Just got Alta...calories burned is seriously OFF?!

Ain't no way I've burned 2000 calories by going to Target today and then working at my computer all day. At that rate I will be able to eat a TON of food each day and then another TON on days I work out! I don't understand this feature at all!!  I appreciate the help. Really want to use this gadget to help me, NOT frustrate me. LOL!

Without knowing your age, height, weight, etc. nobody can answer that.  Try a BMR/RMR calculator as a start.  This will, in general, tell you how many calories you would burn if you lay in bed all day.

That's two you can try.  The BMR one will be lower as it assumes you've also eaten no food.

Well, now I'm even more confused. Went to both links and entered EXACT same information and got entirely different numbers. UGH!!

I may have edited my post before you did it.  BMR will always be lower.  It doesn't take into account food digestion.  RMR assumes that you've eaten something so there's more calories as you burn a certain amount digesting food.  People tend to use BMR more often. They shouldn't be that far apart.  My BMR is 1966 and my RMR is 2290.  So, for me, if I did nothing (seriously nothing) all day I'd burn somewhere between those two numbers.

If I don't exercise, I burn around 2100 calories a day.  When I was obese, I burned close to 2700-3000 calories doing nothing.

So it is very possible you did burn 2000 calories.  We burn a ton just breathing, pumping blood, keep warm, etc...  And the more fat you have on you, the more calories it takes to feed those fat cells...
