Need to lose 20 lbs

ANSWERED

I’m now 40 years old and weight is piling up. Extra weight means health issues.  I went to a health fair and was told I have pre-hypertention. I was told to lose 10 pounds. I have never had a weight issue. I’m a size 8 and this is the largest I’ve ever been.

I started with the Fitbit to count my daily steps and make sure I get in 10K steps a day. Now I get in about 40K steps a day; however I’ve not lost a single pound. (Mainly because I love to snack) I do not snack after 7pm.

I’m stepping more but not loosing anything. Any suggestions?

Eat fewer calories is my suggestion.  Track what you are eating for a week and compare that with what you are burning.  Then go for a reasonable deficit.   Eat for nutrition; snack on food that is as close to its natural state as possible.

At the end of the day calories burned is always more than calories taken in. Yet I haven’t lost any weight.

Have you been keeping up with body measurments? If you are not I would suggest that you do. As you get active, you start building muscle, lossing fat. Muscle weight more then fat. The scale may not be moving but you are changing your body by adding muscle.

Measuring your portions. I look for high protein, low carbs. Try to challenge yourself to up the steps and add some actual activity to burn more calories. You need to take in less and burn more. So watch that. I have a 500-750 calorie deficit and I am losing about 2.1 lbs./week. I have lost 19.6 lbs. since Jan. 30 when I weighed 204. But watch for low cal things. I also gave up soda - I was drinking 24 cans or more of Coke and that dropped 10 lbs. quick. I don't eat a lot of bread, no donuts, or fast food choices unless I am very choosy and don't eat the carbs. I will look for salads and for veggies. LOTS of water!!!! Get your heart rate up as well. I am working with a doctor and nutritionist to get my weight in order. I am now 184.6 today!!!! Keep going!!! Just don't snack too often, but if you do eat something like 6 triscuits with 2 TBSPs of Hummus or have a yogurt (especially the Greek yogurt which packs more protein). I watch beef intake. I like chicken with a little balsamic vinegar, any spices, watch the salt (sea salt) and pepper. I do squats at my desk and workout in front of my desk with bands and do band resistance exercises. Just find ways to fit in something that burns and keeps your heart in shape. I'm 52 almost 53 and you can do it too!!! Keep going.

Have you had success with the suggestions that are posted. I have the same issue. I think a lot depends on what you eat and not just calories.

@NorthTech How are you doing? I have to agree with @Carolhg, I think that what you eat is more important than how much. And the only way I've found to truly stay healthy is eliminating processed foods and switching to eating a "whole foods" diet. Also, talk to your doctor about hormones. So many products today are filled with artificial estrogen and excess estrogen in your system causes all kinds of issues, the most noticeable being excess body weight. If you're already eating healthy whole foods, you may need to look at a form of hormone replacement therapy.

Cut your sugar intake. Do your 40 000 steps and 1 lbs less in a week.

(Mainly because I love to snack) - Watch how much you're snacking and what you are snacking on. Fruits and Veggies are better than downing donuts or popcorn or cheese sticks or whatever food you enjoy. There are a couple recipes you can try for protein veggies.

b4 you snack on any sugar garbage - drink a glass of water.

By water- I have in mind plain water. Don’t add anything to it.

Wait 3 min than eat an apple, banana, orange etc.

let me know if that works for you.
