Pregnant but trying to stay active

I am looking for people to help me stay motivated and to keep moving while I am pregnant.  I am 3 months pregnant and I am high risk.  My goal would be to do 10,000 steps at least 5 days a week.  Before I got pregnant I was doing very well on my weight loss journey.  I had lost over 60lbs and I do not want to gain that back being pregnant.  I have to be very careful with this pregnancy.  I want to be more active then I have been the past few months.  If anyone wants to add me for weekly challenges I think I that would help me pick up my steps!

Good for you!  I wish I had taken better care of myself during my first pregnancy.  My second I was much healthier and everything was so much easier.  Walking and gaining slowly is ideal!  I gained 70 with my first and about 20 with my second (I was still overweight so the typical 30 was not recommended).

Congrats @Foxykim07!

I saw one of your posts from 2014, that said you'd all but given up on being a mother. So good job sticking with it. Feel free to add me if you need more fb friends.

Congratulations! I think it is wonderful that you want to keep moving - I would just encourage you to listen to your body. Don't do it because your tracker hasn't buzzed, do it because you feel amazing. I can honestly tell you the difference between gaining a little weight and a lot is what you eat while you are pregnant. Eat good food. Be mindful of calories although don't count or sweat them. If you wouldn't eat something fatty, salty, sugary or processed before you were pregnant.. for sure don't do it now. I ate like a champ with my first- 25 pounds gained and lost during delivery. With my second there was a lot of love for chocolate donuts and pork roll on bagel- gained over 40 and asked them during delivery to go find more babies because there was 20 extra pounds left behind. I wish you much health and joy during this special time.. best, E

Hi, @Foxykim07, since you have mentioned that you are "very high risk" I would hope that you would be extremely careful about any advice you get in these forums.

For most pregnancies, walking ought to be completely safe and an excellent exercise, but please do check with your physician -- whom no one here can replace -- if he or she says any particular exercise or diet is safe, you will find lots of people here to give you support.

Unless your doctor says otherwise, I would say 10k steps a day is a great goal to start with, so go for it, and let us know how you are getting on!  Maybe yu could join in one of the challenges.

I checked with my doctor and basically the first 3 months all they wanted me to do was walk and not lift any weights over 10lbs... i got very bored with that very quickly... now that i am into my second trimester they told me i can do alittle more like the elliptical or really anything i wanted i just shouldnt get my heart rate past 140... so this week i was hoping to be more active with being in a couple challenges but it really didnt get me motivated:(((
