Lose 5 in July Challenge

I am a school teacher and most of my vacation time is in July--and this makes it SO hard to keep on track with my eating. I'm looking for some others that would like to stay motivated through the month of July and reach a goal of losing at least 5 lbs. I do a mix of cardio and strength training faithfullty, eating clean and drinking enough water being my biggest challenges.

If you'd like to join me--please reply. Let's start of the new month right!

Morning Everyone! So far I've been very diligent with sleep & food tracking
but my steps are lacking. I'm covering for someone on Maternity leave and
her duties are mostly administrative. Any ideas for getting my step count
up, especially when I'm in meetings or doing paperwork?
Thanks!

I'm back! I'm back! I was gone all weekend to our daughters in Ann Arbor. I made some good food choices and some not so great choices--but had planned a head for this and the specific meals and restuarants I knew we were going to--sometimes, even if you know something is coming up where you won't eat clean--it's good to do some thinking about it beforehand--it helped me not go all out crazy and today I am back on track--that was my thinking all weekend, "Monday--take off running!" So important not to let things snowball!

I'm upping my protein and trying to limit my good carbs to the earlier hours of the day--I am working on building some muscle to shape things up--plus, muscle burns fat--and that's good stuff. I used to feel pretty silly being in my 40s and lifting weights---not anymore. What I've learned is that just losing a couple pounds while buildling muscle is a lot diffrent than losing it without the muscle gain. Before I had to lose 10 lbs. to go down a pant size, with strength training I can lose 3-4 lbs. and lose a pants size--it just reshapes us differently than just losing the weight.

Have a great day ladies--we've got this--I haven't yet decided when I'm going to weigh to check my progress--sometimes it deters me so I think I'll just keep plugging away. Also--heading off to Meijer today for some good food choices for the fridge--it's 30  min. away, but the food choices are so much better than our local stores. 🙂

I am back too!  We have been gone since the 3rd and I made food choices that were about 50/50 but my steps and activity were NOT where they normally would be so I feel like I need to play catch up as far as that goes!  I was happy to see the scale drop almost a pound though :).  The rest of this week is all about getting my activity back up!

I also wondered if anyone is having any luck with the new update to the fitbit program? My understanding is that we should be able to track our walking/running routes but I don't have a clue where to find this....anyone know?

Hi kj223! To track walks/runs, once you've updated the fitbit app, look on the dashboard for a stopwatch icon. It will say "no exercise today" next to it. If you tap on it, you will see a calendar of how frequently you exercise. At the top right corner there is another stopwatch icon, tap that and you will get to the screen to track your run.

I used it yesterday to track how long it will take me to walk to work when school starts next month. It's pretty cool. It kept track of my time, distance and how many steps. By walking to and from work, I'll be able to log 5,000 steps!

Hope this helps!

Oh man--looks like I have to update my app---I've just been using my Runstastic app.

Today I ran 4 and am paying the price--my right heel is killing me. Luckily I have my bike on a trainer and my rebounder to keep my cardio going while it heals. May even get to the pool. Here's the positive side of today's run:

In January, almost 30 lbs. ago, I couldn't run 1/8 of  mile without getting winded and have to stop--today, my breathing was easy and I went the whole 4 miles without getting winded. This is HUGE! Poorf that you really can build up your enduranc and cardiovasuclar health. I'm pretty geeked about this. Smiley Tongue

Echo....yes!  That worked.  Thank you SO much.  I have used it for my runs the past two nights and it is a great tool.

I have been doing well with steps and exercise but still really have to work on the water.  That is my goal for today!  How is everyone else doing?

Well--I really messed up my right heel running on Wednesday--I've been taking Advil and icing it, but it's still puffy and oh, so sore! I'm giving it the weekend to see if it improves, if not--off to the podiatrist.

IN THE MEAN TIME...

I have been getting mys steps in on my rebounder and my bike is on a trainer in my workout room so I have ways to get my heartrate up. Thank-goodness. I lost one pound this week--so four to go. I've been eating my carbs in the morning after my workout and sticking to meat/fish/veggies for most of the afternoon and evening. Tomorrow is what we call "Free Day" at our house. I mention it here not to deter anyone, but just to talk about what works for us. We eat clean and workout 6 days a week, and on one day we rest our bodies and eat those things we've been wanting. Very quickly we learned that we can't go all out crazy with the food because...well...let's just say our bodies rebel in a HUGE way!   We have a grad party to go to and it will be nice to partake of some of the goodies. I've lost 100 lbs. since my heaviest, and for the last 7 years I've always taken a free day.

Have a great weekend everyone---keep movin!!!!!

Okay so I've been fitbitting for 12 days and today is the first day I've met my activity minutes and calories burned goal! I'm hoping to make it my first 10k step day too!

Hello Everyone... It's been a while since I've been on, it's been super crazy since I went back to work which I guess is a good thing because it really helps me to get all of my steps in. I ended up giving my husband my fitbit since I got my flex and now we go for walks every night, no matter how crazy the day was. I think that after doing this for a little over a week with me he is starting to enjoy it. We went for our normal 4 mile walk this morning but then he said that he wanted to go somewhere else so we kept walking and we ended up walking almost 7 miles. That was a proud moment for me because I never really thought that he would do that with me Smiley Very Happy. Today I got in more steps than I think I have... Even though we walked this morning I ended up taking the dogs for a 3 mile walk this evening and I really don't feel bad at all. Tomorrow will be a really bad day for my step count because I have to be stuck in one place for eight hours and can't go anywhere due to work. I've been really good lately with the calorie intake and watching what I eat, the only thing that I am still bad about is the water...

How is everyone else doing? Good I hope.

P.S.- Does anyone have any good juices ideas that I can use for in the morning after I do PT? I'm thinking about starting juicing for a while. If anyone has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.

Have a good day/ night everyone Smiley Happy

Okay so barely a loss this week so I'm packing my lunch for work since the dietician leaves before I get there and I obviously have been not guessing the cafeteria food info correctly. 😉

Here's to a better week!
