More than 150 pounds to lose . . .

Hi I've been neglecting health and fitness for a while now. I am 25yo and I need to lose around 150lbs to feel normal again. I just got a Fitbit flex and in my first day, I recorded 9725 steps. That is a personal best for me. I request you all to help me out with some weight loss work outs and diet. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

You can do this! I have lost 115 pounds so far and I really use my flex to keep me in check.  Feel free to add me. 🙂

I have lost about 35 lbs over 3 months eating Personal Trainer Food ( http://ptf.refr.cc/4W3C98J ) I also now walk an average of 15000 steps per day. I have about 65 lbs to go and so far it has been easy. Should be at goal weigh by Christmas

Since you are like what I was back in Oct 2013, I highly recommend seeing a doctor to talk about this, have a full blood panel workup to include A1C to exclude the possibility of diabetes, and seeing a nutritionist for a recommended set of nutritional guidelines and dietary intake.

You can do this.  Heck, I'm 58, have MS, and Type II Diabetes and I have gone from 300 lbs in Nov 2013 to 176 now.  If an old fogey like me can do it, I'm sure you can, too.

Best of luck to you and we'll all be pulling for you.

My situation is the pretty much the same, I weigh 330lbs and my goal weight is 170lbs. So I have a long way ahead of me as well. Started with low carb last week and this week I started to cut some fat as well and I've started to get results. I am doing 10 000 steps a day at the moment, but now I will be increasing that to 15 000-20 000.

One bad habit I would like to lose though, I keep on jumping on the scale every morning 😄

And now I just got my Aria scale today, well maybe at some point I will learn to weigh myself just once a week. Anyhow, let's cheer each other!

Wow! Thank you all for replying to my post! I wasn't motivated enough to worry about my weight and my health in general. But now, I really want to shed the extra weight and look good. Do you have any suggestions on the diet I should follow? I don't eat any kind of seafood, but everything else is OK. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Cheers,

It kind of depends, do you want to go with a light way, that takes time but is healthier or a strict way, that gives you results faster? I know the science, but I've just never followed it myself.

But low-carb&low-fat diet is an extreme way to get **ahem** moving fast easy. But you need a strong mind, and this is something that you should just keep on doing for the firt 100lbs, after that you should little by little add in carbs, but the good ones.

Low carb&Low fat daily food plan would look something like this:

Breakfast

Fat free cottage cheese 200-300G

Lunch

Salad with chicken or low fat beef

Snack

fat free cottage cheese or fat free yoghurt

Dinner

Salad with chicken or beef/instead of salad steamed veggies

After dinner

1 egg and 50g low fat ham

This will jumpstart your system, but you have to drink a lot and eat vitamin supplements. But you shouldn't do this too long, because some vitamins need fat to absorb and also because your mental health need a healthy amount of fat.

I am 28 years old and I am 5'9" and 283lbs. I am scared to death to see the 300lbs mark. I want to lose weight. I dont really have any support. Everyone in my family is small i have always been big and the biggest one. I dont want to have a short life i want to live and be free. Over the past 2 years some bad things have started to happen.I now get heart palpitations which my bf is convinced is directly related to  me being fat and my weight. I have been to the doctor many times and she tells me its stress and hormoans. It drives me crazy and I also now have bad anxiety which is partly why i have put on more weight. I was always big jsut not this big. I would like to get around 200lbs or so. I wear my fitbit all the time every day. My challange this week is to get 8 thousand steps everyday. So far so good. One more day than it is 7 days  over 8 thousand stpes. when i first started i was doing about 3 thousand steps a day with effort. I work 2  jobs both are at a desk. After work I am generally tired and want to nap. This week has been a real push and I think i will try to keep the 8 thousand going for a few weeks than up the steps.

I'm right there with ya, buddy! Looking to lose 100+ too. The biggest thing that I've been doing is being patient with myself. People like you and I who are looking to lose some serious pounds have a long journey ahead of us. I know you want to see results super fast (who doesn't?) but you have to do it the right way- remember that! Best of luck!

P.S. If you're ever feeling down-and-out, make sure to come back here!

If you look at me from the BMI perspective, I have over 100 pounds to lose myself. I'm 5'4 and weigh about 250 pounds. I was on Weight Watchers and lost about 30 pounds..guess what..I gained it all back. So I'm going to try Fitbit food logging because WW is expensive but I know it works. I'm not a fan of calorie counting but I need to do something. I'm so close to 300 and I never want to see that mark. Heck, I never want to see 250 again. I'm just uncomfortable in this body and I don't like how I look or how I feel.

