After almost two months away from home where I got pretty darned sloppy about my nutrition, my weight showed it.  By the time I got home, I had bounced back up to higher than my starting weight on this challenge.  BUT . . .  I am determined, now that I've had time to unpack and get rested a little, to get back on the horse and FOCUS (as one of our members likes to say).  🐵  Next week WILL be better.  Because of all that fluctuation, I adjusted my goal weight for this challenge.  It's a stretch, but I would be thrilled if I could hit it, and I'll be working hard to get there.  I hope everyone is doing well.

Congratulations to those moving towards their targets, and for those who are bogged down (or turned backwards on the tracks), be kind to yourselves, and good luck on turning the train around!  As long as we don't give up, I'm certain we will succeed!

@dianenyc - I really like the one week commitments! Those min-goals really help stay on track for the big prize!

Thank you for that @dianenyc!  Your optimism is much appreciated.  You always know just what to say 🙂  And hey, look at that!  You're only 0.4 pounds away from your current goal weight! **high five** I'm glad you're enjoying the low carb thing.  Looks like you'll get to that UGW in no time.

Will power and discipline?  Who, me?  I am afraid you must be talking to awood08, saraj91, or almost anyone in this discussion group other than me!  I have no will power!  I am so weak.  Yesterday was supposed to be the first cheat day I skipped because I cheated Monday at book club.  I was doing fairly well.  I swam in the morning (about 2 miles); I walked 4 miles in the park with a friend.  I got my 10,000+ steps in before noon. We had Panera for lunch, and I had one of my normals: You Pick 2, Chicken Cobb with Avacoda Salad with a baguette on the side and a Chicken Frontega Panini.  Yes, there are plenty of carbs in that meal, but there are also loads of veggies and plenty of good protein, as well.  We were both feeling as if we could use a light dessert, so I suggested CherryBerry (frozen yogurt).  I got about 6-8 ounces, I imagine.  I hadn't had froyo in months!  It was delicious, and I felt little guilt (I had probably worked out and off more calories than I had eaten).  I then went to Sam's to do some grocery shopping, and they were doing a lot of sampling.  I don't recall so much on a Friday early afternoon--before 2:30!  I sampled rather freely--although it wasn't much of anything.  The worst things I ate were a small piece of Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich and ice cream bar and two rather small meatballs.  Later that evening, however, I was making dinner for my kids.  Friday night is pizza night--"pizza!" she says, much as Homer Simpson talks about almost any food he loves!  I opened the oven door to put the pizza in, and there were two hamburger buns from dinner a few nights before.  I believe I must have lived another life during the Depression because anyone else would have thrown those buns away.  They were days old!  Not me.  I couldn't do it.  I ate them both...with some Vermont cheddar cheese on top.  They had been in the oven while it was pre heating.  They tasted like croutons! It was after 7pm, so (like Rob mentioned earlier), I just threw in the towel.  I ate my last box of birthday candy (the Sour Patch Kids), a small slice of pizza (how I wanted more! but it was about a 2-inch wedge) and a piece of my birthday fudge from the freezer.  Sound like willpower to you?  Discipline?  I am a disciplined junk food addict!  I am so mad at myself that I am not eating anything today but vegetables if I get hungry.  I am so determined to get to my goal weight "this time" that my motto now is "You play, you pay!"  It's a nice day today (about 50F!!), so I am going to go for a run.  A friend just called me and reminded me that I agreed to go to a trivia night tonight.  Have you ever gone to one?  Everyone is expected to bring snacks (SNACKS!!), and for 2-3 hours, a group of up to 10 people at a table answers trivia questions and chows down on junk.  I told her I am bringing carrots and apples in case I have no will power.  That is all I will eat.  It will be after 7pm, and I doubt I can do it.  Someone, please, grant me strength!!  Maybe you will want to be changing your opinion of me, Sam? Sigh.

I LOVE your open and honest stream-of-consciousness postings! When James Joyce was re-incarnated, some of him went to you! This is a compliment 🙂

I am being sincere and say this without sarcasm/irony...please don't stop posting!   Rob

Wow!  You sound so much like me!  (only a new and improved version) I am embarrassed to say how much I work out (but if you read my last note to Samalama, you will get some idea.  I almost went for another park walk with a friend who likes to haul @ss last night at around 6--it would have prevented the disaster!--but my middle child was having a crisis, and I figured prominently in it and had to clear things up with her).  If I didn't have my cheat day, I'm pretty sure I would always weigh around 130-135.  While this weight is not bad for me (I'm 5'8" and very athletic), I just dream of 115.  It is under the weight I should be, but I want to see how it looks on me.  The last weight I can remember being in high school was 114, and I want to reach (close to) that weight again.  I know I'm a nut.  Once there, I will reevaluate whether I want to stay there.  I was 119 one day about 7 years ago and 123 briefly one day last July.  I have been in the 125 range for an extended period of time and know I like that weight, so we shall see.  By the way, losing weight for me is fairly easy until I hit 130, and then it's like asking the typical teenager to stop using his or her cell phone: it's not going to happen without a fight!  Keep up the good fight, you warrior!

