hi There
Canadian Gal here new to Fit Bit ! Since most of my friends do not own a FitBit, I thought I would reach out to the community here and see about finding some buddies!
A little about me ; I have been struggling with my weight most of my Adult life (I just turned the big 40) and decided this year would be MY year! I am happily married (no kids but cats!) work fulltime as an EA for Parks Canada and really enjoy being busy. I eat Clean food (mostly and as much as possible) and cook all the meals eaten in my home for my hubby and I from scratch. I love entertaining and we often have friends over for board game nights, eating and laughing, watching movies, working on our jeeps . My husband and I helped start the PEI JeepClub here on PEI, and we are quite involved in Jeeping, being outdoors and camping. We love living life and are looking forward to another cruise for our 10th Wedding anniversary in a few years!
I am looking for others who would like to either start a group or just add me as a buddie. let's cheer each other one, exchange recipes and help each other out on our path to loose the weight and get healthier !
Happy in PEI, Canada
Dee.

Hi,
I'm trying to get back in shape as well, and want to be back to normal BMI by end of next year hopefully. Trying to do the gradual walk 10 - 12000 steps a day thing and am looking for people to compare stats/compete with to keep me motivated. I live in Ontario as well and the -40 winter nights really put a damper on things =(.
Add me as a friend if you want:

I'm looking to lose over 80 pounds (goal was 100 pounds at the start in late January). I could use some weight loss buddies to keep me motivated and accountable. I am hitting 40 years old next year, and need to lose enough weight before then to be able to do a tandem skydive, if I don't chicken out before then. At this point I am too heavy for regulations and we were unable to do so for my husband's 40th. I'd also like to be healthier and look better. Weight has been a lifetime struggle for me. I am currently using my FitBit Charge HR with MyFitnessPal (has a larger library of food than FitBit).
My current strategies are drinking more water, cutting out soda (haven't had any in over a month), keeping track of everything I eat (everything, no matter how small), and using the FitBit to push me to walk and exercise more. So far it's working, but the chilly evenings make it difficult to walk outside after work and I sometimes lose motivation after a long day.
Any tips?

Hi Dee
Welcome. There is a group of us doing the Mother's Day Challenge. Go to discussion and enter mother's day 2015. Since this day is mid May we have 10 more weeks. Most of us are planning to lose 1 lb a week by eating 500 fewer calories than we burn as it takes 3500 calories burned to lose a pound. Sorry I'm in California, USA and not conversant in kilograms.
People are supportive and we are cheering each other on. Most of us aim for 10k a day but if you are more active then all the better. The most useful thing about the Charge HR is that I am logging my food and wow my eyes are opening. I eat healthy food but was not aware of the 190 Calories in just a 1/4 cup of plain walnuts and a little less in almonds. So now I've logged for 34 days and lost 5 lbs. as I watch the dashboard to make sure I burn at least 500-900 calories more than I eat. So lots of activity burned off the fat and tones the muscles.
One craveat is that the fitbit adds steps when driving as you bounce along so beware.
All the best to you,

My name is Heather and I'm new to fit bit but certainly not new to trying to lose weight...most of my adult life in fact. I just turned 52, and cut back teaching pre-school from 5 days a week to 2, so that I can babysit my grandson 3 days a week. I couldn't be happier with every aspect of my life...except my weight. I currently weigh 222 lbs as a result of a wonderful husband who loves me unconditionally and told me just to accept myself as I am. I can't . I eat very healthy, ironically, but I do love to eat. I usually have a kale, carrot, spinach, fruit protein powder smoothie every morning thanks to my ninja blender. We also love to cook and entertain, bike ride, and do lots of walking. I'm hoping that fit bit will shed some light on what I'm doing wrong.
I love helping others succeed and thrive so hopefully I can do that for someone here, and in the process take care of me too.

I'm new at this so I'm not sure if I'm responding to one person or the whole community. Please let me know if I "break the rules." I'm naturallycourteous and considerate though, and I want to learn how to do this properly, so that I can help others.
My current challenge is to shut off my grazing brain. I like to eat even if I'm not hungry. I'm a super healthy eater, I just have to control the brain cravings. I think my weight issues may also be based on age and hormones. I walk a lot, in fact, trained for and did a half marathon...but never lost a single pound or inch. 😞 I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions. Thanks for your time.
Heather

I get confused too. I'm a little wary of these open forums, but if you would like a fitbit pal you can find me here.

That's an awesome goal to work towards! I'm pretty terrified of heights. Seriously. I forced myself to walk up the Astoria tower (not that high), and I clung to the center building the whole time. I could not get my heart rate down.
How do you like the fitbit hr? I'm thinking of getting one to monitor my heart rate.
For when you don't want to go outside, you can always walk in place. I tend to do that when watching tv, unless work has left me absolutely zonked. I also walk in place throughout the day instead of standing still. It really adds up!

Hi Dionysiusa and everyone else -
I am also looking for friends to keep me motivated. I have 100+ pounds to lose. Just got my Fitbit on January 28th and my current goals are 15K per day on weekdays and 10K per day on weekends. Comparing myself to others is a huge motivator for me because I see others moving and question why I am not also moving.
Add me and if I can figure out how to add others, you'll see a quest from me.

Get a Treadmill. Use if just for inside walking. Good thing you gave up Sodas. The soda companies are getting nervous because sales of all sodas are dropping, People are worried about the Artificial Sweetners in them and because of the four tablespoons of sugar in the regular brands. Also, they have chemicals that are very toxic. I gave Sodas up in November 2013. I also gave up Chips and Sugary Foods. So far I have lost about 50 pounds since December last year. Feel free to add me to your list of Friends.
