New to FitBit - Over 100+ lbs. to lose...

ANSWERED

Hi, I'm new to FitBit!  Just joined today and am excited to have the FitBit so that I can see my progress in numbers.  I'm a data girl....the more the better for me. Smiley Happy

I was wondering if there is anyone that would like a "buddy" on their weight loss journey.  I have the support of my loving family and would also like to find some cyber FitBit friends to share with (and help keep me accountable!)  I have over 100 lbs to lose and will be taking it one day at a time.

I am new here - have been slinking around trying to get a feel for the forums, but would like to hire a few friends . . . just kidding.  I would like to get to know others who going through a similar journey or have gone through it already.  I am 50 and have just over 100 pounds to lose.  This is not about how I look, but living.  I have a wonderful family, but they don't always understand how I feel, or the struggles of food addiction.  I hope to be a support to others as well!

I'm new to FitBit, but not new to the technology. I had a Body Media arm band, but I broke up with it last month and ordered my FitBit Force... it JUST came in last week (its been back ordered since Christmas). I'd be happy to also buddy up with you or others to help motivate and inspire. I have about 85 more pounds to go (39 pounds to meet my next goal). I've lost 70 so far since about April/May of last year.

Hi everyone. I'm new to Fitbit as of 02/23/2014. I have roughly 100 lbs. to lose and I'm looking to sync up with like-minded people to help and be helped along the way. I'm also a member of Weight Watchers and I'm hoping that the combination of WW and Fitbit will help me finally be successful at losing this weight. I don't know if you all want to keep in touch on FB or through email or through these forums. Just let me know and I'm in. Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Hi, I've been losing weight since June 2013. Have already lost 81 lbs and have the last 42 to go. Love to have some fitbit friends, for the encouragement to get to target. And to help others who are just starting their downward journey on the weight charts.

Congrats, how did you do this?  What exactly did you eat?  I am wondering if I am not eating enough calories, I eat around 1300 cal a day, and have been eating paleo lifestyle and am stalled big time.  THe only thing I can think to do is increase my activity

For the first fifty pounds, I focused on cutting my caloric intake and trying to exercise at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. I didn’t follow a strict diet and I would splurge whenever I had room in my daily count. I let MyFitnessPal be my very rough estimate for calories in v. calories out. – I spent a lot of time on the elliptical and strength trained 3 days a week – full body each day.

As I drew close to the fifty pound mark, it was clear to me that my body was plateauing. I couldn’t sustain the diet I was consuming, no matter how much time I seemed to add to my workout. During this time, I really started to reign in my diet. I cut down my sweets to once a week. I had two to three splurges in a week (within reason). I started running for the first time in my life and I started using training sessions with a personal trainer twice a week. This really helped me to stave off a plateau.

Just as I approached the 100lbs mark, my body started to plateau again. I really had to start eating cleanly and had to lower my calorie intake quite a bit. To begin, I roughly took the goal weight I wanted to hit first (I was at 350 and wanted to hit 300) and added a 0 behind it as my calorie consumption (3000). When my goal became 250… I had 2500 calories (and didn’t eat back exercise calories). Now, I am taking in about 1350 calories daily and burning anywhere from 200-800 calories a day, depending on if it’s a strength day or a cardio day.

I am just starting to convert to Paleo myself. – One thing that I found to really help me with plateaus (which you have likely tried) is: up the water intake, completely change the type of exercise you are doing so that you body isn’t in a routine/using muscle memory to complete actions (less taxing when it has your routine down pat!), using caloric cycling (eating the same total calories at the end of the week, but changing the amount each day), OR having a splurge day that lets your body know it isn’t in a rut and it’s all going to be okay. 🙂

Thank You so much, this has helped me a great deal.  I especially like your common sense on calorie intake.  Beleive it or not, I find it hard to even eat 1300 Calories unless its all junk food.  I think I have starved myself into being 290 lbs if you can beleive that.  I went onto Livestrong.com and used their caloric table and that web site said I should eat over 3000 calories.  So from what you said, I should be eating at least 2900 calories to get my body out of starvation mode.  I will try doing that, and it won;t be easy eating Paleo that many calories.  If I can help you at all in making that transition, let me know, there are many good blogs and cookbooks out there.
