Just wondering if there are any older women trying the Fitbit, I am 70 and just started.

Looking to see if anyone else my age is trying the fitbit to lose weight, I am 70 but I do workout with a personal trainer and take Yoga.

Aloha from Hawaii! I am a 58 year old, mobility challenged (I have nerve
damage in both hips, legs and feet stemming from a benign tumor growing in
and around my lower spinal column,) wife, mom, grandma and artist. I am
using the Fitbit to motivate me to move more and walk more. Walking is
often painful and yet I need to get back to a semblance of normalcy and
that includes being able to walk and also to stand in place. Anyway,
unless I am in the shower, or doing dishes (or water aerobics,) I wear the
Fitbit Charge HR (or unless it is charging--and my battery doesn't last
quite as long as Fitbit has suggested it would between charges!

My daily goal right now is set at 4500 steps. I make qwwwq. ,? Hmy goals

Until you have tried water aerobics, I think it is difficult to "get" what an all encompassing whole body workout it actually is! When I swim, I can walk well. When I do not swim, can only waddle and struggle physically to move well!

Absolutely! Swimming or just walking in the pool is the best all over exercise your body enjoys. Can hardly wait till the pool is warm enough to get into. Have a new puppy who can hardly wait to get in also so she will be encouraging me to get in there.

Good for you..that is quite impressive for 71 yrs. young!  My belief is that regardless of how little one does, it is the movement that is key to better health, along with eating good food.

I will be 70 yrs. young in August and intend to out-do my progress thus far; just remember to listen to your body and far you can push yourself.  I have several health issues at once, but now I can set goals to improve, one step at a time....literally!

Be proud of what you have and will accomplish down the road...don't focus on what is in the past, look at NOW!!

Best to you, Star

I'm 64 in July and I have been put through the menopause wringer. Along with meno came hypothyroidism, so I took gold in the weight-gain Olympics. Finally, my hormones are no longer savaging my weight-loss efforts, and I am trimming down, but it is tough. I am 5'6" and my current weight is (finally) at 130 lbs. It has been hard work, but I am combining getting in 10,000 - 12,000 steps per day, climbing a minimum of 10 flights of stairs, and working out for thirty minutes every day with strength, cardio, and ab DVD's. I am using Autumn Calabrese's 21-Day Fix, and yes, it kills. She is brutal. As energetic as I think I am, I find myself doing quite a few of the easier modifications in the cardio segments. Strength and abs, I am fine. But her cardio is tough. Even her yoga and Pilates make you sweat. The eating plan is excellent. It is all down to portion control and giving up processed foods, sugary junk, and alcohol (temporarily. I don't give up my Martinis or wine permanently for ANYONE). And the only reason I am doing this program is because my daughter wanted to do it. It helps to have a buddy. She lives with us, so we plan the meals together and though our workout schedules are not in sync, we have managed to share the DVD's easily enough. I did not think, at this age, that I would see this number on the scale again, but it is working. The trick is keeping it off. I hope I am up to THAT challenge when Round 2 of this plan is over.

Good job for you! I’m doing some videos also and some are tough but I’m trying to work my up so I can do more. I had a brain aneurysm and stroke 2 years ago so some of the balance things I can’t do but do what I can. Looking to add people to my fitbit as it’s more fun to have people with you. Sandy

That is so awesome, CynC. I will be 64 in September, so we're pretty much the same age. We're also the same height. You have achieved the weight goal I want to reach. I'm heading that way, but not fast enough to suit me. The treadmill broke last week and it has been raining so I haven't been outside to walk much. Think I'll look into that 21-Day Fix video. Good luck on Round 2.

Aloha, Maryruth. I used to live at Aiea on Oahu. Loved it there! I have not done water aerobics, but some of my friends swear by it. Fitbit is a great motivator. It lets you know where you stand and helps keep you on track for where you want to be. Best of luck to you. Hope you will stay in touch.

Good for you, Monika. Stay after it! I was unable to walk after a truck ran over the car in which I was riding. After that experience, I am thankful to be getting back in shape. I love walking on the trail near my home and I am looking around for a good bike. Can't decide if I want a road bike or one more suited for the dirt trail where I often walk. I am thinking, since we don't have bike lanes where I live, the dirt trail might be safer. And at 63 years young, I probably won't be doing any cross-country biking, and I certainly don't want another truck running over me.

Hello,  I'm going to be 68 in a couple of weeks.  Still working part-time in an office organising classical music concerts in London. Hobbies are sedentary, sadly: cross stitch and toy theatres.

Have some arthritis in spine and hips but not too bad.  Had a fall recently that seemed to make things a bit worse.  However I'm getting back to walking, and can do 7,000 steps minimum a day and on good days up to 10,000.  I reckon that's not bad for someone my age.  Need to lose around 20lbs.  The less weight on those hips the better!  If I lose that I'll also be out of the "danger zone" as regards my height/weight ratio.  That's my aim.  Should improve my health in all sorts of ways.

Using fitbit Surge to check calorie intake, and trying to keep within the limits.  It's a great motivator.

Wish me luck!

Hi. Good luck to you on your efforts to lose weight. I am 80 years old and have arthritis in my ankle so walking is difficult. I bought a stationary bike and do 30 min. 5-6 days a week for 5.2 miles. Unfortunately, 10000 steps would aggravate my ankle. I ave managed 5000 with no problem and the bike. Hopefully, I can increase that over time. Have lost 16 lbs. so far and am encouraged.
