Hey dori, we're the same age. I fell off the wagon BIG TIME during the holidays. Now it's time for me to get back on track. I still have 50 lbs. to lose. I think of that as the equivalent to a large sack of dog food in excess weight I'm carrying around. Shedding that would enable me to move easier, have more energy, and feel so much better. I've got everything to gain by attaining this goal. This group is awesome for motivation. We can do this.

It is a really challenge to lost lots of weight but if you break it down to smaller goals, you will feel great & successful. All the little goals will pave the way to your final hurrah. 20 lbs is a major loss. WTG! Keep on steppin'. Gloria

Good advice about breaking it down to smaller goals.  It's not overwhelming then.  Every little bit helps.  Keep it up.

I think you have done wonderfully!  Keep it up!  I have 60 lbs to lose, I had already lost 22 lbs.  but ever since Thanksgiving, I gained back 10 lbs.  So I started up again.  I do the Leslie Sasone walking videos on youtube, most of them are free, and I am aiming for 3 fifteen minute videos, each one mile.  It is alot easier for me to do this at home, since I go to my mom and dad's to help them out, and also my husband has got neuropathy on both legs, and will soon need to give up driving, so I tend to stay with him alot as I worry about him and his legs giving out on him.  So, I got back on the workout, nutrition wagon but I am having a hard time giving up the snacking, I have cut it back quite a bit.  Do you count calories?

Keep up the good work, you will get there.

Hi cecig, Yes, I am currently counting calories and always get the naughty girl comments - you have eaten far too much today, go stepping some more! Horrid little Zip, all he does is hang around on my Bra and just computes stuff! I only became a Zip fan out of curiosity. Initially I thought it would be interesting to know just how many steps I actually did on a varying normal day. Life is never normal for us girls is it? At 75 trying to lose my goal of 10 kgs seems a remote possibility. I have been a 24 hour gym member for 3 years, previously I attended Curves which was fun but got to the boring point quickly and I have attended extra exercise classes, go swimming once a week, play golf then act like a normal wife and mother on call for whatever! The only think I could really come up with as to why I was overweight was that in fact in my beautifully slim years, I was young (ah), on my feet all day - ouch, and guess what - Walking. Golf of course involves lots of walking but I downgraded to only half a game of 9 holes. I didn’t seem to have the energy levels. Body not wishing to comply with my wishes I’m afraid, so I have been busy getting body into a better frame of mind. It’s in for a shock next week - golf is on the agenda. Providing it is not too wet, not too cold and not too hot. I am in Melbourne Australia and its bushfire season. I am not that keen on the heat so if its over 30C forget golf. You appear to be getting on with Zipping quite okay and if we all stick around together, we can beat these little monsters watching us! Stay fit and happy.

Age is truly a "state of mind" and I usually live in the state of whatever I feel, day to day! My goal is to become as healthy as possible no matter what age.

I just started using a Zip a little over 1 yr. ago, then got the Flex & purchased my new Charge one wk. ago. Whew, I get pooped out thinking about it.  Hopefully this will do for awhile.

It would be great to join some 60+ ladies, as my age is 68 and going/growing..lol..

My desire is to be the best that I can be, no matter what!! New year, new me!!

Great positive thinking.  I totally agree with you - age is how you feel.  Keep on stepping.

I too get the low mileage days! However, I usually find a way of upping the steps just a bit. Walk to a particular room more than once and back for no reason or instead of carrying multiple items in my hands to put away wherever, to simply do the one item at a time task. Great for a bad weather day. Has anyone tried walking or running around and around the dining table? I was once advised to get up every 10 mins. Thats a bit much I think, but to get up once an hour is not so bad and walk to a destination within the house that you think is the furthest. Takes no time at all and keeps the Fitbit happy. Keep moving.

whatever works to stack up mileage; wonder if others feel the same?  Inasmuch as I am fairly new to this FitBit I hope to "bond" with my new CHARGE!!!!

Any suggestions will be taken under consideration...lol...

C'mon girlfriends let's get this challenges/challenge!

Glad you got back on the wagon. Never give up. We all have the urge to fall off but then we jump back on the wagon & go for it. I count carbs as I am diabetic. Works for me. Also, have a hunger urge? Have a glass of water or your favourite cup of tea. Drown out that urge OR have some prepared veggies in the fridge. Grab some slices of green peppers or cucumbers. That will satisfy you. Good luck! Stay positive. You WILL get there. Off to a great start. Gloria

star47 ~ age is just a state of mind. You are who you are when you are & where you are. You are unique. I will be 66 BUT I do not look or act like a person who we typically expect should be. I challenge myself in many ways ~ nothing extreme but certainly attempt things that my Grandmother would never have done. LOL But then, I am not my Grandmother. I have lost 12 lbs in the past week & have set my goal for 40 more by my birthday. I have the sweetest little grand-daughter & another on the way. They will not out run me. I have too many hugs for them. So, forget the age ~ stay young at heart & in mind. You are right ~ New Year & New Me. Let's do it!!!!

I love putting on some great music & dancing around the house getting things done. I have also started vacuuming & washing floors more often. Not only is my house cleaner (LOL) but I am getting my steps in. Also, while taking down & putting Christmas decorations away, I have started my spring cleaning because when the spring comes ~ I will be outside in the sun & fresh air enjoying my steps & swimming. 🙂

my mind is of a different age to my body of that I am convinced even though the battery power is often low.    There is no warranty on that though so no free replacement.   The body though, well I see that as my handbag to carry me around in.   Stepping up will get the handbag looking much fresher which is all one can do.

Now we must discuss the challenge.   Where to start, for the day or the week?   How's about 6000 steps a day for the first week starting from 13th January?

Another way of getting some steps in is to get up during Commercials while watching TV and just walk in place or walk around until commercial is over.

You're so right.  Steps can add up during commercials (since there are so many.)   Every little bit helps.

I get up & clean the house, put things away, make the bed, start the dishwasher & /or wash machine, take out a load of clothes to fold, get my water, make tea, etc. I am always moving to not only get my steps in but get things done also. 🙂

Hi, thanks for the encouragement. I do count my calories. My Fitbit came to me for free from my health plan (Cigna) and I use it to track calories and steps. I aim for between 1200 and 1500 calories a day and 10,000 steps a day. We've had such a mild winter that I try to walk outside as much as possible. Soon I'll have to use my treadmill when it gets very cold. There is free  Zumba Gold class once a week at a senior center near my home and I try to get there for a change of pace. I try to eat vegetables and fruit everyday. I have trouble with snacks, especially candy.

Hi Dori, I find it quite surprising just how many steps we can take each day just around the home alone or home and garden. Every day is different. I only have 10kg to lose but perhaps with our hot summer now upon us, I will eat less. Snacks are a pain aren’t they. I have begun to down the number of crackers with a topping and find doing that say once a month - snails pace I know - and encouraging the other half to have dinner earlier is working. I get up regularly during the evenings in order to keep the blood flow circulating anyway. I do not wear the Zip all the time. Just when I am ready to start my day and remove it once I have synced in the evening. I have a rough idea of just how many steps are done before and after Zip joins in my day. Theres always a moment to step up. I love the Jim Rohn line “Look after your body, it’s the only place you have to live”.
