I am a 55 yr. old woman having trouble getting motivated. I need a group that will help me out. I am hoping someone out there will take pity on me and invite me in.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I understand you completely. I have a good work ethic when it comes to exercise and using my fitbit. My issues become eating and sabataging myself when I see progress. I somehow stop myself from succeding. But now I must try hard for the first time. When I lost weight this last time I gave up all of my larger size clothes as I was sick and tired of seeing those sizes in my closet. My goal at that time was to get thinner. Now I have put back 5-10 lbs and can't get into my wardrobe and no longer have clothes to fit. I just do not want to go out and repurchase the sizes I used to be. So now, I can only a few items to wear. So, I have only a short time to get myself in order. I have a small trip to San Francisco and a few weeks later a big trip to Europe before I come back to 3 weddings. I'm just besides myself. But it has been 2 full days of being good and hoping to keep focused on my goals. It's not about getting skinny but getting healthy and making better choices. The rest will come if I do not let my past issues get in the way. We all have stuff that prevents us from doing what is best. Let keep trying.

Figuring out what would make you want or need to sabotage yourself. Write if I lose weigh then _______________________ and see what tumbles out. Just keep writing til you discover the reason. Minds are incredible in trying to protect us from things.
All the best,

Glad that diagnosis got you moving and making healthier food choices. That diabetes is one awful disease when uncontrolled. You can bring your A1c back to normal 5.5 with diet and exercise.
Ciao,

That sounds like a really good idea. So far I'm back on track and eating better. My exercise is going well. That was never an issue. It just seems so hard to take the pounds off. They always say the slower the better. This time I caught myself before I put back the weight that took me so long to get off. Now just to finish the balance and keep it off without repeating my past performance.

My goal is to lose the last bit of weight and keep it off. I have so much trouble staying in line with my food issues. I love to eat and mostly the bad stuff. My only saving grace is that I'm really active and work really hard at exercising. I walk, exercise and dance daily. That was never my issue. I just like to sabatage myself. I have so many big events this year and the closer I get to them the more I screw up.

Flowerlady, I just turned 54 2 days ago but am quite possibly in better shape than I've been in in 20 years. Here's how I did it. Very simple. Make good eating choices every day. Stay away from fast food if at all possible....if you get caught in that situation, there's a wendy's near everything....order a baked potato with no toppings, and a small chili...use half the chili as your topping for the potato. no crackers, no sour cream, etc.... On a daily basis, if you still work, take your lunch to work, so you have a healthy lunch. Eat a sensible breakfast every day ( i have plain cheerios with silk milk and fresh blueberries, and 1 hard boiled egg for the protein). Between meals, eat fruit, veggies. Drink PLENTY of water ! Excercise at least 30 minutes every day....ESPECIALLY on the days when you don't feel like it. IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER !!!! I only had 28 lbs to lose, and lost it in 10 weeks. Start out with small goals!! (5 lbs., then another 5, then 7, etc....) If you start out thinking "I have to lose x amount of weight, it can overwhelm you. Set short term goals, and above all, NEVER GIVE UP !!! If you have a set back, it's ok. It happens. Just get readjusted and get back on it ! YOU CAN DO THIS !!!!

Thank you for your article. I thought I was reaing about myself. I start out strong then get bored and give up. I am a female in my 60's
I also need to lose 40 lbs but not having a lot of success.
I wish there was someone like a fitness buddy in my area in the mid 60s that was interested
I go to the gym but always alone but then get bored.
I will keep trying .
Wish me luck...

We can help one another.
Today was hard for me to get motivated, I had to force myself to get my steps in. I just got it done.
Partly I only got 3.5 hours sleep, do not know why I could not sleep. It is hot and I am sweaty. I am beginning to sound like I did before FitBit entered mylife. Excuses. I am afraid I will gain all the weight I lost and stop. I so do not want to do that. Mast days are good. I love the reports, makes me aware if I am slipping.
Good luck to you.
Friend me and we can help one another.
