I've been going through all my summer clothes and I don't have a whole lot that will fit me. I'm going to give my smaller stuff to my sister and my mother, since it might fit them. I'm purging a lot of things. I just don't have room.
The pool opens Friday and I can't wait. It's about 4 blocks to get there. A week or two ago I would have questioned whether I could get there with the pain I was experiencing in my back. Now, I think I can make it and there's a senior's home between us with a bench out front. I can rest if I need. Do you know how distressing it is to acknowledge that I can't walk 4 blocks without resting? Unbelievable. This is ridiculous, truly.
Anyway, I'm having a super healthy dinner and have plans for a walking workout in front of tv tonight. Let's go everyone!!!

I am determine to lose weight even if it is slowly. I want to keep it off this time.
The extra 10 lbs live on my abdomen. I am healthy, somewhat flexible at 79 years old. I'm still pretty strong. Hopefully next year at this time I will be able to travel after we have a Covid-19 vaccination.
We can do this if we remember to eat healthy food and just enough of it.
Kick the junk food to the curb.
We are warriors for health.

Bad news for me. They are opening the YMCA but they are not holding group water fitness classes and you have to sign up for use of the pool to limit how many people go in it. I'm so disappointed. In water aerobics classes, no one goes near each other anyway! Let me in the pool!!

Hello! I've had Fitbits for several years now but I've never really used any of the online extras until now.
I am once again, restarting my weight loss journey that seems to be harder than ever now that I'm in my mid-fifties. I'm here for encouragement & hope to learn some things too. It's never too late to try again!
I have not been below 200 lbs. since 1996 when my son was born. I am so tired of starting over but I don't have a choice. I have to get there!

Hi LisaMarie-- I am right there with you. I am also in my fifties and over 200 lbs. I have found it much harder to loose the weight in the last few years. But I have been diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease, had 2 back surgeries so it is a must for me to get my weight down. I have started walking in the morning with a "walking buddy" on the phone and have already seen an improvement in one week. The Fitbit App is a real help too. The most important thing for me is tracking my food and WATER. Lots of water -- 80-100 oz. Good luck!

Welcome to all the new people! We are in this together in more ways than one! This is a safe forum for venting, learning and sharing. Feel free to ask questions and/or share a bit about yourself.
Remember that if you want to respond to a particular person's post you can use the @ sign to find them. When you type it a drop down will appear of the most recent posters. When you do this it will alert them (if they signed up to get alerts) that someone is 'talking' directly to them. It will also show this here so we all can see who you are responding to.
Just for fun, a synopsis of me:
59 year old female from Illinois, born, raised and living in the suburbs of Chicago. Married 32 years this Friday. Two adult children 1 boy, 1 girl. Son is at home with hubby and myself and daughter lives with her boyfriend down state and works in Iowa. I have been overweight since I got pregnant with my son 29 years ago. Each year gets harder to lose and I have been gaining and losing the same 7 to 10 pounds for years. Got my fitbit Flex in 2014 and it's still working. I have bad knees that will need to be replaced (at least one of them) probably sooner than I would like. No pets right now but love dogs. We are a family of geeks and nerds who love books, Marvel Universe, DC, comic-cons, movies, Harry Potter, Disney (and all that it covers), original artwork, family games and many, many other things. Hubby is a colon cancer survivor still addressing lingering issues. Son also needs to lose weight but isn't ready to yet.

Bio time:
I was born and raised in the Maritime Provinces in Canada (way over beyond Maine for our American friends). I started gaining weight at about 7 yrs old and lived my life in the obese range on charts. I would lose weight during pregnancy (due to the sped up metabolism) but then gain more afterward. My doc said this was normal for heavy women so I didn't worry. I ate well.
I have two adult children but lost their father to AIDS when they were babies. My son lives in another province and my daughter lives with me. She has begun the weight gain that is so prevalent in my family.
Four years ago, in June, I lost my second husband to lung cancer. He was a very heavy man and it was difficult to care for him. At that time I decided I couldn't go on being 380 lbs. What if I got sick and someone had to take care of me like I had to take care of him? I couldn't do that to my loved ones. I immediately put my fitbit on and began water aerobics, tracked my food, walked a ton, did everything I could. I lost 100 lbs in a year and I felt fantastic.
Money issues drove me to a sedentary job, which made me lazy, tired, sore, and I just stopped doing all the things that made me feel good. I wasn't taking care of myself. So, here I am again. I am back at 374 and working my way down again.
I am a creative soul, writing scifi/fantasy, doing art, and playing video games. Of course, all of that requires me to be on my backside. But, I think I can swing a balance. I have to.

Hi all,
Been in the garden weeding pruning & watering . I have some old seeds from 10 yrs ago & I am going to see if they will sprout. Off to buy snap pea starts & maybe flowers. It is lovely weather today and it will rain tomorrow. We need it here in Sonoma Co, CA where the wild fires took out a whole neighborhood in Santa Rosa.
Had trouble falling asleep 2 nights in a row due to images of the cop killed the handcuffed man by crushing his wind pipe with his knee deliberately. Sadistic police is not what the world needs. Now I'm listening to the rain fall on the Calm app. Very soothing.
Bio: I'm 79 yrs young and teach fitness for Older Adults now. I taught ballroom, latin & swing for years & do so only occasionally now. My son turns 59 in 2 days & I have 3 grand kids 21-16 yrs. I love bird watching and miss going out with the Audabon folks now but I go alone on my evening works. It is fun to lug my telephoto lens and capture ducks, wading birds, song birds. I saw a white faced Ibis for the 1st time this week. Wow, what a curved bill.
I have been more sedentary since mid march due to Covid-19 SIP. I wear a mask at the grocery store & take one on walks in case some unmasked fools get too close.
Now I need to enjoy the garden, and catch up on procrastinated sorting and letting go of stuff. I had planned to travel in June but off the Europe next year if we have a good vaccine by then. Jeepers what a deadly virus.
I've had a Fitbit charge for about 4 yrs and I like meeting my 3 miles a day step goal
I range from 153 -149 recently. The last 9 lbs clings to my belly like glue. Fortunately I like healthy food and I am still super healthy. I need to stop eating late at night. My goal is to stop eating by 9 pm and go to sleep by midnight to sort out my sleep cycle.

We all can meet our goals. I was here as Lilac lost her 100 lbs last time. Cele has been here for a while too. She says junk food is her weakness, but I know that she is strong.
I'm sending you strength & determination energy from my keyboard to yours.
We can do this. Yes we can.
Best,
Barbara G

Okay, it's hot. Too hot to go outside and mow or do any yard work. There is the possibility of thunderstorms later so it might cool down. Haven't been active enough. Our pool/Ymca had plans to open last week but it couldn't happen because we had a second outbreak of covid that delayed everything. I did go for a walk a few days ago and made the loop without having to stop halfway to rest my back. That's progress!
