Any adult ladies looking to lose a moderate amount of weight and get ultra-fit, ultra-slim? I am, and I'd love some fitness friends!
Especially eager to link up with any adult buddies with an intermediate knowledge of health/fitness and a strong desire for a hard & lean body (30+ females preferred, since young people and dudely types are biologically geared to lose weight with much greater than us). Knowledge of your BMR or TDEE is the 1st step really for losing weight, so if you know yours or know you need to know yours, let's encourage one another to beat that daily cals in/cals out ratio!
I'm fighting the usual battle of the bulge past 30, but I was never particularly svelte to begin with. I've been on and off with running for the past couple of years and eager to work my way up to a 10k or a 1/2 marathon. My mile numbers are crap: I average a 13 minute mile per my performance at the Laurel Hill Cemetery 5k. I might as well be walking! But I'm confident it'll get better. May of next year is my goal for a 10k, and I'm hoping to do it in under an hour. "Remember, Violet: Confidence is key!"
I've got a BMI of about 27 and am eager to get down to 20, 21, 22, but that's going to be ultra difficult for me, as I'm pretty solidly & stoutly built. Really eager to get a session in a bodpod or Dexascan, but the 2-hour trip all the way up to north jersey is a b!tch, so for now I go by calipers to calc my BF of 30% (super sad face 😞 (also, if anyone knows of any good BF scanners in the greater philadelphia area, please do enlighten me).
Per my activity records I've been inactive for quite a bit. But after a severe depressive bout the past couple of months, I'm back in action, so I'm going to the gym 4-5 days per week again for 2 weight training sessions and whatever "Body Bootcamp" or "Body Works" classes are available. Also trying to run at the end of each session--just a mile to work on my time. FARTLEKS!
So what do you do to get skinny? Wanna join forces on MFP to nudge each other towards our fitness goals? I'm Knoxvilla5 on MFP (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/knoxvilla5) and always eager to have someone to join forces with!
Let's do it!

Hi I just got my fitbit and want to start getting in shape. I am mid 60s and have not exercised for quite a while. I need to lose about 20 pounds and get back to some activity. Would love to be Fitbit buddies.

I'm 33 years old. I've been working on losing weight for the past year. I'm about halfway to goal with 30lbs to go.
I've been on Lose It since September 2015, and used a cheaper pedometer up until recently, when I upgraded to my fitbit.
This past month I've started training for a 10K in early May. I'm currently on Week 4, Day 2 of Couch to 5K with a sluggish average pace of 14:33 minutes per mile. I'll worry about speed once I finish the program. I've also been trying to get back into the gym habit. My eating habits have slid a bit since Thanksgiving ( two weeks ago - I'm Canadian), but I did manage to get to the gym even when my usual gym partner had to bow out, so I'm proud of myself for that.

I just got my FitBit last week and want to lose 20 pounds. I'm in! Just not sure if I should to a 500 or a 750 deficit....what is everyone doing?

Wohlvo: I'm using a 500 calorie deficit. Any more and the budget becomes too close to my BMR. You should aim for something that puts you in that 'sweet spot', above your BMR and below your TDEE.
You can calculate your BMR here: http://www.fat2fittools.com/tools/bmr/

I'm 48 and just began my fitness journey. Well, I was active last year but fell out of the habit. I'm trying not to do that again. I'm eating less (usually) and exercising more. I do a 15-minute fitness walking video every morning before I go to work. I make excuses to walk--a lot--to try to burn calories. I've lost about 10 pounds since the beginning of June, which is a slow weight loss, I know, but I'll take progress as it comes. My BMR is about 1,332 calories (I'm short). I usually manage to burn 500 to 600 more calories with activity.
BMI is not always an accurate indicator of health, as someone can be very healthy, very muscular, and have a high BMI. But I am finally in the overweight instead of the obese category, so I guess that's good.

Now you need to pick a deficit that will keep you above 1455 calories, but is below what fitbit says your total calorie burn is.
For example, my BMR is 1639, my average daily burn is 2350 calories. I'm using a 500 calorie deficit, so my daily budget is about 1850. The 750 calorie setting would bring me down to 1600 calories per day, which is below my BMR, so it's not enough food.
