How do you stay motivated to get up and get to the gym when its in the negatives out side?? I am from California, but we are a military family and based in OHIO!!!! BRRRRRR! I have become lazy since moving here. I have zero motivation to get all layered up to drive to the gym. My heated blanket seems to be winning the battles! Anyone have any motivation/ at home workouts that I could do!??? Help!

I never really get warm sitting under a blanket, at least not as warm as I get from working out. So if I get cold I figure I need to getup and move!
I'd also hate to lose the progress I've made so I look for any chance I can get to exercise.

I live in Delaware where it has been in the negatives for the last few days. Unusual for us. I am just now getting back into an exercise routine but in the past I have used Leslie Sansone Walking videos as well as others I have found on youtube to keep me making steps. I also use my fitbit as a challenge. I clean my house more often just to keep the step count going up.
Set a challenge for yourself. This isnt you against everyone else, just you against you. Try to beat your previous days steps

I really love workout DVDs and own a decent amount of workout equipment, so I don't have to get up and go to the gym on cold days, I just have to convince myself to go to the living room.

I live in Michigan and this has been one of the coldest January's I can remember and I have been here 46 years and lived in Massachusetts before that. I hate going out unless I have to when the temps drop down to single and below temps too so instead I climb the stairs in my house and while watching TV I walk in place, march or run in place during all the commercials--not only does it add to my steps and activity, it warms me up! Most commercials are 3 minutes long so there are a lot of things you can do to keep you active in short time periods and get or stay fit! Use a chair and do some chair exercises, there are lots of suggestions on the internet, turn on a music video and go for it--dance your heart out and no one will be watching :-). Hope this helps!

When it's too cold (or too hot!) for me to want to go outside for a walk (i don't have a gym membership, but i have a lot of hilly areas around) I do some combination of cleaning the house, chasing the dog around the house, and step arobics on wii fit. I used to do this in combination with ea active on the xbox 360, but i no longer have the system. 😞

Well for me, when its too cold, i want to work harder and walk longer because i know i will spend more cals keeping my body warm in cold weather!
In hot weather i'm abit slower but i live in such a nice foresty area that i just plain enjoy it more.
What i do not like, and totally hate is... Ice and nonstop rain casuing lots of mud that ruins my hiking boots.

I have a hard time staying motivated in the cold as well. If you have a Wii, I have found that playing Just Dance is a blast and a great way to get in a workout.
I always wait till I am alone in the house though. LOL

Just keep moving! The best way to stay motivated is to move. If your goal is 10,000 steps a day, try to get them in before noon. Then try to get the next half in by six. The rest of the evening is cushion! You'll end up somewhere between 12,000 and 15,000. That's motivation for the next day.

I am from Philly and its very cold here. I just try not to think about it. Run from my house to car and go to the gym.I start running on the treadmill to get warmed up then I go do wieghts. Just remember how good it feels after you work out. That always motivates me!

I put on salsa and merengue music for 45 minutes to an hour and dance in front of the mirror for at least 4,000 steps. I keep warm and increase endorphins too. So much fun if you pretend you are a back singer or dancer to Pitt Bull.

I also feel like we've slipped into the new ice age here... I like to keep motivated by changing up my usual routine. I'll take the stairs any chance I get, dance around to 80s pop music next to the heater, or play with my pet (especially if you have an indoor/outdoor pet, they'll be thankful for the exercise too!)
If you want to stay under the heated blanket, try doing some simple core work- leg lifts, scissor kicks, crunches- you'll rev up your body and wanna get up and move!

Kim, I don't have at home exercise suggestions (and other folks have chimed in here) but I share the same reluctance to leave a warm house to go into arctic air blast to drive to the gym. So I decided to go to the gym on the way home from other stuff - grocery shopping (groceries, even frozen stuff, is fine in the car thanks to the temperature), errands - anything that will get me out of the house and into my car. It really worked to get me back on track.

P90, P90X, P90X2, and P90X3 are awesome workouts. You should definitely work your way up but well worth it! In home workouts are nice because it works without having to expose yourself to the cold to get your sweat on!
