Have you lost weight since you got your Fitbit?

I am the exact same weight as I was when I got my Flex 3 1/2 months ago!

How about you?

I'm hoping with Spring here and Summer around the corner, that my walking will increase.

Veggies (especially fresh ones, or frozen, but not canned) are always your friends: they’re usually low on calories, high on fiber, filling, have vitamins, minerals etc. It’s really hard to overeat them.

Lots of protein is the key.  Protein calories require a lot of work for your body to break down so they are inefficient which is great.  Add a lot of fresh veggies and you will lose weight.  Of course, carbs in the form of sugar are the down side of a diet.

I have had my Fit bit zip for almost a month, have not lost any weight yet. I need to cut back on the chocolate, and exercise more on my days off work. I am open to suggestions on foods that help lower weight.

Smaller portions.  I've lost a fair amount of weight over the last year and at times it has included chocolate, ice cream, chips, alcohol.  The trick is not all on the same day.   Woman Tongue

Seriously though, you did say the right things 'cut back'.  I've found for me that just paying attention to what I'm eating is way more important that what I eat.  Until recently I lost a lot of my weight counting calories.  I treated it like a budget.  I could spend 2500 calories a day.  At work they will occasionally have the overly sweet, calorie laden white cake with lots of icing.  Let's say it's 300 calories for a fairly small piece.  So, when they're cutting it do I really want to spend more than 10% of my daily calories in something I don't really like?  However, I can have two pieces of dark chocolate covered caramels with sea salt for 140 calories.  In the end I'd rather have 4 of the caramels instead of the cake.  However, with the caramels I'm sometimes happy with just one.

I'm at the point now where I can usually figure out my calories in my head, but I really do stick to the same basic concept.

(Okay today I didn't even bother to count - dinner was some shared calamari, edamame, then curried chicken, and a chocolate mousse torte with goat's milk caramel, raspberry jam and pistachios - worth every calorie!  I did skip the alcohol, had no breakfast, and a fairly light lunch so the damage will be minor as this was a nice enough place that the portions were not huge.)

I fluctuated for a while but I'm finally on a losing streak! I've had my fitbit for alittle over a year now. t first I lost two lbs. Then I went back up. Now, since the start of the New Year, I finally lost 7 and it's staying off. Slow and steady my friends!

I found that once I got close to 10 pounds that weight loss took on a life of itself.  Seeing some good results got me looking to lose more--all the way to 60

Unfortunately no.  But I've only had it for about a month.  Like you, I'm hoping that when spring gets here, I'll be more active.  I've only gotten 10,000 in a day once.  I really need a mentor or trainer to help me reach my goal!!  Or even just some moral support!

I'm even considering trying Nutrasystem, but I'm not yet confident that it will help.  I'm afraid of getting caught up in an internet scam.  Does anyone have any suggestions about Nutrasystem?  Did it work or not?

Good for you!  But can you tell me HOW you skipped the alcohol?  I think that's my worst problem at the moment!

But doesn't protein put on weight if you aren't active enough?  I've always been afraid of that.  I have protein bars in my desk at work but I feel guilty if I eat one.  What are your thoughts?

Can you explain what is wrong with canned veggies?  They're soo easy to keep in the pantry and they don't go bad for a long long time.  Are they really not as good as fresh ones?

Nikki,

Did you ever struggle with alcohol intake?  I'm having that problem right now.  I love the fact that you get up early and do a workout!!! I've been setting my alarm for 0500hrs but I usually snooze it till 0600 when I have to get ready for work.  Do you have an active job?  Mine is extremely sedentary.  I sit in front of a computer all day.  But I do take a moment at least twice to get up and walk around.  I struggle with planning my lunches for work.  Most of the time it's left over dinner.  I do have cans of soup and "had" a can of ravioli in my desk at work that I had for lunch.  Unfortunately most of the time I just skip lunch and overeat at home for dinner.  So what I really need are some good lunch ideas to take to work..  can you help?

I only got to 10K once in my first two months.  It seemed like a monumental task.  But by summer of last year, I got above that on most days.  Starting in mid September, I set a goal of 12K per day and to get there every day.  I have now made in for almost 150 days in a row.  A complete transformation.  And I have kept the 60 pounds off that I lost over six months last year.

I got my FitBit in Feb 2016. I got serious about my weight loss in Sept. As of today I'm down 78 lbs and love tracking my steps! My daily goal is 10,000.

@A.Wallace: kudos for the impressive results! If your weight loss isn’t over yet, you may want to join the Weekly Weigh In thread, which is great for accountability and mutual support.

I have lost 15 pounds since I got my FitBit. Having it linked with My Fitness Pal has really helped to match my intake with my output.

I have lost 130 pounds walking.  I used to have a fitbit, but did not use it immediately.  I walk up to 30,000 steps per day and was eating using the HMR Plan with the meetings.  I was not very active, less than 5000 steps/day before I started.  I added steps when my body was ready.  I am running again as well as walking primarily due to its efficiency.

I am not sure whether it was the food/plan or the exercise, but I don't care.  I am in Phase II of the program and adding food, trying to keep my exercise at that same level so I can keep the weight loss.  Trying to determine whether 30,000 steps per day is sustainable/necessary to keep the weight off.  Not sure yet.

I love the fitbit, which I purchased after I had lost 80 pounds, the original goal was 100 pounds.  I am in several work week challenges.  I love the competition and inspiration! If I knew about thiat earlier, I would have gotten another fitbit or used my old one earlier.

Friend me if you would like to inspire each other...

I had already started counting calories and hill hiking before getting my Fitbit, a Charge 2, at the very end of January this year. I have lost a little over 20 pounds since the second week in January. For now, my goal is to lose 90 pounds total, but I have always weighed more than I look like I weigh, so if I reach a certain size/body fat percentage before I reach the goal weight, then I will work to maintain there. The number is just a ballpark for me and not something I'm super attached to.

What the Fitbit has done for me is help to make me aware of when I'm being too sedentary. I have been moving a lot more overall since wearing it. I also enjoy the breathing/meditation feature for a few little relaxation and mindfulness breaks during the day.

However, I have found I can't really follow its calorie recommendations for me. When I started eating as much as it was telling me to eat, I started re-gaining. I have to shave off anywhere from 15-20% of its calorie recommendations, or I don't lose. I never eat under 1200, and I'm usually averaging between 1300-1450. I know when I get closer to my goal weight, I'll have to start being more precise with my deficit. For now, it's working for me. I've added body weight resistance training to my walking routine to maintain muscle as much as I can during the loss.

Given what you said about your weight, I would focus more on body fat percentage.  I found that focus to be quite helpful because I have some of the same challenge that you do.
