Did you mean:

I just ruined my whole week with cookies

ANSWERED

I have been doing good all week. I have been counting calories, running sprints, going to the gym, getting up super early to workout and preparing healthy meals. Not to mention, I am now hooked and somewhat obsessive about fitbit. Well, anyway I had a great day until I saw my daughters animal cracker snacks for school starring at me. I hid them in my closet from her so she wouldn't eat them all when I should have been hiding them from myself. I usally leave them in the car because I just dont trust myself, but it is just too hot. I thought I was strong enough to be around snacks since I have been turning them down at work all day everyday(seems like, when people see you eating healthy, they try to tempt you with treats) Anyway,:smileysad I just went from being very proud of myself to super disappointed in myself. Why do I always sabotage myself?Smiley Sad

I need friends, please add me to keep me focused

Dear Kiki,

We all do this. I ate three (3) huge cinnimin buns last night, yes 3! I am a night eater, I can eat well all day and then boom, night time hits, and it's all over. I'm like you where I can't have it in the house. If it's there, I'll eat it.

Can you replace your daughter's snacks with healthier ones? I have 3 kids and I haven't done this yet but it was suggested to me. I buy snacks for them that I know I won't like (selfish I know). I have a sweet tooth and if it's chocolate, I'll eat it. Perhaps you can get her something that you don't really like? Something that won't treat you? Also, I've heard that when you're hungry, you should actually take time to prepare a meal with carbs, protien etc. So that you take the time you need to eat something more fulfilling. We don't like to spend lots of time preparing so our brains usually go "meh" and we skip eating.

In the end, don't beat yourself up. We all do it. I'm obsessed with fitbit too and keep coming back. It's the first thing that has actually worked for me. We are all here for you!

You didn't ruin your whole week! You only ate cookies today right? So big deal... Your very next meal you get back on track. Don't let it ruin your week. This is truly not a thing to stress about. Success comes from consistent good choices. Eating cookies one day a week is ok! Keep up the good work!

No I don't eat them everyday, but I wont lie, they were the little tiny bags that look like the 100 calorie bags (more like 130 calories) and I had have every flavor, i didnt stop at the animal crackers, I had the teddy grahams and the lorna doone shortbreads at bedtime. Smiley Frustrated Now I feel like crap, I dont know why I cant just do right, I always have to mess myself up.

It wont show up right a way.  Just get back to eating smart and exercise a little more. You'll be fine!  Sometimes we just have to eat what we crave and move on... just one day. Keep up your good work.

I never worry too much if I have the odd treat. If you eat mostly okay that is good enough

When you goof up in your path to a healthier you, you don't give up and focus on your bad choice. You accept you made a mistake and plan for how you will better handle it next time. Here and now is better than there and then.

I gues it didn't show up because I went down another pound this morning. The reason I said I ruined the week is because I was trying to make a 7,000 deficit for the week. No way i'll get it now.

Your right, i really shouldn't feed her anything I wouldn't want to put in my body. I'm going to look into healthier options.

Don't beat yourself up.   Figure out what went wrong so it doesn't become a pattern.   You might need to figure our a snacking strategy.  A 1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese with pineapple would have been a much more fulfilling choice and wouldn't have set off a binge.

In the big scheme of things a couple hundred calories calories isn't a disaster.   Your relationship with yourself and with food needs some tender loving care.  I know you are a good mother and don't want to project your relationship with food onto your daughter seems like this is the time to evaluate those behaviors.

your right, I dont want to project my values on her about food, but yet i still found myself explaining to her what a calorie is today and how it could make you fat. Am i wrong for that? Anyway I still took her to stop & shop and bought her some weight watchers ice pops because i couldnt find the sugar free ones. And i bought her the 100 calorie gold fish snacks and left them in the car. i hate the goldfish snacks. And i swallowed a piece  of gum today. Is that bad?  I think im going t fast tommorrow.

You had 70 bags of 100 cal cookies?

Do you have enough fat to lose to support trying to lose 2 lbs weekly? Like well over 40 lbs to lose.

If not, I hope you realize that that will NOT be only fat that is lost - you will lose muscle mass.

Rather than deprive yourself so badly that you binge - why not select a reasonable weight loss goal.

You didn't gain it overnight, and despite the fact summer may be here and you want to rush it - are being going to see a scale on your neck for weight - or inches on your body?

Besides, lose the muscle - you'll be doing this again next year, only harder, even if you don't wait to the last minute.

I wrote 7000 deficit for the week which means to have a 1000 calorie deficit for each day. I said no way ill make it now because I eat six times a day and the cookies put me over. I dont have 40 pounds to lose but close to it. I have been taking protein and building muscle. I am not trying to lose just through diet, i am incorporating exercise as well. As for starving myself, i wasn't even hungry, i just wanted them.

There's no reason you can't have cookies every day.  If you budget them in, they're going to keep you from bingeing.  Trying to deprive yourself of all good foods usually backfires.

There is also no reason you can't aim for 2 lbs/week loss.  Ask your doctor or read any respected diet plan, book or article from an authority.  It's considered a safe goal.

BUT if that deficit level makes you likely to binge, choosing a lower one is probably smarter for you.  Nearly everyone will have a level where they have trouble adhering because their diet is too restrictive and a higher level where they give up because the weight loss is too slow or stops.  You have to find the middle ground that works for you, that you can live with long enough to reach your goal.
