Mid 40's and need to lose about 90 lbs!
Put off this weight loss thing forever because I was "healthy" otherwise.
Now my blood pressure is high, Im a full time student and its a pain walking across campus!
Looking for friends who may be in same situation.
Not a high stepper, but need motivation and support.

Williemaesmom, I sent a request to you as well 🙂 I'm new to fitbit (got mine last Friday!) and would love some motivating friends.
I'm 29, looking to lose roughly 90-100lbs. I too suffer from HBP but am on medication and finally in a normal range. Short term goal is to halve my dosage, then stop taking it all together! I work as a CNA but am aiming to go back to school to work on my pre-reqs for the nursing program in the spring, so I'll (hopefully) be a full time student soon as well.

You guys all have achieveable goals! And by getting fitter, can get off ur meds and feel so much better! Feeling better in my 40s than I did in my 30s or even 20s -- once I learned more that its about the foods, and unlearned false perceptions and untruths I'd picked up along the way.
Just reading intro and chapter 1 in The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone..."Its time to reaquaint yourself with actual food, the stuff that comes out of the ground, the stuff that's designed to go into our bodies, supporting not only our physical functions but our hearts and even our souls." (nice intro!)
And apparently you can check out thekindlife.com for some videos, recipies, etc...(haven't gotten there yet myself though!).

I am 48 and have at least 120 pounds to lose. I have had my fitbit for a month. I have PCOS which brings a ton of issues in the endrocrine system, making it difficult to lose. Was just diagnosed but have had the problems since I was in my 20's. I am now on a Low Amylose diet, which means No starches and sugar, and FINALLY have some pounds shed!
Going to the gym 5 days a week, we just started at the first of the month.
We CAN do this

Admittedly had to google to see what PCOS was....then did a bit more poking around, as through various forums have come across people who've done odd things like rid themselves of symptoms of fibermyagia through diet.
Found this post on kindlife.com with info from Dr. Neal Barnard....maybe helpful?
A few excerpts..
Common PCOS symptoms include obesity, hirsutism (growth of thick hair in areas where hair is normally minimal or absent, such as the face, chest, and breasts), and absence of menstrual periods. Affected women generally have multiple ovarian cysts and may be infertile. They often have diabetes, male-pattern baldness, and acne.
A diet that addresses cardiovascular risk factors is appropriate for women with PCOS. Roughly half of women with PCOS are obese, and losing as little as 5 to 10 percent of weight results in a resumption of menstrual periods and a decrease in androgen hormones.
A plant-based diet is the best option for women with PCOS. The majority of women with PCOS also suffer from insulin resistance. If insulin isn’t working properly then hormones get out of kilter, among other mishaps. Fiber helps tremendously with hormone issues, and of course fiber is only found in plants!
There are several additional reasons why a diet low in fat and high in fiber and whole grains (aka a vegan diet) is superior to other weight-loss treatments. Such a diet helps reverse diabetes, which affects 50 to 70 percent of women with PCOS. Low–fat, high–fiber diets also reduce body weight and effectively address unhealthy cholesterol levels.
