Hi I've been neglecting health and fitness for a while now. I am 25yo and I need to lose around 150lbs to feel normal again. I just got a Fitbit flex and in my first day, I recorded 9725 steps. That is a personal best for me. I request you all to help me out with some weight loss work outs and diet. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

I can see how weighing yourself every day can seem a bad thing. But I find it can be more positive doing itevery day if you lose the weight. Can be a massive motivation booster! Either way keep going! ;o)

Hi, this is the first time I've replied to a post so...I am nearing my fitbit goal of losing about 60 lbs. I'm 36 and 5'2. I was always skinny, if not underweight while growing up and then once I could actually afford to eat and was in a long term relaionship it just flew on. My bf and I have both been using the fitbit and he's reached his goal and I am almost there. I'm also a vegetarian (since I was 16) and we live in a very northern tiny isolated town in canada where healthier alternative foods aren't readily available. One thing that really helped us out, is that we weigh all our food and then he made up an excel worksheet wherein you input the calories of the food you want per grams and then at the bottom of the page it calculates the total per serving. For example, if I made a stir fry with a bunch of different veggies, rice, tofu, etc, I would have googled those foods and their calories and figured out the calories (usually per 100 grams) and then inputed those into the spreadsheet. I would then weigh my food and enter them into their appropriate box and then at the bottom it calacualtes the total calories. From there, say the total stirfry was 845 calories, I could input 3 servings which made make it 282 calories. I could also weigh the entire stirfy and then divide that weight by 3 and know the exact grams to make that calories. It has totally eased the whole calorie counting process. Instead of trying to calculate every little thing I eat, this spreadsheet calculates it all with me simply weighing stuff and entering it. So if you or someone you know is computer savvy, I would suggest this as a method of easing a lot of the stress of calorie counting.

I have not checked in for two weeks. Life has been very busy. Today when I weighed in I was at 369 lbs. I questioned if the scale was correct and the person from the hospital said yes. That means I have lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. I don't understand because I ate food from restaurants and also mexican food ( tacos, pupusas, beans) but I ate them in moderation and Im drinking 60 + oz of water a day. I am keeping the food journal and trying to keep my calories below 1500 daily. But I'm walking ! I"m not at 10,000 steps but I have hit 4000 a few times and regular over 3000 daily. I do feel this is an accomplishment as I've been very sedintary. Tonight at the workshop at the hospital we exercized for 15 minutes and I'm beat. I do walk the stairs at work 2 - 3 times a day as well but the fitbit only records 1 time if I'm lucky. I don't know, I'm excited about the weight loss but I think its a fluke. I'm frightened because when I finish the program at the hospital surgery is usually scheduled 5 - 6 weeks later and I need to delay mine 5 months for when school releases for the summer. I was told tonight the surgeon will have me retake the program if I gain any weight. This scares me. I guess I'm in a paranoia right now and afraid I can't gain any weight at all. I hope I'm not just riding on a pink cloud. I need to be in reality and I know I need to work hard for any goals to be met. I pray I keep my daily goal of steps, food intake, water and mobility.

I have over 125 lbs to loose. So far I have managed to cut down my soft drinks to 1 a day and some days none at all. Since Feb I have lost 10 inches but no weight. I would love to have a buddy. My current goals are :
1) stop drinking soft drinks and 2) walk 5000 steps a day , working my way up to 10000 a day.

Ressie,
I didn't jump into not eating all the bad things at once. Like many of you, I gradually eased into what is now my religion. I immediately stopped eating big portions...then I just started drinking water instead of Coke or 7-Up.
The next big bad habit I tackled was snacking/piecing between meals and before bedtime. That was really, really tough. There were times when I would "wake up" in front of the kitchen open pantry or fridge doors reaching for a snack. I would recoil my hand in disgust and close that door and walk back to the living room. That sort of episode occurred a lot in the first couple of weeks.
Over time, both my wife and I have given up all processed foods (most ot 'em, anyway), we don't eat pasta and we eat very rarely a baked potato. Normally we eat meats from the meat counter like fish, steak, porkchop, and skinless boneless chicken thighs.
I used to eat 16 oz plus prime ribs at Outback, now I will eat around 3-5 ozs of a steak.
So, here's to all of you who have, are, and will go through the same trials and tests to your resolve.
Lew

