New here - and with a question about temptation!

ANSWERED

Hi everyone!  I have to say when I got my Flex about exactly a week ago, I didn't think I'd be using it as intensely as I have - or the dashboard or this website!  I've never been one to enjoy logging my food, but somehow I'm really addicted to doing that and not cheating even a little yet.  I have been paying attention to my steps and my calories in and out and have been having a great time with it!

I arrived at work today and found this (someone's idea of a great gift for sedentary people) and wonder how you all might deal with it... I am an emergency services dispatcher and I'm trapped in this small room for 4 or 5 hours all alone with this stuff.  I know I could ask someone to remove it but how would you deal with the temptation if it was right in front of you (and you liked it all!!) Would you have a piece or two and feel glad that you could have ONLY a piece or two?  I have about 70 lbs to lose and I'm feeling encouraged that I can do this, while knowing that there will always be temptation.  Thank you!  Lisa

I have one of my favorite pairs of jeans hanging on the pantry door in my appartment, every time I want to reach for a snack I have to move them out of the way and think about how much work it took to fit into them, and the sugary/ tempting item seems a lot less appealing. Not sure what I would do at work, haha...probably ask someone to remove them or throw a jacket or blanket over them, haha

OMG OMG OMG!!!   I work in EMS communications at a Level I Trauma Hospital in Kansas.  We are an extension of the ER and let me tell you----NURSES CELEBRATE EVERYTHING!!!  "Betty got her nursing license, SOMEONE BAKE A CAKE"..."Molly is pregnant, SOMEONE GET A 5 GALLON DRUM OF ICE CREAM"..."Debbie got engaged....SOMEONE SMOKE A HAM".

I feel your pain loud and proud.  The big thing I do is keep plenty of water at my desk AND I keep a stash of my own treats and such like sugar-free jello cups, light greek yougart, light string cheese, some kind of sugar-free liquid water enhancer.

Like you said, there will ALWAYS be temptations but in my opinion when you are prepared, you can win!

I just said that I am going to start doing that at work today - there is food everywhere - someone's birthday every week - people bringing in cookies, donuts, bagels, etc. etc. I am bringing my own prepared and portioned bag of healthy things to eat!  Only way to do it!

I read an article once about how the junk food industry puts chemicals in food to stop you from feeling full and keep you eating the whole bag, so don't blame yourselves. Pack yourself a nice treat that you make yourself, in a reasonable portion, and stay away from those evil tasty treats Smiley Happy

I have a weakness for sweets as well. Not knowing your nutritional statistics ie % of protein, fats and carbs. Have you considered upping the protein and good fats? In addition to that do you eat breakfast or a meal to start your day depending on the shift you work? Fats can keep you feeling full longer. Also take into consideration that people do not eat calories.... We eat food. The average fit person eats 3 -5 pounds of food a day regardless of the number of calories. You could ( maybe ) eat a pound of chocolate @ 2400 calories in the morning and be hungry by mid afternoon for 3 or more pounds of food. Find that balance between feeling satisfied and the number of calories. That can help with food cravings. When I get cravings I know it is not because I'm hungry.........and that is something many people have to contend with, within themselves.
