Good point yet that approach won't work with a specific modest goal, like losing a pound a week, because your clothes won't detect that subtle a difference.

Hi nottaken101:
I think all person who are dieting have to choose the methods that work best for them as everyone is so different! I perfer the every morning routine as it does keep me from late night snacking knowing I'll be doing my weigh in. If weekly works for you, so be it! Go For It!!!
As far as scales go, if you are a member of Lose It!, they have a scale on their site (LoseIt.com) called Health-0-Meter. It cost me about $70 and it works great with my iPhone and also transfer to my sites on-line via my laptop and my FitBit! It gives you your weight, BMI, Fat %, etc.......
Hope you find a good scale that fits your needs, I know some are quite pricey.
Good Luck to you and your way of doing things, the hell with what other people do. Your are your own person!! Diet or not!!

Thanks for the tip on a scale that syncs with Fitbit.
I agree that we have to do whatever's best for us. Sometimes trying new things helps, too, though. My weight loss coach wants me to weigh in everyday, so I'm giving that a try.
I don't like doing it but maybe that's something I need to think about. 😉

Myfitnesspal has a scale that seems to Sync with Fitbit but is $149, the same price as the Aria.
Good to have options, though.

Not more than once per week same day same time. I was an anorexic when I was young due to the fact that I weighed myself every day and got obsessive about it. Your body weight will fluxuate on a daily basis and if you weigh too often you will take unrequired steps to correct something that isn't broken.
I lost 150lbs following this advice.

I weight in everyday on my Aria and then use TrendWeight (https://trendweight.com) to normalize the daily fluctuations. It works fantastic.

Hi tizmelanie. I am new here. I saw you posted this question last year, dec 2013.
In my experience, for people who started their new health goals... either lose weight, or increase stamina or increase exercises... it is best to measure your weight every week for first to two months. Subsequently, can weight 2 week once and the following week once per month. Ensure you weight each time is about the same time you did. I would recommend you to weight in the evening, just before you have your tea time or snacking or any exercise. Before you get into your scale, ensure you drink a cup of water. Bio-electrical impendance scale is more accurate and usually your feet must be dry before you stand on that scale. I am using Tanita scale that detects body weight, body fat, total body water in %, muscle mass, physique rating, basal metabolic rate, metabolic age, bone mass and visceral fat in %.
You must be wondering, why it must be evening to weight-in? As far as I know, evening is the best time to know our actual body works. Morning is too fresh and most of our body just at the "just wake up state"... at night is like the whole day long with full activities and that may not be as accurate. That is why I suggest, once you weight in the evening, make sure you did regular time of your weight in. Remember, your body must be at "rest state" before you weight-in. It is not encourage to weight after your exercise, unless you wanna know the differences before you exercise and after you had exercise.
A tip on how you can maximise your exercise to ensure you really burn off fat zone or not.
The first 15 minutes of your workout, your body burns sugars and carbs.
At 30 minutes, your body enters the fat burning zone.
40 minutes or more, Keep Pushing!! 🙂 Hope this helps you too. Can i add you as my friend in fitbit?
Hope my comment does help you 🙂

I weigh daily to keep myself engaged like others. I may weigh at other times of day (just to check) but I only take the morning weigh with any measure of seriousness. You can move up and down during the day so... I'm looking for that morning number to be down everyday, from the previous day.

when I'm home, I weigh in every morning before breakfast. However, I am on vacation and have no access to a scale...this is frustrating, because I know I am losing. I am, however measuring weekly and my clothing size has gone down. So this is motivation for me.

Lol........if a person is applying to live and eat healthily with regular exercise and get enough sleep, he or she should not be worry on how often to weight. If your weight is maintaining well for a period of time, just once per month or twice per month for weight-in. Unless you are back to your old eating habits and different lifestyle (unhealthy) applied.
If a person is on weight management program, yes... it is important to weight-in every week in the first month. On the following month, can be two weeks once...its depending the person has any good progress in their first month or not. In my experience, I do follow up with the person every week in the first month when they are in my weight management program, and when the results showing as planned then you ll know next month can be twice per week and keep in touch with them via social medias or social application. Motivation doesn't last long and that's why it's important to get them motivated at all times.

Only once a week on the same day around the same time. It is not healthy to become obsessed with your weight and seeing the consitant change can bring you down to loose focus on your goal. It is better for your mental health to weigh in once a week.

I usually weigh in weekly, set my weekly goals, but sometimes daily. Depends on how I feel.

I weigh in daily. It works for me, because I have gone a week not weighing in and noticed I gained weight because it wasn't at the top of my mind. Sometimes it is discouraging, but it all evens out by the end of the week and I lose 1-2 lbs.

I personally weigh in once a week. I used to weigh every day, but I found it way too discouraging and would eventually take me off focus.

Once a week...every week....same time (morning) every week. I don't see the point in weighing in on a daily basis.

i am laughing because you are right. When I get on the scale it says one thing. I get off and get back on it says something different. I walk around and it says something completely different. I do not understand because when you get on the scale and haven't eaten anything and it is a matter of few minutes the weight should be the same. I guess I should just take the first reading but why it changes is a mystery to me.

When I weigh every day I have better control over my eating. If I ignor the scale that means I am not in control and do not want to see what the scale has to say. Starting today I am getting my head back in the game. I have lost 60 pounds and would like to lose another 30. I am a woman on a misson and will hit my goal this year!!!!

Weigh as often as you like, but keep in mind that the scale is only indicating the current pull of gravity on your body. Your weight can change by several pounds over the course of a day. For example, if you drink 16 ounces of water you will weigh one pound more until you go potty. The main thing is to monitor your trend over a week or so. If the trend is up, and you need to lose some weight, maybe you need to change some behaviors. If you're involved in an exercise program, remember that muscle weighs more than fat, but it also burns more calories than fat. So, increased muscle mass = more weight, but more efficient fat burning.

In my opinion, you should weigh yourself everyday, but only track your progress based on weekly averages. I weight 185 lbs, and my weight is +/- as much as 2lbs every morning depending on what time I ate dinner, hydration level, etc.
Weighing once a week only isn't as as good because you might just happen to hit a low point one week and a high point the next, and you'll think you're off track when you're not (or vice versa).
More datapoints = more accuracy.
