Ready to lose 75lbs, Does anyone else want to join me?

I'm new to fitbit. I've been using it a few weeks now and I'm finally using the membership to my local rec center I've had for almost 2 years! I'm a busy mom and nurse but I've recently reduced my work hours and I'm determined to somehow finally make time to take care of myself between work, chauffering kids, going to the kids activities and housework. I have 75lbs to lose and I've been overweight since my first pregnancy 15 years ago. I've started going to Zumba and walking but I'm still struggling with my diet. I've made improvements but have a long way to go. I'd love to find support and people to challenge me and help me on my journey to fitness. Anyone else out there who would like to lose about 75lbs in the next year?

Krystyne, that is great! That sounds like a great plan for you. I can't really work out any more on my work days (I need to sit down if I'm able to get a lunch) but I'm trying to focus my off days and all of my homemaking/mothering duties around getting active. I do know that I have to get it done before dinner or it's just not going to happen though.

KiKi,

Me too! I really believe that I am going to make a change for the better and finally lose the weight and get healthy. I love my fitbit. It's really helping me to stay focused on my fitness and not just on the diet portion of losing weight. How did you do today? I had a "cheat" day today. It was pretty much planned but I didn't get to be as active as I'd planned either. Calories were way over because I had a celebration dinner with my Son to cap off his birthday celebrations. I didn't do the exercising I'd planned though because of my daughter being sick this morning and waking me up early. The whole day go thrown off and before I knew it I had to help with one of the kids sports team fundraisers and time to workout was gone. I got less than half of my goal steps. The good thing is though that I don't feel overly guilty or defeated I just know that tomorrow I'm going to work harder to hit and even surpass my goals.

Hey KandyKorn,

I understand how easily a day can get thrown off. My day started off good, I had a healthy lunch and a healthyish lunch but by mid afternoon my head was hurting. I had a doctor's appointment that I sat in the exam room for an hour before the doctor actually saw me and since he isn't sure what's going on with me, I have to get blood work done. I was upset and feeling down so I went to Taco Bell for dinner. I know it was a bad decision but there is no reason to beat myself up about it, I'm going to start fresh tomorrow and try not to think about the things I can't control. Tomorrow is a new day! 🙂

Myfitnesspal helps me keep track of food. Guess it has a large database . Being Indian I'm unable to find calorie/nutritional information for our food in other databases. Atleast not as much. Fitbit takes care of exercise and what I burn.

That's right today we begin again! I'm going to try for as many steps/calories burned as I can today. I probably won't take any fitness classes as I'm home waiting for my new washing machine to arrive but we'll see how the day unfolds. I plan to do some housecleaning and that burns calories too. I'm eating out again with my family tonight so I'm going to check out the menus online today and find something that a good fit with my nutrition goals.

That is a great idea @GetMovin1978! I also second @Archu's tip on using MyFitnessPal for calorie tracking, it's food database is pretty great. Cat Happy

That makes sense Archu. I seem to find myself looking up the calorie content on google a lot and manually adding it. I don't worry too much about exact counts though, I tend to overestimate the calorie content because I don't want to "cheat".

I would love to join! I am trying to get closer to my "ideal" weight for my height and that is about 70 pounds! I would love to loose it in a year, but I know that with working 3rd shift, first time mom, and just crazy life it will be hard. I need the motivation and support of someone who knows what I will be going through (especially since my husband is the size of a toothpick lol). I also need help with meal planning and dinners that are not going to cost an arm and a leg, but will still be healthy and yummy!

Hi ElizabethK and Lovingit!

I'm glad you both responded!

Sounds like you have your plate full Elizabeth. I'm not the best at meal planning but I'm sure there is someone on this thread that is better at it and can give us some pointers. I do try and plan meals around what's on sale that week (my favorite store does BOGOs) and filling in with ingredents from my pantry that I've stocked up on when on sale. Of course seasonal veggies and fruits can save money. If you have the time to prep them yourself you can save even more over precut kinds. My favorite 'go to' cookbook right now is the Diet Crockpot Cookbook. It has lots of simple crockpot recipes with reasonable calorie counts that I can get everyone in my house to eat (if I'm lucky).

I started about a year ago but not really seriously until January 2015.  I had about 100lbs to lose and I am down 30.  I still want to lose at least 75 and then reevaluate my goals.  A few recommendations I have that have worked for me is focus on real food.  I eat very little processed and it has reduced my sugar cravings tremendously.   There are several documentaries on Netflix that gave me some helpful information and education.  Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Ted Talks (Food related ones), Forks over knives, Food INC, Hungry for change  I would highly recommend researching these.  They are very powerful and helped me motivate myself to be grossed out about fast food.  That was hard becuase unfortunately, it tastes so good.  I no longer crave that either.

I feel you on failing to plan. I struggle with meal prep as well and I have a desk job. Keep moving no matter what. Maybe we can both take time once a week to plan some tasty meals!

I've been doing well with my step goals and working out reguarly doing Zumba and such when I can. I'm still struggling with eating too many calories most days. I've lost 7lbs from my highest weight in the past month but haven't seen a weight loss this week. I'm doing better at meal planning, cooking at home, and avoiding the rampant temptations and take out at work but lots of special occasions and cheat days are getting in my way. Family reunions, weekend getaways, birthdays, mother's day...In all fairness to myself this time of year is filled with these occasions for me but I have to get back on track now.

How is everyone else coming along so far? What have been your triumphs and challenges this week? month?

Hi KandyKorn , I am about to run out of the door but that sounds like a really busy time for you .

The one thing I would say is I bet this time last year this would have been a week that you would have out on a few pounds but because you are doing all the exercise then you have maintained which is a lot better .

Keep it up ! Next week you will have a good loss I reckon .
