Alright. I just got done chowing down a slice of cake and a second cookie for the day... I took a look at the caloric facts & about wanted to cry...
Instead, I am just realizing I am going to have to up my goals during this time of year to try to offset the holiday sweets that are EVERYWHERE!!! & lets be real, nobody can avoid all of it.
Whats your Holiday Goals? I am probably going to have to up my step goals from 10k to 12-14k's during this period to offset the added calories.
I am thankful... that Fitbit has accurate & easy tracking tools so I can keep track of the calories that I am eating & try to off set the damage.

It is good that you are aware of what you need to do. Just remember you can't outrun a poor diet. No matter how many steps you add, you can't walk off a slice of cake and cookie everyday...

I admit that I'm an enabler of sorts. Once a year (Christmas) I make a point to take in cookies and such for the three shifts in the plant (little over 300 people). It's a lot of baking and oddly enough by the time I'm done I really don't want to look at a cookie for a while. I started working out the calorie counts and they run somewhere between 70 and 80 calories each (they're small, most of them ~18g of dough each). Of course, I'm also a dieter that doesn't believe in denying anything specifically. It's more like a budget and I decide how I want to spend it. I can skip the high calorie mediocre taste of the sheet cake the plant brings in for a retirement party (2x2" piece at least 250 calories). Single dark chocolate & sea salt topped caramel - 70 calories. If I had my choice I'd rather take 4 of the caramels over the cake. And with the caramels I can be quite happy with one.

It's easier to not eat that extra calorie than burn it off. If you've been on your journey long enough, you'll find that anything is okay to eat. If you want a donut or a cookie then have one or two. Just don't indulge yourself on them until you feel sick. Most people who are overweight/obese have eating disorders. They can't control what or how much they eat and they dgaf because the pleasure of that food rush overcomes everything. Don't get too comfortable with comfort food if you're trying to lose weight because it'll definetly end your journey early.
An advice I could give anyone is intermittent fasting. Fasting for 16 hours is a good practice. Give your body a nice long rest and let it starve a little. That 16 hour of fast let's your body use all your stored energy before you get to eat again to avoid unnecessary fat gain.
At the end of the day, just be mindful of what and how much you eat. Always be aware if you've previously had an eating disorder because it's always trying to find it's way back into your life.

I just began intermittent fasting yesterday, so my goal is to just get through the holiday by sticking to my 8-hour eating window and ensuring I get my daily 15k steps. I am not going to try to set too many limits on calories since I have no way of really knowing how many are in all the homecooked foods I will be eating, but I hope to stick to one dinner plate and one small dessert plate.

Something that I try to do is find comporable menu items to what I am eating at home & add them into the food log. It really helps, even though it may not be 100% accurate, atleast that way I am keeping some track of what I am eating compared to what I am expending. yesterday I forgoed a Energy Drink & a whole personal pizza when I went to a Minor league basketball game, because I had seen that I had already killed my caloric count that day with a slice of chocolate cake & some cookies earlier... split the pizza & got water.
Intermittant fasting is Great. But keep this in mind that really weight management is a game of "calories in vs. calories out". The holidays are a challenge... thats part of the reason why I find myself upping my goals for the season so that I can justify a few more sweets here and there. #Cheers
