Loosing weight to so i dont get diabetes on top of everything else

Since my dad died last May (2022) from diabetes related problems I have been keeping an eye on my sugar levels. I started this year at 212lbs and was slowly losing weight 17lbs up until the middle of May. My sugar levels were slowly getting higher putting me at high risk of developing diabetes. So I decided to take proper action, I am 48 and have many health problems with mobility and pain been my biggest issues. I got a fitbit on the 14th of May (194lbs) and started a 1000 calorie deficit diet. My watch is set to sedatory so my calorie intake is different daily. I have just weighed in today and after 38 days I have lost 13.5lbs bringing my total weight loss to 31lb so far this year. My blood sugars are starting to look better as well. My bmi was 35.4 at the start of the year its now 30.2. Anyone had success keeping diabetes at bay through diet.

Hi & welcome @Lu48

Congratulations on you reducing your weight & BMI! That's an awesome achievement. Your doctor must be very happy with what you've accomplished so far.

I understand that with your mobility & pain issues, activity is a real challenge. You might want to check out the SeniorShape Fitness YouTube channel. Lauren, the instructor, has all different kinds of workouts including seated ones. Perhaps there are some of her workouts that you could do. Click here to see her current playlist: Seated workouts

We look forward to hearing about your continued progress.

Thank you I am amazed I have been able to do it and thank you for the workout ideas. I will have a look at them. I am due at the Dr's next week for blood work etc so it will be interesting to see what they think of my progress so far. I am been fitted for a knee brace next month one that relieves the pressure through the joint as one of my knees has been destroyed by arthritis. Hopefully with that and the continued weightloss my pain will reduce some. I know because of my health issues I will never get my mobility back and will always be in pain but hopefully less weight will help a little with both.

Hi @Lu48

Please feel free to use this thread to provide updates on your progress, especially after your next blood work. Sharing your progress can help inspire others.

I can empathize about one's knees & arthritis, as I deal with that myself. Here's hoping that the brace and your continued weight reduction will help.

Take care & keep up the great work!