If anyone wants to be friends, add me. I need more motivation/encouragement to keep going. I always start strong but fall off the wagon at some point.

Hi and welcome... I'm about 6 weeks in with Fitbit and am looking to lose about 100 pounds overall.  Really it should be more as I'm 5'2 and started at about 250. I was horrified when I got on the scale and saw that number.  I'm a mother to 5 boys (6 if you count my husband) and have put my personal health and well being on the back burner for years while focusing on them.  I work in an office, so I have a fairly sedentary lifestyle and over the years the weight just kept creeping up, a few pounds at a time.  But I didn't own a scale for a long time (probably my first mistake) so I only saw my weight when I went to the doctor (which was only when I was really sick, so every couple of years).  My husband decided to buy a scale and I nearly cried when I weighed myself the first time on it.  I decided then and there that I had to do something.  I started walking, just in the neighborhood, and after a couple weeks started going in to the office early to take advantage of the free gym.  6 weeks in and I'm down about 12 - 13 pounds, but I know alot of that is the initial loss of retained water. I do weigh every day, but I don't log my weight every day.  I keep track of my food and have continued to see the numbers go down on the scale, even if it's just by 10ths.  When it jumps up, I chalk it up to water retention and it usually evens back out in the next day or two.

Good luck and visit the forums often.  I find it really helpful to read about the success that everyone is having to help keep me motivated.  I often find really great tips that I can incorporate into my plan.  I saw this really great reward system today where you get small rewards for meeting say 5 pound increment goals.  GENIUS!  We're all in this together, and it helps to realize that you're not the only one 🙂

You are right patience is key and I will need to keep that in mind when there is seemingly no movement on the scales. It is amazing to me that I let it get this far out of hand before waking up. I am exercising an hour a day 6 days a week but cutting down on the food is much harder than the workouts. Weight Watchers may be my next step to at least give me a jump start. Thanks again for the encouragement.

The reduction of my food intake is really hard and I know I have to start but my mind is not quite there yet.

I didn't start tracking my food intake for a few weeks, maybe even a month or so after I started on the Fitbit.  And truth is, I still don't track it consistently.  Get the movement going first.  See what you can cut out later. My first cut back was soda.  I didn't actually cut back on food, I actually increased my intake (I had a bad habit of skipping meals), but I tried to make sure that I chose better food. Instead of having chips, I'd cut up a cucumber and a tomato and have that.  I still eat pizza and the occassional burger and I don't beat myself up for it (hey, a girl's gotta eat) but I've found that I don't eat as much of it, I don't even want it as much.  The food part will come, and if you can just make a small adjustment here or there, not cutting back, but making healthier choices, I'm sure you'll find it easier to work with.

I am at 384 lbs as of August 20, 2014.  I have decided to have berriatric surgery ( the sleave).  Before the surgery I am attending a 12 week course to prepare me for my new life.  It covers healthy eating, my lifestyle changes and how my life will be after surgery.  This program has also given me the fitbit to track my activity and food. Our coach will be monitoring my progress with the fitbit.  I feel like I've walked miles and miles but my fitbit has recorded only 2331 steps.  I know I'm not very mobile at this moment in my life but I was surprised at how little Ive walked since it said regular is 10,000 per day.  I'm so far behind and I have tried.  I know my knee hurts.  I even took the stairs today and recorded 3 flights.  The more weight I lose, the more I will be able to walk.  For now, its baby steps.  My goal is to lose 40 lbs before surgery which might be in Feb or March.  I would like to delay my surgery to June and I will speak to the team about that.

Peace and Blessings

Do not be disappointed with the number of steps. I barely broke a thousand when I started each day. It is a lifestyle change too. You will begin devising ways to increase your steps almost without realizing it. Just don't stop. The treadmill I used to hang my clothes on is actually getting used and I found a walking partner. Again one step at a time you will get there.

  • Ban all restaurants, deliveries, carry outs, and fast food joints. They are pure evil food and expensive. You can make your own $5 Coffee and Egg McMuffin at home 30 days straight and save $150 a month.
  • Speak to a nutritionist and develop a clean eating food plan. Have them provide a list of foods to buy from the grocery store in a weekly calendar format of Breakfast Lunch Dinner and snack times to prep for each day. You can ask for the easy way which would be like Whole Grain Bread, Egg, Bacon for breakfast. If they suggest supplements, zero carb. Keep those carbs low.
  • Program in your calendar an AM Strength Training workout and PM Cardio Training workout daily. Build yourself up to doing it all 7 days a week. It's only an hour each. It helps with building lean muscle and shredding fat to keep it up doing it daily.
