Halloween to Thanksgiving (U.S.) Challenge 2016

ANSWERED

Hello everyone! Welcome to the Halloween to Thanksgiving Challenge!!!

This challenge will begin on Halloween October 31st and finish on Thanksgiving (U.S.) November 24th. This is a little less than 4 weeks!  It helps us be realistic about weight loss goals and practice good habits before the next set of  holidays.

All you need to join this challenge is to post your stats regarding your weight, and check in weekly or as often as you'd like. We are a great support group and enjoy keeping up with each other and being there for our ups and downs.  Generally we have found that the more we check in and offer support and ideas to others, the more we get for ourselves.

We list our weight, as well as any other goals we might have related to being healthy (such as increase water, more active minutes, etc).  Developing good health habits is primary.

A little rundown of terminology for anyone who is new.

USW- Ultimate Starting Weight

CSW- Current Starting Weight (for this challenge)

GW- Goal Weight   (for Nov. 24)

UGW- Ultimate Goal Weight   (what your healthy target weight is)

PW- Previous Weight

CW- Current Weight

MFP- My Fitness Pal

List as much info as you like.  Some people include age, gender, height....whatever seems relevant to you.

We keep it as serious or light as we feel, but we always keep it focused on being as healthy as possible, while we support each other kindly.  We can do this together!!

I spent part of yesterday walking fast and enjoying the beautiful fall colors and clear air.

Everything seems to get into perspective when I do that.  And the moon last night was

just beautiful - full, bright, orangey, looked very close to earth and big.

I then cleaned out part of my basement.  I know I went up and down those steps at least

30 times, often carrying heavy things.  None of it registered on my Fitbit!  grrr.  (As if that would have made my scale show a weight loss)

Most important to me:  just a few months ago I couldn't walk at all and became extremely weak.  For me, every step is filled with gratitude.  And to have gotten strong enough and balanced enough to carry things up those steep old  steps, is equally awesome.

@DiAnn704689 In Jan 2015, I started at 190 lbs, joined ww and lost 50 lbs in 10 months.  I have gained a few, so I want to lose them and then 5 more.  I also live in Michigan, and I am 61 years old.

Best Answer

As with the last challenge I can't really lose weight right now (only 3 more months till this baby comes!), but I'd like to maintain (or not gain a lot) and you guys have been SO motivational! I am proud to say that since I posted and have been reading your comments daily I have gotten back on track to hitting my step goal almost every day and I've been keeping active despite the constant tiredness I feel. I attribute it to all of the wonderful things each and everyone of you posts Smiley Very Happy

So far I've gained 7lbs this pregnancy and I'm hoping to keep it around that or a little more if possible. I will also be traveling to my parents house in MS for Thanksgiving since I won't be able to travel after the beginning of December. I'm hoping to get my mom to get into a routine of walking with me everyday to get her more active too. Smiley Happy

@lusry  I'm a big lady and I lost weight during my two pregnancies. I wasn't trying to do so but my doctor told me that the baby revs up your metabolism (In large women) and takes from you what it needs. I was 30 lbs lighter when I had my babies than I was at the beginning of my pregnancies. I was followed by a nutritionist and she felt I was eating great. I was about 250lbs when I got pregnant for my first and 280lbs for my second. I think as long as you are eating WELL and healthy foods, getting activity, you are not going to harm your baby. They used to put large ladies on restrictive diets during pregnancy but thank goodness they don't do that anymore. My mom was put on a 900 calorie per day diet during one!!! Talk about harmful!

Don't worry. Love your belly. Rest and eat wonderful foods. It will all fall into place. Glad you are in the challenge.

@_Lilac_ Thanks so much for the encouragement! Woman Very HappyMy doctor has told me the same thing. As long as I don't eat too many high calorie low nutrition foods and I'm staying active I'm doing ok. The active part is where I've been struggling (or was until I joined the last challenge). It was a struggle to get in 4k steps a day. I travel across the country for work every week - Colorado to NYC (or did, since this is my last week). Then work all day till 6 or 7 only to be so tired all I want to do it lay in my bed in my hotel room. But since I joined the last challenge I've gotten out and explored the city mostly due to reading everyones posts and seeing how people were getting out and being active. I weighed myself on my Aria scale the other day (it said 188lbs) and it wasn't sure if I was my husband or not - we weigh the same now. After this week I'll be able to get more of the nutrition I need that I can't get eating out (I'm a VERY picky eater) and I plan on getting on our elliptical some as well.

It is 6:42 pm here and dark out. I'm sitting in my front porch waiting for the kiddies to come by to get some candy. I've never given out candy before. I've always just taken my kids to trick or treat and then hid in my darkened house, however this year my daughter wanted to hand it out. She did for one child then said she didn't want to sit in the porch all evening so the task was given to me. Yay. *add sarcasm here*. I'm actually not having a bad time. There aren't a lot of kids. I've moved my laptop to the porch with a portable table. I have my tea, ate some raspberries and plan on working on a story I'm writing.

I exceded 11k steps today, ate well, and still have a bunch of calories to eat so I'm going to think up a healthy snack for later. I'm hoping more kids come so there's no leftover candy.

Happy Halloween all and good luck on the challenge. "Stay on target, stay on target" (for those of you who are Star Wars fans).

CSW Oct 29            54.7kg or 120.6 lbs, my lowest has neen 54.1kg or 119.3 lbs on Sept 29 & 30 though I still range from there to 55.9kg or 123.3 lbs, but I am finding it easier to keep in check now. I range sometimes through fluid retention but also fluctuate in activity between boring office days and full on active days, both of which make it hard to find a level daily carb allowance but thanks to my fitbit I always have a good guide as to what I'm burning and how much I should eat.
