Making sense of weird numbers

Interesting observation today. I spent a nice long afternoon painting our garden fence. Given the number of squats, no wonder that I am feeling like after a good workout. Yet, my Fitbit, safely tucked inside my left sleeve, recorded that I was only spending around 60 kcal per hour. Suspected reason? I was holding the pot with paint in my left hand while painting ... Very carefully to avoid spills, and thus my movements did not trigger the sensors. Good reminder that your trust in the device should have some limits and that one should not become a slave to it. After all, what matters is that my clothes do fit better after first four weeks! (And the scale says that I am 2 kg lighter)..

Also, not being in contact with your skin, it couldn't give extra calories based on heart rate.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
