I work a full time desk job.  I walk a mile before work at 5 am.  I part as far away from the building as i can ( 400 steps)  I use bathrooms on another floor, I walk to cafeteria and get water 4-6 times per day. I walk out to my truck at lunch, and then take a walk around the building. I take afternoon break to walk around the building again.  When I get home from work, i change into my good sneakers and walk until I hit my goal of  11,500 steps.  Many days I have  9k-10k in before I leave to go home.  you have to re-think how you usually do things,  don't send an email, go see a co-worker, take the long way around,

Take a look at your environment.  First, what shift do you work?  I currently work a 2:30p-11p Monday-Friday.  That allows me time to go on walks prior to work.  If it's a gym day - or a bike day - then I will give myself enough time and simply walk to work.  So take stock of your environment ... do you live in a city/large town/or within walking distance to your job?  If so, walk to work.  It takes far less time than you think and is a good stress reliever.

Also, examine your behavior at work.  For me, I work on the eighth floor of my office building, but I frequently have meetings on the 7th, 9th, and 10th floors.  I always take the stairs.  I also use my lunch breaks to walk; I only get thirty minutes so what I will do is walk around several city blocks, and then spend the last five or so minutes heating up my lunch and eating at my desk.  Typically eating your lunch at your desk is frowned upon by health experts, but I figure if I'm spending 25 minutes outside walking it balances out.

You'd be surprised how quickly the steps add up.

Hi, I'm new to this, but what I have done is track the number of steps it takes to walk outside around the building I work in. It's 330 steps. I shared this with other co-workers. That way, if I need to get in 1000 or so steps, I just walk around the building 3 times. Just be really creative and find excuses for breaks where you can walk to talk to a co-worker, etc.

Leave home early and walk around the building for a bit in the morning,

Eat lunch "on the fly" and keep walking around the building until you hit your 10k

I will walk in place at my desk sometimes when I can't leave the phone. That's where about 20% of my daily steps come from. 🙂

i am a big fan of doing the on the fly lunch.  getting that 25 minutes of walking at lunch adds about 2,200 steps to my daily total

I have done the following things when at work:

1.  I get off the bus a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way to work.

2.  I walk to the park for lunch weather permitting.

3.  I use the bathroom on another floor instead of the closest one to me.

4.  When I worked in a mall, I walked the mall at lunch.

Hope this helps.
