I feel like 35 mentally but physically I feel like 65 some days, 75 other days, and then my actual age some other days...and I am 55. Have gained an extra 20 lbs on top of my already gained weight, in the last 2 years from stress and issues with my kids. I was dx with Fibromylgia 10 years ago and also have mild Hypothyrodism/ hashimotos. Added weight just makes my bones and joints hurt even more. Closets are full of clothes that don't fit anymore. I'm 5'4 and 181 lb, down from my heaviest at 185lb. Long long way to go and the scale moves ever so slowly! Started about 2 months ago to watch my diet. I'm struggling to work out because of my joint issues, with making time for me, and learning to not overeat out of boredom, habit or when feeling down. Most days I track my food and steps here on the fitbit app. Definitely helps to track and be aware. Few months ago I could hardly walk much and just managed to get to and from work using public transportation in NYC. Currently my step goal is 5500 steps, which I try to hit by the time I get home from work. Need to stay motivated!

Ha ha! I thought when I hit reply next to someone's post, my response would go below that persons post. I was on page 43 and was inspired to read someone who is 80 and going strong. I'm so glad to have found this page. Some here are a little more in age than me but I feel so inspired to be reading everyone's stories, makes me want to not complain and stay the course 🙂

We try to do the best we can. Anything that keeps up moving is good. Keep up the good work.

Hi, I am new to this FitBit thing. I just turned 64 and need to lose 10lb. I also just retired from my
desk job and am now walking dogs to make some spare cash. I also love dogs and love walking so its a win, win job !! I don't seem to be dropping any weight yet. My appetite has decreased somewhat but the scale is not moving !

Sometimes it takes a while for the weight loss to show up, @IBH, because when you first start exercising you start building muscle mass, which weighs more than fat that is being burned. Suddenly, though, things will equal out and the weight loss will show up. And, 10 pounds isn't very much to lose, so it won't take long.

Thanks very much.Larry...I needed to hear that. I thought you lost the weight and then the muscles started to build slowly. Thanks for correcting me. I feel better now !!

69 here, just trying to move more (triple bypass in past, more from genetics than lifestyle.) Walking the dog and tending garden isn't enough movement to counteract fibromyalgia. New to fitbit and still trying to work out the settings.

Stretching and some simple basic yoga moves help with Fibro I've noticed, warm tub soaks with Epsom salt and few drops of euclyptus oil, staying warm and not turning the AC too high in summer, and no sudden temperature exposures to cold in winter time, keep moving even if little, go to sleep on time - all these little precautions help me with my Fibro & arthritis that's starting to creep up more and more too now. I've recently set up a few alarms on my fitbit through the day to help me to remember to get up from my desk at work and walk a little. I also try to sneak in a few stretches couple of times during the day at work. Try to get out for a 15-20 minute walk at lunch time. Every little bit helps. Whenever I stop following my own advise, I suffer and notice the difference. I like what someone advised above - start slow and do whatever one can - slow and steady wins the race. I may not be losing major weight but just feeling lesser pain makes me want to move more and eventually I hope will take me to a better place 🙂

@PKK Thanks for the advice. I'm 58 and have Fibro, arthritis, and also heart failure. I ache at night and when I try to do too much, I can't breathe. So need to be slow and steady and Cardiologist wants me to go slow. I guess it's due to the heart only working on to a certain capacity. But I'm aiming to win this race. I need to lose at least 100 lbs. But for now I'm hoping for 10 at a time. Maybe I'll put my fitbit on a timer to remind me to move my butt. lol

Had a bit of a setback in my stepping schedule when I came down with a cold and chest cough. Need to get back into my routine again, but finding it hard to do. I was doing 10,000 steps a day and was at 6 weeks straight without missing a day until I became sick.

Just remember the story about the tortoise and the hare! I always thought I had to be an Olympian from the get go. My get go got up and went right away. I was always in so much pain and I thought it was because of the fibro. Instead it was because I bit off more than I could chew. I think you're going to do just fine with your exercise as long as you remember to ease into it and just add a teeny bit at a time until you feel comfortable with moving to the next level. Good luck to you. You can do this!

well I'm 63 so I must qualify. Just got my fitbit charge and I feel happy with it - I've got a sedentary job (receptionist) so I'm tied to my desk. Hoping this will motivate me to move more. Wish I'd splurged more and bought the charge HR though.

Hi Ruby, I had my second knee replacement last October and then ended back in hospital with congenital heart failure which turned into AFIB. I had cardioversion last month and so far - touch wood - my heart rate is normal so it's time to start walking.
