New to Fit Bit and looking for friends.

Hey all I am new to Fit Bit and really motivated to get moving and loose my extra weight. I work from home so I am now longer clocking the miles I would get working at the hospital. I would love to add some moderately active friends as well. I have started using my elliptical, recumbent bike etc about 20 mins a day and averaging about 5,000 steps but I need a challenger LOL!

Hey! Welcome to Fitbit - I say that as if I'm any less new than you. I just got my Fitbit today - less than four hours ago, in fact, and I've done very little activity. I'm definitely down with having some extra friends, and, thus, some extra accountability! For sure, I won't be any sort of challenger; I've led a very sedentary lifestyle, and I'm working on changing that, but my activity isn't going to rival yours, more than likely.

Still! Friends are always good.

I realized since getting it how inactive I can be so I have really made a concious effort to get those 5,000 steps... working towards 10,000. The only thing that bums me out is that the fitbit doesnt seem to track my elliptical workout or my bike. I rode 9 miles twice this week and it still "looks" like I didnt accomplish much as far as steps :P~ Good Luck to you!

Good for you, Shelly - are you logging your eliptical/bike activity? Even if you don't log steps it IS calories out and that really counts for more than the number of steps you take -

Keep at it and don't forget to stop and smell the bluebonnets - lol

I am relatively new using FitBit and this conversation just brought up a question. When I'm on the treadmill or elliptical, I'll log my activity however I don't want my calories out and/or steps to be doubled. With that being said, should I be logging activity such as jogging when it count's my steps?

Amber, there are two separate activity recording methods - one is used to identify what you were doing for a given time period, the other will add in steps if it is a step based activity but is used also for non-step based or for when you forgot or can't wear your fitbit. Like swimming if you don't have one of the waterproof trackers. I think you can tell them apart by hovering over the relevant icons.

Hope this helps
