Healthy Snacks

Hi everyone!

 

Times have changed, and a lot of us are sitting a lot during these times, mostly on a pc or our desks. 

During the day we tend to have small snacks instead of a full healthy meal, due time-, space-limitations or other causes. 

 

The most common snacks, we tend to take are chips, fries, sandwiches, sweet bread, cookies, chocolate bar, etc! 

A lot of them are known of having big amounts of sugar and/or fat.

I've tried to change those for cut veggies, like cucumbers, and carrots. 

I love that you can eat them raw, just a pinch of salt and some lime juice, or if you have a bit more time, combine them with a nice dressing. 

A small plate of fruits, left on the table, also are fine to snack on them every time I pass by.

Dehydrated fruits or/and nuts are other possibilities. 

I haven't felt as inflated as I used to be after a bag of chips since.

 What would you consider healthy snacks? 

Do you have receipts, tips or ideas?

How do you prepare them?

@JuanFitbit  popcorn! Got this simple glass microwave popcorn popper and have been enjoying it. One quarter cup of kernels and in three minutes, I have a big bowl of popcorn to munch. I use salt substitute and some spray butter. For me, it's the crunch value. If I just mindlessly eat chocolate or ice cream, there is no crunch. If I eat chips all the time, it's not good for me. Popcorn provides the crunch and flavor. Here is a picture of my popper. pop.jpeg

@Odyssey13 , wow. Good choice! I haven't thought about it, as I always relate popcorn with butter. Tasty! But after reading your post, I tried them without a thing on them, and they seem a very good alternative. Eating the popcorn I was also thinking about the rice cookies (inflated rice) !

Maybe other Community members have more tips, and thoughts.

I make a veggie dip with cream cheese and ranch dip mix that is very good. it is 1 8oz package of cream cheese and 1 1oz package of ranch dip mix.

Hi @tambas , nice to see you see you here. Wow! Sounds great! I'll have to try it sometime. Have you tried cottage cheese with lemongrass, as a dip?

Fine chopped lemongrass, cottage cheese and a few olive oil drops. Highly recommended.

Hello Here is a few things I do to help me through the snack time:   ( I was on Keto at the time not counting calories, so this list might not be for ever diet )  

 

1)  Blueberry's & Strawberry's with heavy cream. 

2)  Hard boiled eggs

3) rolled up Ham Slices, many different flavors like Applewood, Smoked, Maple etc.

4)  Johnsonville Summer Sausages I would thinly slice, and add cheese on top.  super good!

5) Sugar free Jell-O /Sugar free Pudding    -with the Jell-O i would sometimes add fresh fruit.

6)  Cheese Cubes ( for those following Keto /low carb ) 

7)   Atkins Bars :  low sugar 1G / low carbs  many too choose from,  I like the peanut butter cups,  Carmel squares ,  ( find them in the pharmacy dept. 

😎  Sugar free -  zero calorie Fruit Juice - I enjoyed the Ocean Spray 5 Calorie Fruit juice, I usually find it on the top shelf. dont let the "Cran" scare you off you will not taste any cranberry.  ( Blackberry, Cran-Mango -Cran-Grape  etc all taste great )

Hello @free4now  What is it with people being afraid to drink anything cranberry? It blends nicely with other flavors. Now I have to get some juice from the grocery store. Good suggestions!

I agree.  With only 5 calories they really help when i have a sweet tooth & healthy drink to boot.  While i do drink water, I have to admit it gets very boring.   *  also those powder suger free - zero calorie Crystal light strawberry Kiwi is my favorite.

Nice suggestion @free4now ! I agree, drinking only water is sometimes a bit boring. Luckily I have access to a lot of fresh fruits, and try to have fresh fruit juice most of the times. I have to confess that sodas sometimes get me! I'm weak ! But normally I try to avoid them.
