Maintain your weight during the Holidays!

weight.jpgFor me, pretty much the best month! Yay! I've been waiting for this all year! You know, it is the perfect time to share with friends, family, coworkers, etc., and by sharing I mean, we eat and drink... A lot! And I understand that is very hard to keep a balance because no matter where you go, parties and delicious meals are everywhere, but is awesome, I mean it's Christmas time! Well, I have some tips that I've tried and worked perfectly for me and that I would like to share with you to avoid gaining weight at this time.

1. Never Arrive Hungry.

Try not going to a party when you're starving, 'cause going hungry is setting yourself up to eat a lot of potentially non healthy foods. You can have a nutritious snack beforehand. Something else that I try, when I arrive hungry, is that I drink some water to fill up before filling my plate hehe.

2. Divert Your Attention.
Many people forget that there's more to a holiday party than food. When I hear "party" is like, food and beverages, which is essential of course, but we have to try not to look the party as just as a "food event".

holidays.jpg3. Pick up wisely.

When dinner is served buffet-style, use the smallest plate available. Normally I go for the simplest foods on the buffet. I tend to serve larger portions of fresh fruits and vegetables, a little
piece of meat (very little) and a little bit of any sauce or dip.

4.Eat and chew slowly.
Eating slowly may not be easy when appetizer options are endless and you want to taste everything! Yummy! That happens to me a lot! but it pays off to pace yourself. The quicker we eat, the less time the body has to register fullness. So, keep it calm.

5. Avoid drinking too much alcohol.
It's not just about calories but about control, If you drink a lot, you won't have as much control over what you eat.

dessert.jpg6. About Sweets.

When it comes to dessert, be very selective. Personally I find it very hard 'cause I love sweet things! But I limit the indulgences to small portions. What about sampling several desserts? Only take a tiny bite of each one? hmmmm well, I used to eat one bite of everything, but it was hard for me to stop hehe but with time, I've learned to have autocontrol and stop myself. You can do that. But if you know you're the type who can't stop at one bite, you're better off taking a small portion of a single dessert than piling your plate with several treats you plan to "try."

7. Drink a lot of water.
Last but not least. No matter what you're drinking at dinner, have a big glass of water as well. Before you can get yourself another beer, glass of wine, etc., you have to finish your water.

I hope this helps. Happy Holidays!! Robot LOL

I'd say don't even worry about holiday meals. You'll gain weight. Water weight. It'll go away within a week. You won't have a good time if you're still restricting yourself. Just eat mindfully. Stop eating when you're full or very full. What makes people gain weight during holidays are left overs. Left overs can be looked as holiday encore that happens possibly the same day or next day or even for a few days.

@AndyDandyPandy, you're right! Eating healthy, is a lifestyle and not only something that happens during the Holidays. Robot LOL Nice advise with the leftovers, we usually eat them at any time, even if we're not hungry.
