The pool sounds like a great idea - very kind to joints, and fun. I have arthritis in my knees, and my shoulders are really stiff, so it takes me a long time to make progress on weights. I like it though.
I do need to do more cardio though. The Fitbit's been good for me as far as showing me that I'm not moving enough.

I just purchased my fitbit on July 4th and earned the 5,000 steps badge that same day!! WOW, it was such a motivation for me to see that come up on my dashboard when I synced for the first time! I love to walk and this will help me tremendously! I always take stairs when I can, park as far away as possible in the grocery store parking lot and, even if I only need a few items, I will go up and down every aisle in the store for additional movement! I try to look for ways to keep moving during the day even if it is only to keep me off my true enemy ~ THE CHAIR!

Dear Helena, I am 66, have a very busy life and find I take 5000 steps a day when I don't even leave the house. My office is in my home (the kitchen isn't but 20 or so steps away). In August I had surgery and tire out easily just doing the minimum. I quit keeping track of my food, because I have been eating processed food and frozen meals (Weight watcher or Lean Cusine mostly). Soon I'll be up and back on walking and eating right. I hope you are staying on a healthy path.

I turned 63 in August and I LOVE MY FITBIT - I have become quite the fitbit junkie - I still work full time and try and get over 15,000 steps per day - my goal is 10,000 but (as you find) a little more always makes you feel sooooooo good - I have rockmyrun for a 40 minute walk at night and have a hard time stopping walking when the music stops - I am inspired to keep moving - GOOD LUCK

Helena you need to come and join us at the Women over 60 site. When you are at your friend's list on the dashboard go to the ' topics' section and find us there. A more energetic and supportive bunch you have yet to find.
There are very few people right here. I dont understand why all the sites are not intergrated. Nevertheless right here on this board, where you are is no discussion. There are over 200 of us on that "Welcome woman of 60" board chatting away, offering support and of course advice etc etc and we'd love to have you join us too.
Marilyn

I am a women in my 70's who started using the fitbit flex a month ago. In the past 10 weeks, I have lost about 15 pounds, by following a healthy diet, between 950 and 1,000 calories a day. I can't do a lot of walking, because of a problem knee, but I do what I can, and I swim laps a half hour a day.
It is more difficult to lose weight when you are older, and don't have a lot to lose. I would like to lose another 20 pounds by Christmas, thus meeting my goal of 120 pounds. I take thyroid medication, because I have no thyroid, due to two surgeries, and 60 external beam radiation treatments, plus 350 millicurie of RAI, for complete removal of thyroid due to cancer.

Thank you for your concern! I believe I am eating quite healthy, much better than the junk I was eating previously. I have not lost much weight in 10+ weeks, so I can't be starving. Also, I don't feel hungry.
Yes, my doctor knows I am trying to lose weight, but I did not discuss the actual diet with him. When I get to my goal, I intend to increase a couple hundred calories a day. I take vitamin and calcium supplements daily.

Presently, I am using the fitbit flex, but that has to be charged, and I have so many things that have to be charged, camera, 3 tablets, GPS, it's getting to be a pain. I loved the zip, because it didn't need charging, and it's so cute!.

I'm 72 and have been using the Zip Fitbit for several months now. I keep a record of all my gym workouts and have found the Fitbit fails to recognize many of my steps. I get credit for a little more than half--very frustrating! But, my problem is getting it to sync. I've changed batteries when I know they shouldn't be dead and then it doesn't work on a new battery. If I can get it working, I'd like to have a circle of Fitbit Seniors to help keep me motivated.

Hi Helena. I'm 64 and have been using Fitbit for almost two years. It's great. How is it working for you?
