I just found this recording: Dr McDougall interviews Dr Atkins: High Carb vs Low Carb
Kudos to McDougall for giving the devil his due. Atkins annoys me with his tendency to interrupt, but I can hear the mutual respect that each has for each other. Atkins also displays some nuance and acknowledges McDougall's approach in a manner that may be surprising to his critics.
Tagging @ScottHsv , as I believe this is the kind of reasoned dialog you appreciate. Instead of a "debate", it is a "dialectic": an unimpeded presentation of opposing viewpoints side-by-side without efforts to misrepresent the other side. I find I am open to be persuaded to accept an opposing viewpoint by such a treatment.
One fly in the ointment: The YouTube author photo-shopped Atkins' head on top of an obese person's body. (?!?) This perfectly illustrates the moral bankruptcy, malevolence, and utter lack of substance that vegan activists self-demonstrate they possess when they impotently try to smear Atkins, a far greater man than any of them can ever hope to be. This is why we need to treat these dolts with the contempt they so richly deserve. Slap they pointy little heads at every opportunity, and enjoy it!
Oh, wait. I slipped. Not reasonable. Sorry about that!

Hi @Daves_Not_Here,
The video is nearly 40 minutes long. I appreciate your rhetoric, but I don't get any sense of what the content of the video is. Would you be willing to summarize a bit?

@WavyDavey - It sounds like McDougall had a radio show (may still have it) and devoted the entire episode to interviewing Atkins. The focus was on Atkins' theories and approach to diet, eating, and experience with patients in his practice. McDougall voiced the various objections that he and others have with Atkins' approach, and allowed Atkins to fully answer them. He would ask logical follow-up questions, and permit Atkins to answer those.
I really appreciate how McDougall allowed a full and fair hearing of Atkins' views for the benefit of his audience, rather than demonizing or oversimplifying them. For his part, Atkins acknowledged that McDougall is getting great results and that low-carb eating is not the solution for all patients or situations.
I gained a lot of respect for McDougall for how he handled the interview -- his tone was skeptical, but respectful. I sensed that McDougall and Atkins knew each other personally and had a mutual level of respect. This sounded like a conversation between two friends that happen to hold opposing views. Atkins tended to blurt in, but not with "gotcha" questions or accusations. All in all, a very satisfying listen. McDougall gave Atkins a much fairer hearing than I've ever seen in the mainstream media.
