but it really is difficult!

Thanks for this boost, I know I can do this but somehow, I have a hard time leaving the desk. The size of my stomache is getting me down so something has to give!

I am also thinking of getting a laptop table that I can shift my laptop onto to get up out of my desk as well.
