Today was a lazy day for me. I set off to walk, and within a couple of blocks my feet felt really weird and uncomfortable. It was as if I had no blood flow to my feet. I am 60, and 100 lbs. overweight... but I was able to do over 10,000 steps more than once, recently. Today, I had a hard time getting over 4000, and it was becuase I paid attention and respected my body when it complained. I tried tying my shoes more loose. I tried changing socks. I tried drinking water and taking a break. When I tried to walk again after re-hydrating and relacing my shoes, I STILL had a problem with my feet/ankles aching and going numb, even though I walked slow. WTH!? I am fearful about what it means.

It likely means go less frequent and shorter time so you can still do it often enough.
If this is all a new level to you, it will take time. And don't think taking advantage of a feel good day is useful, if it knocks you off your feet for 2 more days.
4 days of 15 min each is better than 1 day of 60 min and hurting for 3 days after unable to do anything.

You might want to check with your doctor about any numbness in your feet. It could be physical stress on the tissue, but it might be a symptom of another underlying medical condition. Better to set your mind at ease by seeing your primary physician. Hope it gets better soon!

Haybales,
Thanks, that's a great idea.
Since adding a few friends on Fitbit a couple weeks ago,I find myself in healthy competition with them. This has prompted me to really push to do 10K steps a day. Problem is, my feet are really sore. Don't get me wrong, I have tried to do 10K steps everyday for the last 3 months, but I find I average only about 5 days a week doing it, that is until my "friends" push me to do more. I really like that, but my feet aren't keeping up with my motivation.
Putting on a extra 10 miles a week has been tough on my feet. I wear good shoes (Brooks) and buy a new pair every year and rotate between two pairs, yet my feet are really quite sore. I started walking at lunch for an hour as fast as I can on the concrete sidewalks. I really like that workout and with the weather being so hot lately, it has felt great to sweat.
I could go walk on a treadmill at lunch, but it takes time to get back and forth to the gym, even though it's 5 minutes away.
Anyway, think this idea of more frequent walks is a good one. It's harder to fit in a work day though, so don't know how I am going to be able to accomplish that.
If anyone has any great ideas about what they do so feet aren't so sore would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I found starting out that my feet felt the same way, and I still get a little footsore on days when I push past 15,000 steps. I think starting off a little slower works best, so five days a week to start seems reasonable to me if you're just starting out on your walking journey. I have a friend who started out with short walks and has now graduated to running. Not fast, and not all the time, but she's making progress a little more every day.