Hey TrailTrekker, I don't know about anybody else, but I am impressed!  When I am away from home, you may as well just call me Petunia Pig.  I eat at restaurants and cannot help myself.  I work out, yes, but I have no will power when it comes to restaurant food (none, Samalama!).  I always eat everything on my plate.  There is no such thing as "portion control."  You managed to lose weight?!?  You rock!!

@swimr12265  haha. Well...you're doing SOMETHING right!  It takes me months to drop a couple of pounds and keep them off.  You've lost over 8 pounds in a month!  You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.  It seems like you eat right most of the time.  So what's a little oversnacking here and there?  You're doing great.  My opinion has not changed! 🙂

@dianenyc,

Several days ago I called you a saint, and you denied it.  I thought to myself, "Whatever!  This is one of the nicest women I have ever encountered." And now I was just looking at your avitar...perhaps really seeing it for the first time.  What's up with that?  You really are a saint!  You are so positive and friendly.  You have nothing but good words to share with everyone.  If that is not the definition of saintly behavior, I don't know what is.  When I read your words, I remind myself that anything is possible with tenacity and determination.  You continually remind me that this is true.  Thank you.

Rob, you make me want to cry (I am tearing up now, actually).  What an awesome guy you are!  Thank you so much.  I am going to run with a heavy foot (I actually don't like to run so much, but is it effective or what???) but a light heart all because of those few, sweet words.  Thanks again!! Smiley Very Happy

Well, Sam, if I am honest, I will have to admit that I attribute some of my tenacity "this time" to sheer determination.  I am honestly getting sick and tired of telling myself over and over (ad nauseam) that I am going to reach 115 only to be distracted by a squirrel (if you know what I mean).  I also am now really committed to this challenge.  I would feel like an utter failure (and I can beat myself up like Muhammad Ali whooped Joe Frazier and some of those other guys back in the day) if I didn't reach my goal weight now after sharing it with the "world"...which is exactly why I shared.  I HAVE to do it now.  About to go for that run now...really...lol

@swimr12265 ,

 Thanks , i don't know about new and improved....lol it sounds like you are doing pretty great yourself:) Trust me i would love to have a cheat day , but i know me and i have made a choice i would not stop at 1 meal or 1 day so it's not worth it for me. Sounds like our goals are pretty close. Although i am only 5'6 , not quite sure where i want to end up , those in the know say bmi at 115 is the lowest i can go without being under weight , however i believe bmi is subjective as well as everyoe is built differently. At 129 i see a lot more than 15 pounds of fat left on me. ( that may be a bit of body distortion though from being heavy so long)  We can do this together though. Slow but sure is the way to get there.

Go for it, JaquelineP.

I know it's hard when you're away from home to stay on track -- I always get so discombobulated.  Now you're back in the comfort of your own habitat and you can get back to your own habits (funny I never noticed before that those two words have the same root).

You know we're all rootin' for ya.

Have a good one today,

Hey Ballthree,

Re: the weekly commitments -- Yeah, I find it helpful to have a weekly game plan.  It keeps me focused on my actions (which are in my control) and not the results (which sometimes don't reflect the effects of my actions immediately.)

Thanks for your kind words, Samalam217.  Re: always knowing just what to say, I'll tell you my secret --  Make a lifetime of mistakes and pay attention. It's like this little poem I read as a teenager by this Danish guy, Piet Hein:

The road to wisdom

Well it's plain and easy to express,

err and err and err again

but less and less and less.

It tickles me to know that someone is benefiting from all the holes I've managed to fall into all these years!

Hey Guys,

Does anybody know how to add a friend?  swimmr & I have been trying to do this for at least a couple of weeks without success.

Love the poem @dianenyc!  lol. I'm good at making mistakes, just not so much at learning from them! 😉

It took me forever to figure out how to add people, too.

Just click on her picture.  It'll take you to another page.  By her picture it will say something like go to their fitbit profile.  Click on that.  And then you will see the add friend button next to the picture on that page.

I've been thinking about a few weekly commitments after being inspired to do so readling dianenyc's updates.

This week, I'm committing to make one of my meals mainly a salad of some sort each day, and also, no more snacking after 7:00PM. this week. The snacking part is hard, because I'm at high school basketball games 4 nights a week, and the popcorn speaks to me IN A LOUD VOLUME the minute I walk in the gym. Also, if I eat mexican for lunch, layoff those delicious chips and salsa!

Challenging for me, but well wihin the realm of possibility!
