If I knock 20 years off my fitbit age will I get more calories?

Hi

I know it might sound an odd question but I've been using my fitbit for 2 years almost and have been in maintenance for over a year - I find that fitbit (Zip), with overlay from my HRM (polar) for specific workouts underestimates my calories (I probably have greater LBM than expected for my age tbh) by a couple of 100 a day

So, I thought if I knock 20 years off my age I might get 200 more calories or so? which would make it a little more accurate?

I've got it synched to fatsecret via fatmess (I used to use My Fitness Pal but could no longer cope with the ridiculousness and glitchiness)

Would that work or have I gone quite mad?

It probably would.  By reducting your age in fitbit, you will more BMR credit.  You can play around with BMR calculators to give you an idea how many years you'll need to knock off to find your "true" fitbit age. Smiley Very Happy

Do you count your calories in? If so, do you find there is a mismatch between your total daily intake and your total daily expenditure (as reported by your Fitbit)? In other words, the scale shows you are eating at maintenance, but Fitbit claims you are in a 200 calories deficit?

If you are moderately active (as suggested by the 10k average step count of your profile), workouts performed on purpose probably only account for about 1 hour. That leaves 23 hours for the rest of the day. Even if your Fitbit under-reports calories for that 1 hour, it may still be right on a 24 hours basis. I personally wouldn’t bother adjusting my BMR by knocking years off my Fitbit age.

Thanks Baltoscott

hi Dominique

Yes I am as precise as possible with food logging, by weights in grammes ...I find that I have to eat 1500-2000 extra calories per week in order to remain in maintenance over time. My workouts are only 3 times a week, everything else is step based on Fitbit

Over time, eg since last April my Fitbit undercalculates my TDEE

It seems if I knock off 30 years and add 2 inches I should get another 190 calories each day

so welcome to my new world of being 5'10 and 18
