July 4, 2017 challenge

Welcome to the next Challenge!

This one will start today, May 30 and go to July 4th.  That gives us 5 weeks to work toward our next set of goals as we try to lose weight or maintain in a healthy way.

Everyone is welcome to join this terrific group. You can post once weekly or every day - whatever you like - to share your journey, give and get support, offer advice, get some tips.  We have celebrated each other's successes, and empathized with the setbacks.  I personally found, the more I respond to others, the easier it is for me to focus on my own journey in a positive way.  We have seen great progress in previous challenges, in weight loss, health, learning, and non-scale success, because we are in it together and focusing on being healthier and living better lives.

Some of the terms used to report our weight:

USW - ultimate starting weight - the heaviest weight when you began to lose

SW - starting weight for this challenge

CW - current weight for the day you report in

GW - goal weight for this challenge, for Halloween

UGW - ultimate goal weight that you intend to reach eventually

Some people also include their height, their age, their BMI.

All  you need to do to join, is start posting, usually with some of the weight information.

I do find this to be an amazing group of smart, wise, kind, and determined people.  I look forward to this next challenge, and sharing this journey and all we learn with each of you.

Bobbi

Hi all brand new well in the fitbit sense anyhow.  Got my blaze yesterday did start but only getting the hang of things and logging deets now.  I abhor all things social media so please bear with me if I mess things up I'm not familiar with this type of thing, giving it a go though as my private inactivity has not served me well heretofore!

@OrionNebula  @Daithílocha  Welcome!!! It's so good to see some new faces, not that the old ones are...uh...not old...wise...I'm just getting my foot in my mouth. I guess I'd better stop now.

Have a good time here. I love my fitbit as it gives me a way of measuring my progress and I can be fiddly with numbers, etc. Keep moving, keep drinking (water), and have fun!!

Ok, ok, I'm going....I just spent 40 min lost on some link to link to link scavenger hunt started by a post by my sister. Guess I blew all my prep time this morning. *grumble grumble* I'm off to the pool and I have too much to do today. I should have done half of it yesterday and I just wasn't in the frame of mind. Now, I'll pay for it. Shopping, laundry, kitchen, then I'm going out this evening with family. Busy busy. Speaking of busy...where's @HeartBiller

Ok, ok, I'm late for the pool. Sigh. Maybe I'll just walk to my shopping...that'll be at least 30 min....still have to go though...motor motor. See you later.

So today is the first time I have weighed myself since May 25. I have lost 4.8 lbs. I am pretty happy! Although my steps are usually around 10,000 due to my foot injury I have really cleaned up my eating. I am by no way starving myself. Just got rid of A-LOT of junk! I have had occasional treats, like an actual serving size of ice cream rather than 2 cups! Hope to continue my progress as I feel better already. For some crazy reason, in the past, if someone noticed I had lost weigh I would use that as an excuse to indulge. This time I am going to train myself to only work harder if weight loss is mentioned. Good Luck everyone! Enjoy you day where ever you are!

@joylendragon  You just did it!! We just need to post and have the desire to make ourselves healthier. Welcome and much success to you. You can also post your stats, as many of us have,...ultimate start weights, challenge start weight, etc. This is not required though. You might want to track your NSV (Non-scale victories) instead or at the same time.

I hope you have a great challenge.

@OrionNebula - Awesome that you joined the challenge.  This is my first challenge too and I am 1 lb heavier than you - 317.5.  As far as ambitious, I say shoot for the moon, land among the stars.  Good luck to you!  We can do this!

@_Lilac_ - No worries on my walking, I have been building up for months and am excited at how far I can go now and feel good.  I generally break it up - 2.5- 3 before work, 3 - 3.5 at lunch, and the rest in the evening.  🙂  Yes I am looking for lots of success in this challenge and looking to support others as well!

Welcome all new comers.  And so glad to see familiar names.

We are in this together, focusing on taking good care of ourselves and getting healthier.

@WalkingLisa - I'm very impressed.  How long does all that walking take?  You are making me re-think my schedule.  Thank you.

Hey everyone! I have had my fitbit for about 3 weeks now and i am so surprised at how motivated i have gotten since i first put it on. Keep the dashboard up on my puter, plan my meals and pay attention to the bit when it tells me to get movin!! Its been hot here in s.c. and with the COPD its rough trying to walk outside also our minihelicopter mosquitoes think they are vampires. But i have been working at my steps and now can get up to 5k and sometimes 6k. Sometimes i go to our local walmart and do laps around the store.I also try to follow my Food Lovers Fat Loss system, helps me keep on track.  I have lost 15 lbs. in the last 3 weeks and am more active than i have been in a long time. I have found a few new muscles that i didn't know i had , just a little achy now. Well enough on this book. Take care.

@WalkingLisa It's great to see someone else my size on the weight loss journey! We CAN do this 🙂

@joylendragon - I also had that huge increase in motivation when I got my fitbit at Christmas!  It really does set you up to take charge of some important things in your life.

Great to see all these new posters!

I am really hoping to do better on this challenge than on the last two.  I am frankly quite disappointed in myself.

A couple of other people mentioned it earlier - evening snacking/binge eating is my downfall too.  I do really well through the day, but in the evening it's a struggle.  I even went to bed earlier than usual last night to avoid the kitchen scavenging 😉

GOOD MORNING!!!! today is a great day. This morning i stepped on the scale and found that i have met my first goal, 15 lbs down. Now for the next goal, after i figure out how to change it. lol. At 69 y/o i needed a lot of motivation, which i couldn't seem to find. With the fitbit i did find it. I use the log everyday, plan my meal. Can't believe how much food i use to eat. I eat a sensible meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner and i have a 100-250 calorie snack in between. I even have a snack after dinner, a small one, a boiled egg or a cheese stix etc. So far it seems to be working well. This group is wonderful. To meet so many people with the same goal is fantastic. Thank you all.

I wish I could run. I'm 61 and my knees get really sore if I do a lot of running so I just walk real fast. Some people say my walking pace is faster than their jogging or running pace lol. I make up for unable to run by walking more. Currently, I'm out of work job hunting and when I'm not searching on the internet, I'm usually walking around the neighborhood, usually walking by 5am before sunrise. Getting into Fitbit challenges does seem to make me walk more, one challenge I didn't have a day under 40K, another I didn't have one under 50K, but this week, I haven't been able to keep the pace. I had one day in the 20's and another in the 30's rest in the 40's.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's commendable. I've been working on my weight loss a long time. I should have done it a lot sooner. I did get almost there when I was 40, then work interfered with my workout times ( I was walking at 5am, then I got projects that required a lot of driving leaving by 6am) and gained all the weight back and then some. It would have been nice to participate in some 5K's with my children before they went into the military.

I don't participate a lot either. If these boards would show up in the mobile app, I probably would be more apt to participate. I do participate a lot on some Facebook groups dealing with Fitbits and fitness and healthy eating because I can use my phone.

Good luck in your journey!

David