Checking in again, I forgot to yesterday. I will check my weight on Sunday. I'm trying to only check once a week. I'm the type of person who would check hourly if I could but I'm forcing myself to wait. I've increased my walking but my knee is telling me it knows I've increased my walking. I'm trying to limit calories to 1500 per day. At my current weight ( Sept 3 ) I was 364 and the fitbit has me way over the 1500 calorie limit. So I'm trying to limit it to the 1500. I so don't want to gain any weight. I've got to push harder. One thing though. My fitbit does not log the stair I take correctly. Most of the time I'm up the stairs 3 times a day. I'm lucky if it longs 1 time. Today was my 3 times per day and it logged me at 39 floors. Hahahaha, I only wish. So I don't know what the heck happened there. I'm drinking my water that's for sure, walking, eating sensibly. I've got to lose this weight. I know the surgeon want to see I'm trying. I'm going to thave the gastric sleeve surgery close to June and I need to show them I'm motivted. I just wish my knee would not scream at me so much, and I also need to get better shoes. You know at my weight I compress the sole quickly and then the shoe begins to hurt my feet. Hopefully on Sunday I can get a new set of tennis and also a pair of walking shoes.

Just got off the scale and I'm .9 heavier than I was 2 weeks ago. I'm taking the optimistic point of view. .9 in two weeks is a good thing. I could heavier than that. This weekend I did overeat going to restuarants twice. Once with a french dip sandwich and cole slaw and yesterday with prime rib dinner. Means I need to step it up stronger now if I am to be at a loss on Wed when I check back into the hospital for my class. I began a morning drink today. 16 oz water, 2 tlbs apple cider vinegar, 2 tlbs lime juice, 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp cinnamon. Its supposed to stimulate my kidneys for more output. I'm drinking loads of water but not peeing much. My latest blood work showed that my uremic acid level is very high which can cause gout. Its supposed to be 100 or < but I was over 500. My doctor has not contacted me so I guess there is no worry. I read in my healing plants and herbs book about this morning drink to stimulate kidney output. I'm going to try it for this week to see how it goes. Seems thermogesic because of the lemon, vinegar and cinnamon - Honey is added just to cut the taste. Today I need to walk more than 4000 if I can but my knee is really hurting. I know I'm going to be slow up the stairs today as well but I don't have an elevator option.
Sensible eating today. Back to my protein in the am, salad with protein for lunch and fruit snacks. Planning on tea and fruit for when I get home tonight. Working with the teens at the church tonight so I know I will be moving about. I'll check in on Thurs after I have results from class at hospital.

Last few years a gained weight because of bad health habits but also because of lungs surgery
and major spinosis surgery. At one point my weight reached 370lbs. I was able to lose 40 with
weight watchers over one year, but a realised that it was not enought and it would cost me
more than I would lose.
My doctor refered me to a clinic where they help people before having a bariatric surgery. At first
it was a shock, but it made me realised that I needed to care of my self now. So they never pushed
me to surgery keeping it has plan B. So with their multidisciplinary team I was able to eat better
and increase my physical activity based on my back limitations.
After 5 months with them, following their program and taking their optifast shake, I was able to:
walk over 10000 steps a day, daily exercice and aquaform, no longer need to walk with cane,
and my weigh is now under 290lbs. And still no surgery!
The important thing for me was to focus on losing 25lbs at a time. Listen to my body.
Follow the instruction of the kinesiologist and clinical psychologist. And most importantly
still enjoy life and keep a smile.
Hope this helps! Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone. I have already lost about 90lbs. I still have about 50-70 pounds to lose. I have lost my motivation. I lost my weight through diet and exercise. I ate low carb and I have maintained my 90lbs for over a year now, but now....I am struggling. I am looking for people who understand what it's like to lose this amount of weight and for support to keep going.
Thanks!

I am 39, I have three kids (four if you count my husband), and I work two sedentary jobs. I finally decided to make a life change in February 2014 when I weighed over 300 lbs. I have learned two very important things. 1. I need and deserve to spend time on myself. 2. When I am most tired and crabby is when I need some type of physical activity the most. I don't like to work out. BUT, I experimented and tried a bunch of new things. I learned that I love Zumba. I was horrible at it in the beginning, but I kept going back because I liked how it made me feel. I struggle with my eating. I like sweets and I like them a lot when I am stressed out. (My mom had cancer this year, and I had A LOT of stress). However, I read labels and use a food tracker, it holds me accountable for what I shove in my mouth. I also have really tried to cut out a lot of foods that have preservatives in them. I lost 25 lbs this year. It is a start:)
