I'm a 57 yr old woman who loves to lift. I wouldn't classify myself as super fit but do have 10 lbs I'd love to gift to some unfortunate underweight person. I've given myself the gift of personal training for 2014 as I've seemed to have lost some of my motivation and focus. Would love hearing from any one in similar circumstances. Just received my Fitbit for Christmas. I'm working on building up my cardio endurance. I do not like to jog but am willing to do whatever it takes to get rid of the creeping pounds.

I'm in my 50's too but not as fit as you but I plan to be soon. 🙂
Good luck in your dedication to lose those last 10 stubborn pounds. Good luck with the personal trainer, way to keep yourself accountable.

I just turned 60 last week I just started T25 on Monday and just got my fitbit. Hoping to get motivated to eat right, get healthy and lose about 15 pounds. I have trouble staying focused but I think the fitbit will help.

I'm hoping the trainer can get me back on track. I believe I KNOW what to do but without a buddy, it's easy to slough off. My secret goal is to be able to do a wide grip pull up. shhhhh. 🙂

Good luck! I'm hoping Fitbit will help as well. I find myself cursing it at times because for all the steps it records, I'm surprised how few calories I'm burning! No wonder I'm not losing!! Unfortunately, I have a very sendentary job. I'm trying to focus on clean eating and getting in my 10,000 + steps each day.

the biggest eye opener is the actual calorie deficit, I thought I could eat so much more, explains alot, even after burning 1000 plus calories on a 5 mile run..this will be a great training tool. good luck everyone with NY's parties! Vodka is the lowest in calories!! LOL!

I am 50+, running days are over, but have done Jillian Michaels 90-Day Body Revolution, am in the 3rd week of T25. The Body Revolution took care of the 7 or so pounds I had to lose. Goal is to do the Insanity workout after finishing T25.

I love this section of replies from the 50+ female group. I am 51. 5 years ago I trained like crazy for a little triathalon and got my size 12 body down to a never before size 6. That wasn't really my intention as I had gotten a new bike and was mostly interested in completing the triathalon. Up until then, I had believed that I was a big boned midwestern girl so thought the only size 6 I'd ever see was my ring size. I crashed my bike during the triathalon so developed some fears of riding so scaled way back....or should I say scaled way up...back to size 12. What I know now: 1. I'm not really big boned. 2. I looked good at a size 6 but look best at a size 8-10. 3. Menopause really does change us but not necessarily for the worse. 4. My belief that no matter what I do, I can't lose weight anymore is false. I have been wearing my fitbit for a week and really pay attention to how much I sit and have been logging the calories. I've lost 4 pounds in a week. I also have been using the Jillian Micheals 30 day shred video. It's great because the exercises are old school easy but it's an intense 20 minutes. The first two days I thought I would die but by the end of the week I could whip through it pretty easily and then convince myself that 1/2 hour on the treadmill was doable as well. I highly recommend it. I am not going to go nuts with training again but I'll be a size 8-10 in a few more weeks.

I feel your pain I start on a regular doing body pump and I feel so much strong and confidence I do cardio like spin which I love and walking more. It seem like I can't lose any weight.

Way to Go. I'm the opposite. I'm 50, been working out for 10 mos. now and have seen very little weight loss. I've lost a lot of inches, but I want to lose pounds as well. My end goal is a total of 50. I'm doing 45 min. to 50 minutes cardio at least five days a week. I've added strength training about 3 mos. ago. I'm up to working with two 10 lbs. handweights, and a 10 lb. medicine ball. What am I doing wrong?
I just got by fitbit about 3 weeks ago and it is providing me a lot of insight. I'm not sure if my calories in and calories out are where they need to be. For example on Wed., last week, FitBit said I'm in the zone with 19 calories left in my budget. What does that mean exactly? Does that mean I can eat 19 more calories and still have a chance to lose the weight I want to lose if I stay at this pace????
Please help hard working 50 year old.

Have you tried interval cardio training? You warm up walk for 5 minutes then run as fast as you can for 30 seconds, slow down and walk or(jog) for 1 minute then back to the fast pump your arms 30 second blast off and then slow again. You do this for 15 to 20 minutes.

Have you set up a Food Plan in the area where you log the food you eat? How much of a calorie deficit do you have?
Are you weighing your foods, measuring them, or just eyeballing it?
What percent of your calories come from carbs, protein and fat?
Okay, the weights. Are you lifting with a 10 lb weight because that's all you can do, all you have, you're worried you'll bulk up, or because someone told you to do really light weights with a whole lot of reps?
With those answers, we might be able to tell a lot more. I will tell you that I'm 50 as well, and it is harder than it was 25 years ago, but it absolutely can be done.
