Just wondering if there are any older women trying the Fitbit, I am 70 and just started.

Looking to see if anyone else my age is trying the fitbit to lose weight, I am 70 but I do workout with a personal trainer and take Yoga.

Good evening everyone,

Well, so two weeks in, and I feel a little less bloated, my 1x jeans fit so much better.  I have been doing the Leslie Sansone videos on youtube and am quite pleased.  I am trying to stay within the 1300 calories that the nutrtionist set for me.  I am back to eating my veggies and fruit, but do splurge on Saturday when the hubs and I go to dinner and then church.  Let's do this friends!  We can do it!

Wow Cecig, That's really good.   Its great when clothes begin to fit better.  As for Splurging - that's allowed!   I haven't lost weight for such a long time although half a kilo has gone missing this week,  but my shape has changed through exercising.  One step at a time.

I do not think I have lost alot, but my system seems to be working so much better, and I don't feel so bloated.  We have traveled quite a bit since late August, and we flew so much, so I know all that affected my system.  We had very little time at home, but now we have settled down.  My husband had ruptured little veins, the dr. said it was due to the aspirin he takes for blood thinner, so we both felt the stress of the travel.  I was going to a nutrtionist, but I would get so stressed out just anticipating how she was going to tell me that I should be losing more weight, so I stopped going.  I am just going to do the best I can on my own.  At my age, I don't need that.  I like coming here for support, because it just seems so real.  The nutritionist would scold me and tell me that my husband and my parents would benefit from the healthy eating plan I was on, but that is easier said than done.  My parents are in their 80s and for them is quality of life now, and they don't overdo it anyways.  My husband has his own way, I cannot force him to eat how I am eating.  I feel at ease with this group, hang in there!  Today is going to be a good day.

We can only do the best we can each day and then it begins to show...one day at a time. Make today great!

cecig ~ You sound so depressed & down. Don't be. This is a great support group. They will keep you up. I also joined the Dr Oz Day-off Diet. It is great! Simple & easy to follow. I joined the group on Facebook. They are also a very supportive group offering all sorts of recipes & very positive comments. Everyone is in the same boat. You are not alone. Pick up those socks & move on. I know how you feel going to see your nutritionist. I feel defeated before I even get in the door but now I know I am doing the best that I can & that works for me. So, as I heard last night at a seminar, 'Drop it, Leave it & Move on'. There is no doubt that you can do it. But these negative comments & situations you are going thro' are holding you back; so, YOU WILL DO IT. Take a look at the Dr. Oz diet. It is a lifestyle change that both you and your husband can handle. That with your fitbit will help you reach your goals & YOU WILL! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the encouragement!  I am better now, I walked away the pounds with Leslie after I posted, went to the groceries and came home and had a wonderful broccolini, kale and brussel sprout salad!  Had a fantastic conversation with an old and dear friend.

Yes, just drop it and leave it!

I'm 80 and I just changed over to a stationary bike because the treadmill was causing the arthritis in my ankle to flare up.  I don't workout with a trainer or do Yoga but I do go to weight watchers and while I'm slower than most people, I won't give up.  I figure with time I'll build up some speed and endurance.  I do have a question, when I log my time into the Dashboard, it converts the minutes to fat burning minutes.  For example, 20 min. of pedaling got converted to 111 fat burning minutes.  Can anyone explain this to me?

Good for your mother.  I agree with her.  Age is just a number.

I will be 62 in March. I have 12 kilos to lose. I haven't been able to exercise for 6 months due to medication/treatment which finished January/1/2016. So I'm back into the walking. I am on Thyroxine for hypothyroidism, which is only mild. I have noticed as I've got older it's harder to lose, not impossible though. So keeping positive!

Good morning Anne 54! Congratulations upon finishing your treatment/medication. I completely know how medications can adversely affect your metabolism & your desire to “kick it into gear” once again with your walking or exercising. I have jokingly said that I never imagined that I would be taking as many pills as I am old…lol….

Please know that no matter what the obstacles, physical or otherwise, the only thing standing in your way will be YOU.. however, having a solid support system, i.e., family friends and FitBit buddies are totally necessary and a blessing!

Is this discussion still active?  I do not see any recent posts.  I hope not, it is a good subject for me. I am just starting out with the Fitbit HR and love it. It is just what I need to help shed some weight I've gained. I am 68 and find the challenges to be motivating and fun.  I am also on Weight Watcher's.

Hi LindaSw! Just read  your message and this subject will always be active as far as I am concerned.

No doubt, at our age, the weight is far more difficult to get rid of.  I think that one of the most challenging issues is to stay as motivated as when we first began this journey.

For me, I need a lot of encouragement (sometimes more than usual) and that's where I seem to be right now.  So, in the process of getting back in the "groove" as my precious little Sassy just passed away unexpectedly & my heart hurts so badly right now.

So, I need help with my motivation; perhaps this sounds silly to many but this is just the way it is and I need some "cheerleading".....a lot!

Thanks so much, Star47

Been there for a while.  Don't know if it as active as it was. I have had my fit bit for about a year.  Love it. Also on weight watchers. If you need some motivation I am around.  It makes it fun. I join challenges too to keep you motivated. 😆

So sorry about your loss.  We have pets that are dear to us too.  This is my first week, but I am  really motivated to lose the extra fat I have accumulated in the past year.  I quit smoking a year and a half ago and then my doctor had put me on a steroid for neck pain.  Those two things made me pack on the pounds.  Before I my goal was only 15 pounds, now I am looking at around 50 to lose.

Will be 75 soon - and still check my steps on Fitbit each day. Have had
some setbacks this winter - knee problems and could not walk for several
months - but am back to trying - and joined an "old ladies" sitting
exercise class which meets 2x per week - also belong to TOPS (like Wt
Watchers, but non-profit). Have just found a weird way to stop my after
dinner eating. I put tiny heart decals on my 2 pointer fingers and covered
with clear polish. So I see the heart when I want to reach for food.
Decal reminds me to take care of my heart!
It is working so far - should have at least a 3lb loss at TOPS weigh-in
this coming week.
It Is not easy to lose with health problems and slower metabolism - but we
can do it!!!

Well done getting back into it. I'm back up to 10,000 plus steps a day, so getting there. Even if I only lose a small amount of weight, would like to lose 5 kilos, the walking will keep me fit, so it is a good thing.

Hi Linda, I'm Sandy and in Oregon. I'm 69, 70 in August and looking for someone my age to work with. My good friend is only 49 so she out does me by leaps and bounds but it's still fun. I have some medical issues so can't do some things but I still give it a try. Sandy
