I have recently undergone gastric bypass surgery. I am four months out. I was wondering if anyone else on here has had any type of weight loss surgery.

The fitbit keeps me honest. My old fat brain gets in the way at times, ya know? But the motivation is life itself. Gain? Ok, but the tool is still in your gut to make it go away. Go back to the one week pre-op diet then it will jump start you again. Then follow the plan and use the fitbit....... Good luck! Bill

I had gastric sleeve almost a year ago now and have lost just over 100 pounds! I feel amazing and it has changed my life. I just purchased a Fitbit last week once I was finally able to find a charge HR in stock. So far, I love it and I am hoping it will help motivate me to lose these last few pounds and get to my under 200-pound goal!. If anyone is looking for some help, ideas or just have some questions about the process let me know! We can keep each other motivated and learn some new things along the way! Good luck everyone!

Hi Ray,
may I ask you if you would do the surgery again?
It's a major surgery and my doctor has asked me if I would consider it. I have "only" another 67 lbs to lose to get into a healthy BMI range and right now feel that 67lbs dont warrant such a major surgery. Then again... it would make things a lot easier! Though the lifestyle change is necessary either way. If I do the surgery or not, right?!
I'd just like to hear about your experience if you dont mind sharing!
best
Birgit

Hi Ray,
I did the surgery almost 2 yrs ago. Started at 180 lbs. Did it for health reasons. (not weight) I was taking insulin 5X a day, had stage 3 liver disease, and a ton of other meds. Only lost 30 lbs. Very worth while. I still eat light, can eat almost anything I want. Will dump if I have too much sugar, but being insulin resistant, and w diabetic gastroparesis, I needed the help. It was my only option , said my MD.

sbgrimes,
That's great!, I was lucky and had not had any major medical issues up until the point of my surgery (one of the reasons my insurance decided it was not necessary and would not pay) but now I feel like I have lowered my risk for many of the medical issues that plague people who are overweight. Fingers crossed!

I was reversed almost 5 years ago, rny was 12-2001, I had a major regain, LONG story, before my rny was reversed (I gained back almost 100 lbs in 2 years, due to meds) after keeping weight off for almost 6 years. Feel free to find me on Facebook, if you like. I hope you are feeling better, Brenda .... Peace, Lisa

Hey everyone, I had the gastric sleeve on 12/11/14 and have lost a total of 59.6lbs since pre op! I've been getting too comfortable with the fact that I don't really get sick from eating and have been gaining and losing the same 2lbs for about 2 months. I want to lose another 20-25lbs so I just bought the fitbit to get my butt in gear and actually start losing weight again! Hope this helps!

08/27/2014 was mine! RNY 340 pounds at my highest, Diabetes type two, high blood pressure, Cpap machine, big car because I could not fit into the Mustang I had always wanted. I was in the US Army and always fought with weight. I was 219 pounds when I was drafted in 1969 at age 18. I at age 8 got my clothes from the Husky department at Sears & Roebuck!
Finally at age 65, August 27, 2014 my life changed. No dieabetes. No high Blood pressure. No cpap machines. Great numbers on my blood test yesterday at the Doctor's Office.
The Mustang? A fifty year wait, but two weeks ago I got it! 2015 Mustang, my Black Beauty! For me this was a real life saver. For you? Well that is your choice. No two people are the same. I have had zero problems. I also followed to a "T" the instructions my Surgeon gave me. I listened to his team. I attend the once a month get together with my fellow former fat folks! They are so important in this trip towards a healthful life. Do I feel better? It is hard to describe how bad I no longer feel. I guess this is the way "Normal" people have always felt. My Surgeon, in St. Augustine Florida, Dr. M., is also a RNY patient himself. He has performed over 10,000 surgeries now. He is an Angel sent by God, IMO!

@Mermaid3011 This is just my peronal opinion. With 67 pounds to go, I would do everything in my power to try to do it without getting surgery. Ultimately surgery is a tool. One that can work well but can have side effects also. Either way you go, it will require a lifestyle change. I would exhaust all the non surgical tools I could 1st.
