No weight loss despite calorie deficit and 10k steps a day

Hi All,

I have had my fitbit since April now and been trying to loose weight for the last several months and nothing is happening, I'm 28, 165 cm, and 66kg at the moment. I have been doing 10k steps for the last month and a bit and no weight is budging! Im eating in a deficit of what my Fitbit tells me and still nothing. On average my fibit tells me I burn around 2100 to 2300 calories a day while I am eating way less than this of around 1500 to 1750 and still nothing! I was eating before around 1300 to 1400 before I started daily walking and no weight loss too then. Really don't know what else to do, I am eating all the right things and upping my protein and eating less carbs in the evening and nothing!  i have 5 pounds I need to loose that I had put on over 5 months which just wont budge!  Thanks

Hi @charlotteannaw

Congratulations on all you doing for your weight management.

I know we tend to focus on the weight data almost exclusively and fret when our weight doesn't decrease despite all our efforts. When we don't see the expected change on the scale, we get frustrated and disappointed.

Have there been other changes that you've noticed, such as your clothes are fitting looser or your legs & body are more toned? If so, then you are on the right track with your efforts. As I'm sure you know, muscle is more dense than fat. So as you continue to build muscle and burn fat, your weight can stay the same or in some cases, increase.

I suggest that you continue as you've been doing. Maybe you don't need to weigh yourself as often. Those 5 pounds might not go away anytime soon, but that's because you've built more muscle. Focus instead on how you feel & look.

You might also look at switching to maintenance phase and decide what do you want to incorporate as a lifestyle change. Often, we make radical changes to our lifestyles in an effort to reduce our weight. However, those changes are not ones we want to continue to do once we reach our goal weight. By making good lifestyle changes, such as portion control and/or mindful eating, it's easier for us to manage our weight while improving our overall health.

Hi,

According to your figures, you fall within the normal BMI range so I wouldn't stress about the extra 5kg.  Your body know what weight it is meant to be.
