Uh? I can't think why anyone would be heavier after walking, unless they drink a lot of water.

I am always pounds heavier after a workout or walk. I've wondered about why for years. 🙂

You must be drinking water or something. You can't actually gain weight without consuming something. If you shower before you weigh, it could be that your hair is retaining a ton of water. Otherwise it must be that you are drinking a lot more than you realize during your workout.

Like you I weigh every morning and interestingly enough, the graph looks like the stock market: it goes up and down but the tendency is clear: it's going DOWN... As long as we keep in mind that our body is always exchanging mass with the environment, we should be okay. Good luck!

Hi Cuca,
Yeah, I'd be happy if my weight graph was stock prices lately!

But you're right, the graph trend line still shows *DOWN*, so it's a good motivator, thank you Open Office!
Actually, I experiment with old eating habits .... or I ate badly the last three days, or both 😉
I ate two Hungry Jacks 'bacon and egburgers' and hash browns for breakfast instead of my normal fresh fruit as I had run out, and due to work schedules, couldn't restock.
That's about all I ate (apart from some vegies for lunch as the total was about 900 calories each day. As a result my weight just shot up, and no doubt a fair bit of that is water retention, but in any event, *that* little eating episode is over now and the graph will reflect that soon.
I also only got to the gym for 1/2 hr on the first day of that junk food binge, so no exercise on the following two days.
Cheers
Terry

Twice a month. Your weight can vary 5 lbs in one day. I suggest using a tape measure around the waist and maybe arm. Measuring you can do more often, with more optimism.

ohhh.....I move up and down 1 to 3 pounds in one day. Weighing everyday doesn't stress you out?

You know, it does cause some frutsration at times, but in most cases it motivates me to eat well and to drink more water, etc. There are days when I KNOW I've added a pound or two, thus I simply stay away from the scale that day, but I don't go more than two days without weighing in.

I weigh in every single morning! I get up, use the bathroom, setup my scale and open my app on my iPhone and weigh myself just prior to taking my shower. I find that weighing myself every morning makes my want to snack less at night (especially salty stuff which make you retain fluids) while watching my favorite shows/movies! It has worked for me so far and although have gained a pound on a day here and there it still helps me knowing that the scale is waiting for me every morning................ 🙂
Good Luck! Make your scale you best friend and think about it every night when you're wanting "something" to munch on!

I concur with what you are doing ClydeRae because I basically do the same thing myself. I weigh every morning after my nature calling and before a shower and it does keep me in line. Especially staying away from the snacks as you state on your post, although I do cheat every so often and eat a cookie or 2 once in a while.
Keep up the good work and may you reach your desired weight.
Take care!

Hi Leonard
I to sneak the occassion cookie or two but always log it and only do it when I have at least 400 calories left to use! Occassionally I even go over but that's usually because I'm out getting food for my son who's been sick so when he's craving something I go get it. And usually end up getting something for myself! Thanks for the comment and keep on running.................
Best of luck on your goal!!

Good advice! I have been working out, but my scale numbers are going up instead of down. I will have my husband take my measurements weekly. Weighing is discouraging, yet it keeps me mindful of what I am eating.
thank you!

I am the same way, I think I am addicted to weighting myself everything........when the scale shows I gained 1 lb. I felt like I messed up 😞
so far, with fitbit's help, I lost 7 lbs since Christmas, I am aiming to lose 20 more lbs

Great news Jane819 and keep up the good work and you will lose another 20 pounds with positive thinking. Don't get depressed because you may gain a pound or 2 every so often because it happens to all of us, including me, and we just have to keep going on pursing our weight goal.
Thanks and take care!

I'm a new fitbit user but not new to the loosing weight saga (sadly) but find it usually works well for me to weigh 2-3 times per week. I agree it must be first thing in the morning before eating and also naked, or at least in just undies. It is still enough to let me know how I'm doing but not too long between weighs to get out of control if have some bad days. But everyone different of course. I also found wighing each day depressing, but as alot of you have commented, it evens itself out in the end.

I find one of the advantages of weighing every day is that I'm learning what effect different foods and exercise have on my weight on a daily basis.
I have found that there is no mystery involved, that my weight doesn't go up and down for unexplained reasons, rather its all a matter of calories in and calories out, except where I eat junk food that's probably high in salt and then I weigh a lot more because of water retention, but that's also lost as quickly.
If I hadn't weighed myself every morning, I wouldn't have those insights into my weight losses and gains.
Cheers
Terry

I agree. Yes, we all know that weighing in every day may not give you an accurate idea of how much weight you've gained or lost, but if doing so benefits you in some way, what the harm in it?
I understand all the arguments about why weighing in once a week makes more sense, yet wish folks in my life would respect my right to do what I think is best for me.

I had the Weight Watchers digital scale and was happy with it for the few years it lasted. It's very accurate.
think the Aria is the ony scale that hooks up to Fitbit directly. It gets good reviews but is pricey. It's one of those things that's probably worthwhile if you can afford it but something you can easily do without.
