Just being honest with myself

How many of us have bought the FitBit, but still haven't utilized it to it's full potential?  I love the fact that the HR tracks my heartrate, sleep, etc.  But I still don't log my water or calorie intake Smiley Indifferent  Not sure what stops me because I have the app on my phone...I just never have.

Not sure if it's just time consuming, in my mind.  Or the fact that I just ate a bunch of crap and don't want to hold myself accountable.  i do know that the sugar addiction is real and I Fight myself daily about it..but I still don't log it.

I need to get off my behind and get moving becuase the only one stopping me from losing weight...is me. ugh.

HI, yes. I found out that unless I'm moving I can't lose weight. When I started moving I started losing. very slowly. but I've finally lost 5 lbs in a month. I'm on my 2nd month now. I started walking a mile, now two miles, early in the morning, because It cooler, and then I started just kicking my feet out about 20 times and then i did some shadow boxing. ( Just because I was angry at someone and I wanted to build my arms up) LOL to be honest, 20 punches.  the more I did the easier it got. I hope this helps for you.

Just get moving, Keep moving. it works. Good Luck ! 🙂

What started me moving was a contest at work. We had to log miles and were given a pedometer to "walk to our new Warehouse" that we were opening in California (We are on the East Coast). I started walking with my husband, 1x around the building. It was 1/2 mile, and I had to stop 3x. Now we do 3x around the building on our lunch (1.5 miles) and I don't need to stop. I hate exercize, and now I find that I miss it if we don't go! It's a break from my day at work, gets me out into the sun which helps with my mood, and the benefit is that my core has gotten stronger and my weight has started dropping again.

I don't log my water because I know when I get enough. I have to log my calories, or I eat waaaaay more than I should, even with the gastric sleeve. I have just started being honest with my logging, though, and tracking everything, good or bad. It's the only way to actually figure out what your weak points are and fix them.

When you are emotionally ready, you will use your FitBit. 🙂 Go easy on yourself, and start small with something you know you can do.

Logging food can be difficult at first.... but I find it to be a great tool if you want to lose weight.  I didn't realize how many calories I was actually eating a day until I started logging.  Once I started logging, it was much easier to not eat stuff that before I would of thought I can eat that piece of cake I haven't ate much today, when I really ate a lot of calories already that day.  I know calories can be off when logging, but it atleast makes you much more conscious of what you are doing.  From my experiences, the best I ever do at losing weight is when I add walking, and count calories.

I also started looking at calories like money.... Every day I start with x amount of calories I can eat.  If I exercise, I earn more I can eat.  If I eat more calories than I had for the day, I add to my "credit card debt" (my gut).

I just recently started logging my food.  I have had my fitbit for about 3 months.  For me I was eating well.  I prefer step progression.  so not adding the looging of food doesn't seem overwhelming.  Plus the scan function makes things so much easier.

I do that, too! When my husband and I are shopping, I'll ask him how much
something "costs". meaning how many calories does it have? How much is this
going to cost me. 😛

I find keeping up with logging my food to be useful. I sometimes don't like having to admit to some of the stuff I eat, but I think part of the secret is just to do it, and not berate yourself up over poor choices or too much of something. Eventually I was able to look back at the day and think about where I could have made better choices, and then I began to put those thoughts into practice. It's really very painless - as long as you're not beating yourself up. You can still allow yourself treats, you'll see where they can be best used and appreciated.

Heya!

Oh how I know this feeling... having all the toys and gadgets and still.... Been there. Done that. How often and how long... Can't tell you anymore!

I just know that since January this year, I've used my fitbit daily. It only comes off to take a shower or to go swimming. I have logged my food 95% of the days (even the bad ones with the pizzas and icecream sessions) and have lost 55 lbs so far.

I think you have pretty much named all the things that are standing between you and your personal health and fitness goal.

It's called "self sabotage" and is a nasty little beast. I know it all too well and decided to "unfriend" it earlier this year. 😉

  • Logging food is not that time consuming once you have built a list of your "go to" foods. Often it's just cut and paste Breakfast 1, Breakfast 2, Breakfast 3.
  • Not logging the foods that are "bad" ... makes us look at it, makes us aware of the "shoulds" and "should not's" - my personal coach once said "this is a community where we don't "should" all over ourselves"  Log it. Make a mental note of it and try to move on.
  • It's all about progress, not perfection! Repeat this daily for yourself. Be kind and understanding... just like you would with your best friend. Would you call her out for that piece of cake? No. You may just take the platter, bring it in the kitchen and put a plate of fresh fruit on the table instead. Right?
  • Treat yourself as if YOU were your best friend!
  • Stop talking yourself down, chastising yourself for not doing this or not doing that.

Instead - join the forums. Get a personal coach. Find a friend or a personal coach who will remind you of how much you have achieved already. Who will ask you on a daily basis how you are doing and how he/she can help you. Be kind and understanding and you will get to a point where you WANT to eat this and not that, because you know you will feel better and it's kinder to yourself.

Lots of love

Birgit

Oh and one more thing that I just had to confirm:

People who keep food diaries 5-7 days a week lose on average TWICE as much weight as people who only log their intake 1-2 days a week.

There are quite a few medical studies about this out there.

I attribute most of my weight loss to the fact that I did start logging EVERYTHING I eat. (Almost) every day I keep under my calorie goal of 1200, or I excercise to cover any overages in my eating.

I've lost 16lbs in 2 months, started with a total of 60lbs to lose. I started with the default step goal of 10k, but have since upped it to 12k. I usually only work out twice a week. Logging all the calories really helps.
