I need to lose about 30ponds any ideas?

I in 9th grade I'm almost 15 I'm about 5'1 and I'm 162.6 pounds. My goal is around 130-140. I have been trying to loose weight for the the past 5 years and nothing has worked. 2 years ago I ate extremely healthy and went to the gym everyday and worked out for about 1 hour. That didn't even work. I'm normally in the perfect area for calories in/out. I'm either in the green or the yellow.

Have you tried eating Paleo? I had trouble losing weight even though I was watching my calories. I switched to paleo, and I lost 20 lbs in two months. I'm not saying it will work for you, but what I do like about paleo is I feel like I'm not depriving myself of anything. I cans till eat bacon and eggs! I'm also not incredibly strict about it, because I will have a slice of bread or a piece of cake on occasion. But on a daily basis, I mostly stick to it. Check out Mark's Daily Apple or the Paleo Leap if you want more info.

Every body is different and you have to find what works best for you. I'm 5'3 and was 235 pounds. I"m down to 195 now just by working out 30-45 mins 3-4 times a week and eating healthy (and around 1500 calories a day). It's math, burn more calories than you take in. I found that carbs are my enemy so I limit my not so healthy carbs (breads, pasta) and stick to heatlhy carbs (bananas, apples, veggies). I stick with cardio workouts and throw in strength training. You can do it! Just have confidence in yourself and stick with your goals. If you need any help feel free to contact or add me 🙂

The Paleo Mom is a good book too.  And the book The Paleo Approach provides wonderful information and also recipes.  But really, the whole thing is about balance.  Actiity and food - good healthy food.  Also, at your age, I would ask the doctor about checking your thyroid levels to make sure they are in balance too.  Good luck to you!

Controling your protions or calorie intake. I increased my steps to 20k per day and my intake to 1500 cals per day once and the lbs just fell off. After 2wks it was extremly noticeable.

I am trying the 21Day Fix Extreme now to get back to eating right. Doing their intense program for only 30 mins a day as well as getting my steps in is helping.

Paleo is a way of eating, not necessarily a diet. Basically, it advocates eating "like a caveman" -- meaning eating a diet rich in proteins and fat, and limiting carbohydrate intake, although this is an oversimplification. It is similar to Atkin's in the low-carb respect, however, I see Paleo as more of a lifestyle change, whereas Atkin's is sort of a crash diet. Also, Paleo is more about clean eating -- limiting processed foods, eating fresh vegetables and buying meat raised in sustainable/humane manner. You can choose to follow it howver much you want, but the central tenets have really helped me get in control of my weight.

@Bubbles_9 What is your definition of "eating extremely healthy"? What you eat is really more important than how much.

Also, have you ever gone to see a holistic medicine or wellness doctor? You may have a hormone imbalance, and extra estrogen will cause you to carry excess body fat no matter what you do. So many products we use today are filled with artificial estrogen (antibacterial soap, chicken, the lining of cans, etc.). I'd suggest asking your parents to help you find a doctor that pratices holistic medicine because they will talk with you about your entire health history (and your family's history) and look at long term, complete solutions.

Good for you for taking a stand to find health and wellness! Please know that you have a huge support system here on FitBit. Don't give up! It can be so frustrating--especially seeing other people who seem to eat anything they want and never excerise presumably have the "perfect bodies." Focus on yourself and your goal. And realize that healty living is not just a temporary act, it is choosing to change your lifestyle completely. There are sacrifices, but they are worth it.

Begin with walking. Adding that to your gym workouts, is essential.

Put your IPOD on and start with 15-20 mins. Every 2-3 days add 10 mins. Especially with you being in school. Homework, then get your walk on.

Keep your head up. You've made the first steps all ready by hitting the gym, just because the numbers haven't changed, doesn't mean your body isn't changing.

Also are you eating or skipping meals.

I never eat breakfast, so I've had to adjust adding a protein shake in the mornings for my drive. I never understood why people always say you have to eat, I do now.

Have you started home personal training? One thing that I've learned in my years is you can't just do cardio and weight lifting without also including home personal training. There are several home personal training programs online to choose from that works best for you. Fitstar is one, but I also chose a home DVD program that I can follow daily that includes weight lifting.

Even if I walked or ran 10,000 steps and lifted weights at the gym and clean eating, I've found that without home personal training my body fat rose like crazy. I was 14% but then relaxed way too much away from home personal training and went up to 26%. Now I'm fighting on the way back down and already dropped 0.2% so far but I have to remember to keep continuing for every day until I restore my muscles.

Bubbles,

By this statement, I would assume you are referring to the graph on the fitbit application!?  If that assumption is correct, that may be your issue and you are still consuming too many calories.  The fitbit app uses some very basic calculations to arrive at your calories and I know for me, its WAY too high.  There is no way I burned 4,000 calories in a day even if I did 20k in steps.

Rather than look at the graph, log and look at the numbers you're actually consuming and ignore the burning side.  Try to stay between 1200-1400 calories per day and continue your workouts.  Of that 1200-1400 calories try to make the majority come from proteins.  Fat calories are good too, but make sure they come from good sources that include olive oils, fish and Avacados.  Stay away as much as possible from processed foods.  These would be foods that are essentaill ready to eat or heat and serve.  Avoid sugar where ever you can.

If this doesn't work, then by all means seek out a nutritionist and/or medical professional who can run some tests to see if you do have hormonal imbalances that make it difficult or insulin resistance.

Above all, don't lose hope!  There is a path for you, we just have to discover it!

Personally I don’t like counting calories. Most people fail when they do that.

Think – proteins + as much as you can eat vegetables. You don’t have to hungry but you can’t be lazy either. Eat your vegetables - no limit at all.

You are only 15 y old. Your metabolism will take care of the rest.

Beach body 21 day fix with my friends mom. I liked it but I can't find it
anywhere. I loved the shakes that came with it.

@I-train-hard has a point and you can improve your metabolism. Just remember that it takes time. It's always going to take time. Living a healthy lifestyle is a lifetime commitment. There is no answer so simply lose weight. And you don't want to just lose weight, you want to reach a healthy weight and STAY there.

@josephz2va has a good idea with the at home training. Have you tried any of Julian Michael's programs? I used her 30 day shred DVD, and have also used many of her other DVD workouts. She emphasizes the use of circuit training to boost metabolism and maximize your body's fat burn potential. I believe there is even a DVD and book program called "Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism".. in my experience, though, all of them really have the same core strategy and come with a corresponding meal plan so any of them will give you a taste of that type of program. Her DVDs are usually about $10 just about anywhere.

I-train-hard is on the right track for advice. OP, you are 15 and have been trying to lose weight since you were 10? You are still young and your body is still developing. Fad diets and overexercising will get you no where but deeper into a cycle of gain/lose if you rebound. There are too many wonderful young people who get caught in this cycle and end up with life-long eating disorders, you have enough things to stress about at this point in your life.

Find activities that you enjoy - hiking, volleyball, etc - you don't need to tie yourself to a gym, though lifting can be fun too see how you get stronger over time (and this will positively affect your body composition down the road). Tell yourself something wonderful about your body *every day*. Eat mostly whole foods - proteins, veggies, etc. But don't totally restrict treats - allow some in moderation. Give yourself time, your body is going through many changes now and this is a hard time in life in general. No one is perfect, but you are the best YOU that you can be at this moment.

Good luck!
