I'm new to fitbit. I've been using it a few weeks now and I'm finally using the membership to my local rec center I've had for almost 2 years! I'm a busy mom and nurse but I've recently reduced my work hours and I'm determined to somehow finally make time to take care of myself between work, chauffering kids, going to the kids activities and housework. I have 75lbs to lose and I've been overweight since my first pregnancy 15 years ago. I've started going to Zumba and walking but I'm still struggling with my diet. I've made improvements but have a long way to go. I'd love to find support and people to challenge me and help me on my journey to fitness. Anyone else out there who would like to lose about 75lbs in the next year?

Hi KandyKorn, I'm right there with you. I am also new to FIT BIT and just started using mine a few days ago. I have been on and off with the weight loss and really need to find that motivation to keep me from falling off the wagon this time. I am trying to lose at least 30lbs. I just had surgery so all I have been doing is going on walks lately. I'm determined to start back in the gym next week.
I am a mother, a student and have a full time job. My husband helps me out a lot but I lack the willpower. I think my biggest issue is my eating. Now that I am tracking everything I put into my mouth, I see how much I go into the red. Hoping to find a push and some encouragement on this journey.

Hi, Nan! Surgery is rough. It's great that you are walking while you are recovering! What are your biggest diet hurdles?
I'm struggling with my diet. I have my fitbit set to a 750 calorie deficit but I'm often in the red by the end of the day. I think I need to do a better job of planning lunches/snacks so when dinner comes around I have enough calories left. Right now I'm trying to just be sure and log everything without cheating or getting discouraged so I have a real picture of what I'm eating. I'm also cutting down on carbs a bit, trying to hit my water goal, and trying to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. I've been working out regularly for about a week now and I can already see I'm starting to lose because of it. I'm motivated to keep it up. Because of my work schedule I can't work out much every other week but on the days I work 12 shifts I do tons of walking. I'm going to give my self about a month to lose at least 5lbs or I think I might join weight watchers.

I fail to plan when it comes to meals. Dinner is always the heaviest and worst meal for me. I think it's great that you are are in the gym when you can get there. That is a geat start! Keep that motivation!
People have always told me to go off of how you feel rather than the number on the scale. I find it hard, but I am trying to apply that in my journey now. Being a nurse and on your feet can definitly be used to your advantage. I sit all day and have to set a reminder of when to take a break and walk away from the computer. I am hoping to be able to achieve my 10k steps per day.
I would say my biggest hurdle is preparing meals and making better choices when I reach for anything to eat. I think 5lbs in a month is a reasonable goal and I will definitley check on you to see how you are progressing.

Hi! I am also new to fitbit. I am pretty excited about starting this new journey! I have about 100lbs that I am looking to lose. My exercise has been little to nothing until now and I am really looking forward to the challenges on here and making new friends, please feel free to add me as a friend.
Some things that are helping with my calorie intake right now are:
Making prepacked snacks. I use ziplock baggies and measure out different types of snacks such as chex mix, pretzels, licorice, nuts ect.
With a permenant marker, I write on the outside of the baggie, what is in it, the serving size (1/4 cup, 1 cup ect.) and how many calories it is.
Example: Chex mix 1/2 cup 120 calories
I then put all the baggies into a big plastic container on the kitchen counter and when I am hungry and need a quick snack I just grab a baggie and go. All my baggies contain less that 150 calories per bag 🙂
I also Make up a large bowl of half lettuce and half coleslaw mix (I buy this in a bag and it is a mixture of cabbage, carrots, red cabbage ect. ) and keep it in my fridge and when I am super hungry and dont want to cook anything then I make me up a quick salad 🙂

I've got about 100lbs to lose myself to get to my goal weight, but I've got 10lbs left to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, so that's my short term goal. After that I'm tackling the 35lbs of "relationship weight" that I gained after meeting my husband, and after that my sights are set on my ultimate goal weight. I'm down 25lbs since February, but I gained 3lbs back with some poor eating choices lately, so I'm back to using MFP to help me stay in control of my calorie intake.
The #1 thing I've done to help drop this weight so far is meal planning. It sounds like you're already comging to the conclusion that meal planning is great though 😉 My best tip is to set aside 2 hours a week to big batch and freeze healthy snacks. Pinterest is a great place to find recipes that you can freeze. At any given time I've got whole wheat muffins, or quinoa cheddar bites, or some other filling but wholesome snack in my freezer ready to thaw or reheat and it makes eating clean so much easier!
@GetMovin1978 I love the idea of pre-portioning bags and writing the calories on the outside! I'm definitely going to have to use your idea 🙂

Hi KandyKorn.
I'm trying to lose 70 pounds. I started Weight Watchers in January. So with the help of WW and the motiviation I get from using my Fitbit Surge, I've lost 22 pounds so far. My tip to get exercise in is that I do as much as I can at work because once I get home, forget it. I walk at lunch for 30 minutes, walk up the stairs during my morning break, and lift 5 lb dumbbells at my desk during my afternoon break. I also meal prep on the weekends.

Hi Kiki78, that's wonderful that you have found a reason to get healthy. Having that emotional support at home really helps as well. Maybe we can encourage one another to keep moving and get to where we want to be and feel good about ourselves.

Hi Archu!
Great Goals! I see you are using MFP (as do many others on here it seems). What are the advantages of using it in addition to fitbit app? What do you like about it? I've used it in the past and liked it but it's been a couple of years. Right now I'm just using the fitbit but I'm always looking to see if something else will work for me. Love to be friends just friend request me if you want.

Hi KiKi! it's great that you are finding the support you need to be ready for a change. I understand about the motivation. I'm hoping we can form a little group and help motivate each other because it's hard for anyone to keep it going without help. Friend request me if you are interested in challenging each other and supporting each other.

Hello Goingsome! I think you are on to something with breaking your big goal into a smaller one. When I think of 75lbs it's enormous but right now I'm really trying to focus on losing at least 5lbs in the next month. If you are interested please friend request me and we can keep each other focused on the small goals and making progress on the big one.

That's a good strategy GetMovin! I seem to do ok througout the day but dinner is when I strart to really struggle. I'm a total foodie and love enjoying great cuisine with my husband. We are cooking at home more and including more fruits and veggies though so it's just a matter of stepping up our efforts more. I think your portioning strategy will work great for planning lunches/snacks for when I work next week and keep me out of the vending machines.

Superstephsteph, hi! great job on the meal planning! I'd like to set aside time to prep and freeze meals ahead for my work weeks to keep us away from fast food dinners. I'm not sure I'm going to get around to it this weekend but if not I'm trying to get a plan together to deal with "last minute, after work, I'm exhausted" kind of dinners. I know Rotesserie chicken with salad and steamed veggies is always a quick option.
